  1. Introduce the lesson with “Ollie the Octopus.”
  2. Review letters  K k, L l, M m, N n, and O o.
  3. Have each child choose a fish with a an upper-case letter. Then match it to the baby fish with the lower-case.
  4. Ask: What letter is that? What sound does it makes? Can you find the baby?
  5. Continue to practice with other letters.

  2. Ask:  What do you see in the picture? Do you know what a shoemaker does?
  3. Activate prior knowledge by asking: What are they wearing on their feet?
  4. Discuss what shoes are made of.
  5. Discuss elves by asking the the following questions: Do you know what elves are?
  6. Help the children set a purpose for listening and answer: How did the elves help the shoemaker and his wife?
  7. Play the story.
  8. Model using pictures to understand vocabulary, such as shoemaker, customers, and elves.
  9. Use the following questions to lead discussion: What do you know about the shoemaker and his wife? What did the elves make for the shoemaker and his wife?
