Submitting a SafeAssignment

SafeAssignment is a plagiarism detection tool that instructors may use to detect unoriginal content in submitted papers or to discuss plagiarism and the importance of proper attribution of any borrowed content with their class.

When you are required to submit papers through SafeAssignment, follow these instructions:

  1. Login to and enter your course.

  1. Locate the assignment posted by your instructor (e.g. Sample Assignment 1).

  1. Click >> View/Complete to proceed to the upload page.

  1. You might want to enter comments.

  1. Browse for and attach a file from your computer; attach only files in .doc/ .docx / .odt/ .txt / .rtf / .html / .pdf formats.

  1. To finish and send your work to the instructor, click Submit. At this point, you will see a notification of successful submission.

  1. To quit without saving changes, click Cancel.

Using SafeAssign and certain web browser settings

If you go to submit your paper into SafeAssign and get the following error even though you are logged in to Blackboard "Sorry, we do not think you are logged in to SafeAssign. Your session may have timed out. If you have received this message in error, please contact your system administrator. " this means that the security/privacy settings on your web browser are set up to not allow 3rd party cookies.  

You'll need to change this setting to allow 3rd party cookies by following these steps:

For Internet Explorer:

  1. Click on Tools > Internet Options > Privacy
  2. Change the setting to "Low"

For Firefox:

  1. Click on Tools > Options > Privacy
  2. Select "Accept cookies from sites"
  3. Select "Accept third-party cookies"
  4. Change "Keep until" to "they expire"

For Safari:

  1. Click on Safari > Preferences > Security
  2. Change "Accept cookies" setting it "Always"

For Chrome:

  1. Click the Chrome menu icon
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Near the bottom of the page, click Show advanced settings.
  4. In the "Privacy" section, click Content settings.
  5. Enable or disable cookies:
  1. To enable cookies, select Allow local data to be set (recommended).
  2. To disable cookies, select Block sites from setting any data.
  1. Click Done to save.
