SUBJECT | REPORT ON PALESTINE! |
Dear (MEDIA OUTLET), I am appalled by your non-existent coverage on the events in Palestine. Last month, when the Human Rights Watch (HRW) released a 213-page report revealing that it finds Israel guilty of 'crimes against humanity of apartheid,’ you reported nothing. However, when Israelis are also affected by an event, you immediately report the news and if possible, unfairly twisting it against the indigenous Palestinians. As a major news and information source for Canadians, your outlet plays a major role in shaping public opinions. They, in turn, direct the policies of our leaders, which can ultimately aid in the liberation of oppressed communities around the world, such as Palestinians. As a result of your misinformation and censorship, you are largely responsible for the dehumanization of Palestinians and strong pro-Israeli apartheid sentiment among Canadian society. That you have diversified your staff in an attempt to pretend you care about marginalized communities, such as the Palestinian people, while ignoring the HRW report, that was covered by Al Jazeera, the BBC, CNN, The Guardian, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and other reputable news outlets, is the greatest insult to communities made vulnerable. In fact, your lack of coverage on Palestinians delegitimizes your entire organization. How can you possibly see yourself as a reputable news source when you cannot even provide basic and honest reporting on news that affects all Canadians? While your news outlet failed to report on last month’s major HRW report and to honestly cover the current attacks on Palestinians in Jerusalem, you were able to devote much resources to widely cover the horrific stampede that occurred at an ultraorthodox Israeli religious festival. Where is the honesty in your work? What happened to objective reporting? As a Canadian, someone who is directly impacted by the news that you spread, I also urge you to honestly report on Israeli ethnic cleansing and genocide in Sheikh Jarrah, Jerusalem, where Israeli military forces have invaded Palestinian homes, assaulted residents, including women, children, and elders, and arrested Palestinian youth for defending the homes of their families. In the last few days, a Palestinian was stabbed by an Israeli settler, multiple Palestinians have been murdered by Israeli Occupation Forces, worshipping Palestinians at the Al Aqsa mosque have been shot at, and homes continue to be invaded. I look forward to hearing from you and to seeing your response to the current events. Canadians and the international community are carefully watching Canada’s response to the events in Sheikh Jarrah. As you are likely already aware of, Al Jazeera has released a damning report on your silence to the events in Palestine: https://www.aljazeera.com/opinions/2021/5/6/canadas-blackout-of-israels-crimes-against-humanity Sincerely, (YOUR NAME) |
