Dear Prosecutor Erika Oliphant,

My name is (NAME) and I am a resident of (TOWN, STATE) I am emailing today to demand accountability in the attempted lynching of Vauhxx Rush Booker.

On July 4, 2020, Booker, a Black man, was attacked by five white men at Lake Monroe. They pounded on his head, ripped out his hair, jumped on his neck, told him they were, "going to break his arms", and yelled countless racial slurs at him and his friends. And yet, the DNR refused to arrest any of these individuals, even though there is filmed footage of the event and multiple eye-witnesses. The DNR relayed that the Prosecutor's office, your office, said there was no immediate need to arrest anyone, and a report would be filed.

I am calling for the prosecution of these five individuals to the fullest extent of the law and that you will not rest until that happens. This violence was an act of hatred and white supremacy, and you must act now to end this racist terror.

Booker's life matters and I want justice for him.

Mrs. Oliphant,

I am emailing your office in regards to an incident I learned about through a social media post. After watching the videos of what happened to Mr. Vauhxx Booker, and reading his account of nearly being lynched by a mob of angry, drunk white men on private property, I am stunned that your office has yet to make arrests of the perpetrators. Their faces are clear in the video, and as DNR officers responded to the location I am certain you have a report with the names of those involved in this heinous attack. This situation is reminiscnient to me of a certain book, as an educated woman I am sure you have heard of it...it’s entitled “A Time to Kill” by John Grisham. As I’m sure you’re aware, race relations in the United States are at a very critical moment in our history. A moment where we can choose to accept our faults, and choose to learn, listen, grow, and seek true justice, or we can be silent and compliant with racism and acts of racially provoked violence. Your office has more than enough testimonial, physical, and video evidence to indite Mr. Bookers’ attackers. I implore you to see reason and take action. Do not be compliant with racism.

What happened to Vauhxx R. Booker on Saturday (July 4) on public land was a blatant hate crime. He was jumped by two men, dragged on the ground, pinned to a tree, and had his head pounded by five men who told the group of onlookers that they were going to "break his arms," while one asked his friends to "get a noose." They told the group of white onlookers who were witnessing the entire event to "leave the boy" and that everyone else could go. Due to this incident, Vauhxx suffered a concussion, abrasions, bruising, and ripped out hair patches.

What will you be doing to bring justice to these individuals? With multiple witnesses available to provide statements and multiple video recordings showing the hate crime this weekend, why hasn't your office taken any action?

We demand that you act swiftly to bring all those involved in this hate crime, including the perpetrators Jerry Cox, Sean Purdy, and Ian James Cherco, to justice.
