  1. Ask the children what means of transportation they use to come to school.
  2. Ask: What makes a car, bus or truck move?
  3. Display the book ABCDrive!
  4. Turn the first four pages slowly, so children can look at the illustrations.
  5. Ask: What do you think this book is about? What is the same in each page?
  6. Point to the letter and word on each page.
  7. Ask: Can you find the (vehicle name, car part, or object) on this page?
  8. Stop at letter H. before you turn the page ask: What is the next letter? What do you think you will find on the page?
  9. Discuss book.

  1. Pair children.
  2. Distribute to each pair Photo Sorting Cards for Transportation.
  3. Help the children identify the photos.
  4. Help the children identify word and point to the first letter, and ask: Do you know this letter?
  5. Explain game.
  6. Place cards face down on table.
  7. Help the children take turns looking for matcher, turning over two cards at a time.  Making sure the child says the name of each vehicle.
  8. Read “The Little Engine that Could.”
  9. Ask: What kind of vehicle was the story about? What did he do? What happened to him? How was the shipment delivered to the the children who need the goods?
