Police Sexual Misconduct
- In 32 states there is no law specifically stating that it is illegal for police officers or sheriff’s deputies in the field to have sex with someone in their custody. It is not legal to rape someone in custody, but it is not illegal for on-duty officers to have sex with detainees. The pressing issue is that armed law enforcement officers can evade sexual assault charges by claiming that such an encounter — from groping to intercourse — was consensual. There is no such thing as ‘consensual sex’ when someone is in police custody. Consent can be the difference between a rape conviction and an acquittal at trial, and experts say that allowing police to have consensual sex with those in their custody — an inherently off-balance relationship — makes it nearly impossible to determine whether someone consented or instead went along with the sexual contact out of fear or because they believed it was their only option.

End Qualified Immunity
- Qualified Immunity explained: That doctrine of Qualified Immunity is a judge-made policy and has become one of the chief ways in which law enforcement avoids accountability for misconduct and even proven constitutional violations; it protects them from being sued in their personal capacity/ being held personally liable for excessive use of force/ brutality. Ordinary people—whether they’re doctors, lawyers, or construction workers—are expected to follow the law. If they violate someone else’s legal rights, they can be sued and required to pay for the injuries they’ve caused. Under the doctrine of qualified immunity, public officials are held to a much lower standard. They can be held accountable only insofar as they violate rights that are “clearly established” in light of existing case law. This standard shields law enforcement in particular from innumerable constitutional violations each year.
- ‘SIGN XITZCS’ to 50409 to demand the US Congress support the ‘Ending Qualified Immunity Act’
- ‘SIGN SEUDKP’ to 50409 to demand the US Senate support the ‘Ending Qualified Immunity Act’
- Call and email your Members of Congress and demand that they co-sign/support the motion to end QI:
