CLUB COMPETITION RULES

1. TROPHIES

All Trophies are the property of the Club.  Men's and Ladies Trophies must be returned to the Competition Secretary in a good and clean condition by Finals Day.

2. CLUB MATCHES

All matches and competitions played shall be in accordance with the Bowls England “Laws of the Sport of Bowls”.

The selection for the Club Matches shall be by the Captain and Vice Captain of the appropriate section. A list for players shall be placed on the notice board at least 14 days prior to the match. If possible the selected teams to be posted 7 days prior to the match.

Players selected must sign against their name or they may be replaced by a reserve at the discretion of the Captain of the day.

The appointed Captain of the Day shall have sole charge of the Club Team in any matches and shall deal with any disputes which may arise during the match.

3. DISPUTES

Disputes or infringements of these Laws or Club Competition Rules must be reported to the Competition Secretary whose decision will be made known to all parties concerned within 48 hours (unless further referred to a qualified umpire) and will be final.

4. COMPETITION MATCH DATES

In all competitions the first named is the challenger and must offer the opponent 3 dates (2 of which must be at least 72 hours in advance) in writing or verbally.  Whereupon one date must be accepted or the game forfeited.

If after the 14th day before the closing date for that round the challenger has not given the 3 dates, then the second named player becomes the Challenger and must give the first named player 3 dates (2 of which must be at least 72 hours in advance). Failure to perform the above will result in disqualification of both parties. All games must be played by the closing date for each round except in the case of extenuating circumstances (Illness/Bereavement but not holidays), when the Competition Secretary with the agreement of the Section Captain may allow an extension of the playing date by up to 7 days.

5. SUBSTITUTES AND BYES

Players marked on the scorecard for the first round played are deemed to be THE TEAM.

SINGLES COMPETITIONS

If a player withdraws from any round prior to the finals then their next opponent will receive a bye. If a player withdraws from the final, then the player they beat in the semi- final will be reinstated and play the final.

PAIRS, TRIPLES, FOURS.

If a player withdraws from any round the Section Competition Secretary will raise a list of members, who are not in the competition and are willing to play. A draw will be made for the substitute by the Section Captain or the Club President whose decision is final.

A substitute is allowed to skip if his team requests If a player should suffer an injury or sickness where the period of incapacity cannot be determined, the Competition Secretary, to prevent delays, reserves the right to remove said player from the competition and replace with a substitute as the above rules allow.

6. WALKOVERS

A scorecard showing the names of the players and the competition must be completed and signed by the claimant before the closing date for that round.

7. ELIGIBILITY

Members will be only be permitted to enter Club Competitions providing that they have made themselves available for six Club Matches (except new members), or at the discretion of the Section Captain in exceptional circumstances.

8. MARKERS

Could any members who have taken a markers course, and would be prepared to mark club competitions during the season, please inform the competition secretary of your availability. Any member who has not taken a markers course but would like to attend one, please let a committee member know and arrangements can be made.

9. FINALS DAYS

All Club Competitions, except those to be played on Finals Days, shall be concluded 14 days before Finals Days. Ifany member is in 5 or more finals he/she must be prepared to play at least 1 on the day prior to the finals. Members unable to play on the designated dates (in the fixture book) should not enter competitions.

MEN'S HANDICAP COMPETITIONS

Handicaps will be based on the personal performance of each member in Club competitions (excluding mixed) over the previous seasons. ALL competitions, except for the mixed pairs, will count towards players handicaps.

LADIES COMPETITION RULES

Ladies Handicaps will be decided by the Ladies Competition Secretary and the Ladies Captain at the start of each season.

OVERTON MIXED TRIPLES RULES

1. All players must book in with the organizer or telephone the cashiers office BEFORE 9.45am for the Overton Mixed Triples.

2. The matches will be drawn for triples, but depending on numbers, pairs or rinks may be drawn at the discretion of the organizer of the day.

3. The Playing position in the team will be decided by the players in each team. All players are asked to try to play in all positions during the season.

4. Triples (3 bowls each) matches will play 18 ends, pairs (4 bowls each) or rinks (2 bowls each) will play 20 ends.

5. The number of shots scored by each team will be awarded to each player in that team for each round.

6. The best 8 scores for each player will count, those not completing the full 8 games will not be eligible to win any trophies.

7. Once a player has played 8 games they can continue and discard lowest scores until end of season.

8. The Monday MXT Winner will be the player with the highest average of their best 8 scores & the Overton MXT Winner will be the Male and Female player with the highest average of their best 8 scores.
