Have a drill on multiplication facts using activity sheets, window cards or flash cards.  Encourage speed and accuracy.

Have a review on finding the volume of a rectangular prism.

Give exercises to the pupils.

2. Establishing a purpose for the lesson

Have a review on finding the volume using non-standard and standards units.

Show different rectangular prisms with different units of measure (cm and m)

3. Presenting examples/ instances of the new lesson.

Present the situation to the class on TG p. 305.

Read and analyze the problem.

Present the problem on Explore and Discover on LM p. 233-234.

Take note of the units of measure used.

Discuss the problem with the pupils by answering the questions on LM p. 305.

Solve the problem by counting the rows, layers, and columns of the rectangular prism taking note of the units of measure used.

Divide the class into 6 groups. Distribute the materials to each group.    Ask them to work together and find the volume using the rows, columns and layers.

Ask them to find other ways in finding the volume.

Divide the pupils into 4 groups. Ask each group to work on the items on Get Moving on LM p. 235.

Have them use the formula in finding the volume of the rectangular prism.

Have each group discuss their work.

Discuss the different solutions in finding the volume of the rectangular prisms.

Give the formula in finding the volume of the rectangular prism.

Have the pupils work on Keep Moving on LM p. 235-236.

Check on the pupils’ answers.

Accept various answers from the pupils.
