From the Headmaster of the Premonstratensian Secondary School in Gödöllő

Gödöllő, 14th September 1931

Dear Sir,

I am writing at the request of Dr Menyhért Takács, Provost of Jászó,[1] in order to put before you a humble request. In the prelates’ quarters of the new Premonstratensian house in Gödöllő there is a grand salon in which the Order would like to hang a copy of the beautiful portrait of our great benefactor, the Regent Miklós Horthy [5684], which was painted by you and which can now be seen in the Museum of Fine Arts.

Since, according to the Director General of the museum, no copy can be made without permission, I would like humbly to ask, on behalf of the entire Order, if you would allow the distinguished painter Béla Kontuly de Nemessány,[2] who is currently working on the Szeged University frescoes, to make a copy of the portrait.

With thanks in advance for your kind acquiescence, on behalf of the entire Order,

I remain,

Your devoted admirer,

Patrik Stuhlmann

Rector, Headmaster

Takács founded a Premonstatensian Monastery in Gödöllo for canons from Kassa (Košice, Slovakia), Nagyvárad (Oradea, Romania) and Rozsnyó (Rožńava, Slovakia), after those towns, including his own Jászó (Jasov, Slovakia), ceased to be part of Hungary following the Treaty of Trianon.

[2] Béla Kontuly (1904–1983), Hungarian artist. Kontuly won a scholarship to the Hungarian Academy in Rome, and, over the course of his career, received many commissions from the Catholic Church. He worked in a colourful, Art Deco style.
