Welcome to our Newest Major: Ralph Carter - Geol (and Geomatics IC). We are excited to have you join our department! Please do not hesitate to let us know how we can best support you with your goals. (Geol = Geology major, AEG = Applied Environmental Geosciences major, EST = Earth Science Teaching major)
You Are Invited to SGE Meeting This Monday: Sigma Gamma Epsilon (SGE) is the Department of Geosciences' Honor Society. All geosciences majors are invited to attend to learn more about the group and what activities are being planned for this academic year. The next meeting is this Monday, September 29th at 10:30am in the Majors' Room (SL332). Please contact SGE President, Michael Hess, or SGE Vice President, Michael Garlick, with any questions. Also, see the attached flyer for more information.
Summer Internships: Freeport-McMoran, a global corporation focused on natural resource exploration, extraction, and processing, has postings for a number of Geology Internships and Environmental Internships for summer 2015.
Earth Science Week Volunteers Needed: Since October 1998, the American Geosciences Institute (AGI) has organized this national and international event to help the public gain a better understanding and appreciation for the Earth Sciences and to encourage stewardship of the Earth. This year's Earth Science Week (October 12-18) will celebrate the theme "Earth's Connected Systems". The Utah Geological Survey (UGS) is hosting a Utah celebration October 6-9 with activities for elementary students at the Utah Core Research Center in Salt Lake City. Our chapter of Sigma Gamma Epsilon is soliciting volunteers to travel to SLC to help facilitate fun activities, such as gold panning, stream table, rock and mineral properties, and fossils/paleontology. Our Earth Science Teaching majors are especially encouraged to volunteer. A sign-up sheet for specific times will be posted in the Majors' Room next week. Please contact Michael Hess, SGE President, for more information. Details on some of these activities are attached.
WSU Geoscience Students Invade Wyoming: Dr. Adolph Yonkee and 14 students in his Structural Geology (GEO 3060) and Field Methods (GEO 4060) classes left this morning for a 3-day field trip to map folded and faulted strata in the Kemmerer, WY, area. We look forward to publishing photos from this trip in future newsletters and we wish them fair weather and safe travels.
Resources for WSU Geosciences Students: We work hard to keep our department website updated with the latest information and resources for our students. Check out the Student Resources page for great research and internship opportunities, job postings, newsletter archives, scholarship information and so much more!
Website of the Week: Weber Pathways - http://www.weberpathways.org/ (Recommended by Marianne Bischoff). Send us your favorite earth-related websites and we will share them with our community.

Have a great weekend!
