BURNING MAN BOOK RELEASE & STORYTELLING

What’s exciting about watching an author read? No much. To remedy the standard book release event, Innovative Burning Man photographer Julian Cash teams up with storytelling maven Dixie De La Tour to provide audience interaction & entertainment, share the stories & images of Burning Man.

(August 2011) This event will be on Saturday, August 13 at the Jellyfish Gallery at 1286 Folsom St. in San Francisco, in promotion of the new long awaited book by Julian Cash. Unlike the event in the desert, this event is not yet sold out.

Hailed as a “Magician” by Larry Harvey, Cash’s book The People of Burning Man, has been styled “World Class” by Stewart Brand, “Delicious and Nutritious” by Rob Brezny,“ Fantastic” by Annie Sprinkle, and “A Burning Man Bible” by Halcyon Styne.

Event Impresario Dixie De La Tour’s Bawdy Storytelling events attract a large monthly audience in San Francisco, Oakland and Los Angeles and have been described as “The Moth for Pervs” by LA Weekly. De La Tour’s events are part of a nationwide resurgence in personal narrative storytelling as theatre.

Forgoing the traditional book reading, they are combining a magical series of six 10-minute anecdotes of Burning Man shenanigans from veteran and iconic Burners, with a gallery show of stunning images from Julian’s onsite, documenting the incredible people who make a home in Black Rock City.

Burning Man is a place where stories create themselves. Anybody who has gone to Burning Man has had at least one experience that left them shaken, frightened, and delighted. The tales being told at this event cover a range of subjects and emotions. Cash and De La Tour have joined forces to make for the most interesting and surprising selection of renditions, many told by people represented in the book.

This “underground classic” that was a decade in the making will, for the first time ever, be offered for sale to the public. Meet the debonair photographer/author, hear the stories, walk among the people from the pages, peruse the images lining the walls of the gallery, and take home a signed copy (by the author & by the storytellers, if you like) as your memento of this exciting evening of creativity and delight.

The People of Burning Man book features new and veteran “Burners”, local and national celebrities such as Burning Man Founder Larry Harvey, Cacophony’s Michael Mykel aka “Danger Ranger, “Father of the Modern Primitive Movement” Fakir Musafar, Surrealist $teven Ra$pa, Temple Creator David Best, death-defying showman Dr. Megavolt, and Jerri Manthey, star of Survivor and The Surreal Life.
