Parade Rules

We encourage you to be creative in decorating your parade entry. All persons participating in the parade must be appropriately attired. Entries are encouraged to incorporate the theme of the parade into their entry.

For safety reasons, throwing of candy, balloons, treats or any other items to the crowd by parade participants is not allowed. Participants walking along the street may hand candies, etc. directly to spectators. All handouts that are written material must be approved by the Parade Committee. A sample of each handout should be attached to the parade application form.

No livestock, equestrians, domestic animals, birds or reptiles are acceptable as entries or as parts of entries without prior written approval of the Parade Committee. Certificate of insurance is required for approved entries.

Alcoholic beverages and other controlled substances are forbidden on any float, in any vehicle or on the person of any participant. Participants who consume alcohol prior to parade start are not permitted to enter the line of march and people who use alcohol or other controlled substances during the parade will be removed.

Smoking is not permitted on the parade route.

Parade participants must maintain forward motion during the parade in a safe and cautious manner. There shall be no quick-starts, stops or peeling rubber. Parade spacing between entries must be maintained as directed by parade monitors (approximately 2 – 3 car lengths). Loud music or blowing of horns should not intrude on another participant’s presentation space. Participants must proceed past end of parade route before stopping or unloading.

The parade is a non-political event. Use of any political signs, social or political material or improper use of the

American Flag is not permitted.

The Parade announcers reserve the right to edit the copy due to time constraints during the parade.

There is absolutely no stopping to perform in front of the announcers.

The Parade Committee reserves the right to refuse entry to any group or individual whose entry is deemed to be a safety hazard.


Events and Activities Sponsored by the City of Carpinteria

Event: Carpinteria Parade          Date: December 12, 2015

1. Liability Waiver. In entering this event, I agree to waive, release, indemnify and hold harmless the City of Carpinteria (“City”), its officers, agents and employees, volunteers, parade officials and any event co-sponsors from any and all liability for harm, accidents, personal injury or property damage which may be suffered by our participants (myself, my guests, invitees and/or employees) regardless of the nature or cause of the damage or injury, arising out of, or in any way connected with, the participation in the activity.

2. Photo release. In consideration for my participation in this event, I hereby consent to allow my picture or likeness to appear in publications, marketing or promotional advertisements and/or media or television coverage of this event in any manner incidental to my participation in this event and without compensation to me.

3. Permission for Public Performances of copyrighted material. As an exhibitor in this event, I am solely responsible for obtaining all necessary licenses and permits to use music, photographs or any other copyrighted material. I understand that it may be illegal to play, broadcast or have performed any music, photographs or any other copyrighted material, and it is my responsibility to obtain the appropriate licenses and permits to use any such copyrighted material or ensure that I do not need such a license or permit.

I shall remain liable for and shall indemnify and hold harmless the City, its officers, agents and employees, volunteers, parade officials and any event co-sponsors from and against any and all claims, losses, damages, injuries, awards, fines, government charges, and liability of any kind – together with all costs, expenses and reasonable attorneys’ fees incurred in connection with my display or presence at the above named event arising from or out of any violation or infringement (or claimed violation or infringement) by myself, my agents or employees, of any, copyright, trademark infringement, character right, right to publicity or similar or related claims.

4. Responsible entry signature. I have read the guidelines set forth by the parade officials and understand the conditions of the Liability Waiver. It is understood that the above waiver of liability applies to each individual in our entry. It is my responsibility to obtain a signed waiver of liability from every individual who becomes part of this entry. In recognition thereof, as the responsible party for the entry, I am signing on behalf of every individual who becomes a part of this entry.
