Cooperative Learning Project: A Children’s Story

Directions: For this assignment your group will be asked to create a short children’s book that tells the story of the relationship between your assigned country and the United States. You have already researched the content individually, now you and your group must work together to come up with a consensus on what the relationship is like and compile your findings into a story that could be easily understood by a child without losing the important content. For this assignment, each person in the group will be assigned a “role”. The roles are as follows: the author, the artist, the editor, and the contributor. After reviewing each roles responsibility, write the student's name next to the assigned role a get started. You will have time in class to work on this project and the teacher will provide construction paper, glue, colored pencils, markers, scissors, and other materials necessary to complete the book. Should you need any other materials that the teacher does not provide, feel free to bring them to class.

The story must include the following:

  1. The relationship between your assigned country and the United States before the Vietnam War
  2. A recollection of the Vietnam War and your country's involvement
  3. The relationship between the two countries after the Vietnam War
  4. How and why the relationship changed
  5. Works Cited

Role Responsibilities

The Author

This student will be responsible for writing the words of the story into your physical book. To be clear: This students is not to create the story on their own. The group will work together to create the story and the author is only responsible for physically writing/typing it in the book. The author should also proof read the story prior to putting it in the physical book.

The Artist

This students will be responsible for ensure that there are relevant, neat, and legible images on each page of the storybook. The artist will work with the group to determine what images should be included and will then be responsible putting them in the physical book. To be clear: This student cannot simply print images offline, they must be hand drawn, so you might want to have some artistic ability.

The Editor

This student will be responsible for pre-writing and proof reading the story prior to it being written/typed into the physical book. To be clear: This students is not to create the story on their own. The group will work together to create the story and the editor is only responsible for ensuring that the story makes sense and does not have grammatical errors.

The Contributor

This student is responsible for collecting all sources used to create the story and creating a works cited that will be included at the end of the physical book. To be clear: This students is not to do all of the research for the book on their own. They will work with the group to find reliable sources that will aid in writing the story.
