PETITION TO THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY FOR URGENT PARLIAMENTARY ACTION ON FEMICIDE AND GENDER-BASED KILLINGS

We, the undersigned citizens of Cameroon, respectfully petition the National Assembly to urgently examine the growing public concern surrounding killings and severe violence against women and girls in Cameroon.

We recognize the constitutional and parliamentary responsibility of the National Assembly to legislate and exercise oversight of government action. We therefore request that this matter be treated as a matter of public interest and brought before the competent parliamentary structures.

We ask the National Assembly to receive, examine and transmit this petition through the proper parliamentary procedure; to consider hearings or consultations with relevant ministries, law-enforcement institutions, legal practitioners, civil-society organizations and survivors' representatives; and to use its oversight and legislative functions to strengthen prevention, protection, investigation, prosecution and accountability.

OUR REQUESTS

1. Establish or strengthen a coordinated national mechanism for documenting, investigating and responding to gender-based killings of women and girls.

2. Publish regular, disaggregated national statistics on killings and serious violence against women and girls, including the status of investigations and prosecutions.

3. Strengthen rapid protection and referral mechanisms for women facing credible threats of violence, including domestic and intimate-partner violence.

4. Ensure prompt, impartial and effective investigation and prosecution of alleged perpetrators, with appropriate support and protection for victims, survivors and witnesses.

5. Expand access to emergency shelters, psychosocial support, legal assistance and other survivor-centred services.

6. Implement and adequately resource the National Gender Policy 2022–2030 and existing government measures addressing violence against women, with measurable targets and public reporting.

7. Develop a national prevention and public-awareness programme addressing violence against women, harmful norms, early warning signs and community intervention.

8. Provide Parliament and the public with a periodic progress report on measures taken and results achieved.

PETITION TO THE HEAD OF GOVERNMENT FOR A NATIONAL EMERGENCY RESPONSE TO FEMICIDE AND GENDER-BASED KILLINGS

We respectfully call upon the Head of Government to coordinate an urgent, cross-ministerial national response to killings and serious violence against women and girls.

MINPROFF's mandate expressly includes the promotion and protection of women's rights and measures addressing violence against women. The Government also has existing gender-policy and gender-based-violence frameworks. We therefore ask for stronger implementation, coordination, resourcing and public accountability rather than isolated interventions.

We request that the Prime Minister's Office designate responsible institutions, establish measurable deadlines, and require periodic reporting on prevention, protection, investigation, prosecution, survivor support and public awareness.

We acknowledge MINPROFF's published National Gender Policy 2022–2030 and its situational analysis on gender-based violence. We ask the Ministry to use these policy and evidence foundations to lead a stronger, measurable national response focused on prevention, early intervention, protection and survivor support.

We further request that MINPROFF convene relevant government and civil-society stakeholders and publish a clear action framework with targets, responsibilities, timelines and indicators for reducing lethal and severe violence against women and girls.

PETITION FOR STRONGER LOCAL PREVENTION, PROTECTION AND EARLY-RESPONSE MEASURES FOR WOMEN AT RISK

We respectfully request stronger territorial coordination to prevent violence against women and to ensure that credible threats receive timely attention at local level.

We ask for strengthened coordination among administrative authorities, police, gendarmerie, health services, social services, local authorities and women's protection structures, particularly where repeated threats, domestic violence or other warning signs indicate an elevated risk.

We further request public-awareness and community-response measures that help women access protection before violence becomes lethal.

This register is based on reports published on 25–27 August 2026. It distinguishes reported femicide cases from cases whose gender motive remains unclear. Allegations are not presented as judicially established facts.

IMPORTANT: The register contains 15 entries because Cameroon Tribune separately identifies Ze Ebogo Lydie, while Observer237's compilation contains 14 women between 6 and 26 August. Several victims remain unnamed in published reporting. Before public publication, retain the original articles/screenshots and, where possible, obtain a second independent source or official confirmation.
