VERBA RELEASE NOTES
One of the best things about cloud-based software – for both software developers and their clients – is the ability to make constant improvements to products. This document catalogs improvements made to Verba applications on a weekly basis. At the top, you’ll find our most recent updates; as you scroll down, you’ll see a brief history of what we’ve done. While not
every bug fix and new feature makes it in here, we hope these notes give both current and future clients some insight into our constant effort to improve their experience.
MARCH 3RD, 2020
COLLECT - CUSTOMIZABLE REVIEW & SUBMIT MESSAGE
Collect users now have the option to set an informational message that appears at the top of the “Review & Submit” page in the faculty interface. This note can include HTML links. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information!
CONNECT - IMPROVEMENTS TO CONNECT ITEMS & COURSES PAGE SEARCH
You can now successfully search for courses that include spaces and special characters on the Connect Items page in Connect. Special characters are also now supported on the Courses page.
CONNECT - CONNECT ITEMS & STUDENTS PAGE LOAD PERFORMANCE UPGRADES
Performance upgrades have been made to both the Connect Items and Students pages to help with load time. Item and student information now loads faster and more consistently.
COLLECT - COPY ADOPTION TERM DISPLAY BUG RESOLVED
We have resolved a bug that prevented terms with the same start date from properly being shown in the “Copy Adoption” feature of the Collect faculty interface. We will now properly display all terms regardless of duplicate term start dates.
COLLECT - PREVENT REVIEWERS FROM REVERTING APPROVED ADOPTIONS
We’ve removed the ability for Reviewer users in Collect to mark courses/sections as “not offered” after the adoption was Approved. This resolves an issue where a lower permission level user type (Reviewers) could make adjustments to adoptions that have already been approved.

CONNECT - PERFORMANCE UPGRADE TO CONNECT ITEMS PAGE
We’ve boosted Connect Items page load performance so section information on item cards populates faster and more consistently. We’ve also resolved a bug that occasionally caused the section load to hang up indefinitely.
COLLECT - NTR SUBMIT BUG FIX WHEN ESTIMATED ENROLLMENT MISSING
We’ve resolved a bug that prevented users from submitting adoptions (faculty interface) as “NTR” when estimated enrollment is required but not provided. Users will now be able to submit the adoption with a null estimated enrollment value given the estimated enrollment can be filled in by users downstream before it is pushed to the backoffice system.
CONNECT - NEW SECTION STATUS FILTER ON CONNECT ITEMS PAGE
Users can now filter to items based on whether or not they have active sections in a group, inactive sections in a group, and/or sections in the "non-participating" bucket. This new feature will make it easier for users to track the group setup part of the item creation process and easily keep tabs on items with sections that require their attention. For example: after a catalog is active, a user can use the "Sections Not Participating" filter to see items with sections not yet added to a group, which gets them one step closer to activating late add sections.
CONNECT - NEW WAYS TO SCOPE STUDENT CHARGES & REFUNDS REPORT
Users can now run the Student Charges & Refunds report three different ways:
Also, all report scope options are applied to the selected catalog. Previously the date range option would include charges generated within that time frame that belonged to other catalogs. This behavior has been changed.
CONNECT - NEW STUDENTS REPORT AVAILABLE IN CONNECT
A new report has been added to Connect! The new Students Report can be downloaded from the Reports page and will contain both a current snapshot of all students in the IA program as well as a full license based student history. In addition to being a complete list of student activity, the report will also include useful troubleshooting details like whether or not they have failed email deliveries and access code information.
This new report also provides valuable insights into dropped students who have historically been invisible in the Connect interface.
CONNECT - MORE CATALOG RESULTS ADDED TO THE MATCH & VERIFY MODAL
Initial search results in the “Matchh & Verify” modal on Connect Items will include only VitalSource assets available to the school. However, if users are looking for results more broadly available, they can now click the “Find More Results…” button to expand the scope of the initial search.
COMPARE - ECAMPUS.COM NOW AVAILABLE AS AN AFFILIATE RETAILER
eCampus offers can now be included in the Comparison shopping experience. To enable the new affiliate retailer, visit https://www.verbacompete.com/settings/retailers.
CONNECT - ITEM LINKS FROM ACCESS CODE DASHBOARD CHART
Users can now take a shortcut straight to the “View Item” page from the Access Codes tab on the Connect Dashboard. This shortcut will make it easier to gather item metadata needed in order to reach out to vendors for additional codes. You can find the new shortcuts on the “Availability by Access Code” chart on the Access Codes tab of the Dashboard - simply click on the bar in the chart that corresponds to the item you need more info about!
WEEK OF DEC 16TH
CONNECT - IN-APP INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEOS
We’ve added new instructional resources into the Connect app. These new bite sized “how to” videos can be found by hovering over the video icon in the top right corner of the interface. We’ll continue to add more, so stay tuned!
CONNECT - “TERM START DATE” ON SCHEDULES
Connect schedules now include “term start date” as a supported date field. The new date setting help provide more accurate control over student access to content and should be set to the date that the term begins for the corresponding schedule. It is also visible on the Dashboard page along with other schedule dates, making it easier to keep track of your schedule timelines.
CONNECT - FIND & ADD SECTIONS MODAL BUG FIXES
We’ve expanded the amount of results shown in the group level “Find & Add Sections” modal. We will now show up to 500 results vs. only 50.

COLLECT - ITEMS PAGE FILTER FOR NEWER/MORE AFFORDABLE ALTERNATIVES
A new filter has been added to the Collect Items page. You can now filter based on the availability of newer and/or more affordable alternatives!
CONNECT - EXPLORE & CREATE PAGE INTEGRATION ENHANCEMENTS
Verba Connect is now fully integrated with the VitalSource application “Booklist Manager”. In addition to providing a better foundation for future Connect features to be built upon, this new integration provides the following immediate benefits: better digital match results, distribution rights assignment automation, and more real time data updates to ensure finding the content you need is as easy as possible.
COLLECT - IMPROVED “MESSAGE USERS” MODAL
Collect Approver/Admin users now have a better way to get in touch with other collaborators, especially where Inclusive Access is concerned. They can do so from either the Course Management or Items page via the “Message Users” feature. By implementing this new feature on the Items page, users will now have a way to email users regarding an adopted material across courses/sections for the first time ever! We’ve also made a handful of enhancements to make messaging users easier and more flexible.

COLLECT - AFFORDABILITY PAGE REBRAND & NEW FEATURES
The “Affordability” page in Collect has a new name! Meet the all new “Items” page. In addition to a new name, we’ve also infused the new page with loads more features. You can now view and work Inclusive Access interest on items (across course/section groups!) and view digital match and IA pricing information in addition to the affordability tools and metrics you’ve come to know and love. CONNECT - ENROLLMENT INFORMATION ADDED TO GROUP SECTION DISPLAY
The number of enrolled students for a given section can now be viewed on the Connect Items section rows found within groups. This stat represents purely enrolled students found in the latest enrollment file and is not scoped by participation preference, continuation, or any other license based data.
COLLECT - INCLUSIVE ACCESS “ESTIMATED STUDENT PRICE” CUSTOMIZATION
Users can now customize the margin % used to calculate the “estimated student price” for IA materials throughout Verba Collect. Reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org for more information!

CONNECT - NEW ITEM GROUP SECTION INFO DISPLAY
We’ve added new information to the section rows in item groups for users with Launch implemented in their LMS. You can now view LMS course ID information right from within the item page itself. No more popping back and forth to the Courses page!
LAUNCH - COURSE & MATERIAL COUNT BUG RESOLVED
We’ve resolved an issue with the course and materials count in Launch that was occasionally causing the displayed counts to be inaccurate. Students will now see counts that correspond to the courses and materials detailed on the page.
CONNECT - EXPLORE & CREATE ITEM CARD REDESIGN
The item cards on the Explore & Create page received a small but impactful visual update that makes it easier to digest. Now, when searching through a list of VitalSource asset matches and their corresponding duration options and prices, it is easier than ever to see which actions to take. Overall we have muted various page elements to reduce the visual clutter.
COLLECT - NEBRASKA API SUPPORT FOR PULLING INSTRUCTOR EMAILS
Nebraska integrated Collect clients can now take advantage of an API update that enables the application to automatically create faculty users and assign them to courses (no more manual imports from files, yay!). The setting is toggled off by default, so if you’re interested in setting this up for your store, contact email@example.com for more info.
CONNECT - LMS COURSE MATCH INFORMATION ON ITEMS & SECTIONS REPORT
LMS course IDs associated with Connect sections can now be viewed on the Items & Sections report found on the Reports page in Connect.

CONNECT - LMS COURSE MATCH RECOMMENDATIONS AND AUTO-ACCEPT OPTION
We’ve been hard at work making it easier than ever to associate Connect based courses/sections (aka SIS sections) to their LMS counterparts. These matches allow us to ensure proper content delivery to students in Launch as well as provide an overall better user interface experience. In addition to providing a “top match,” you can also elect to auto-accept them effectively removing manual work associated with LMS course matches. CONNECT - PORTAL ACCESSIBILITY BOOST
We recognize that student’s ability to view their Inclusive Access materials and opt-out is important. That’s why the user interface received an update making it more accessible than ever!
CONNECT - NON-IA COURSES FILTER
With new new release of the Launch LMS student interface including POS comparison shopping capability, we’ve added a new Courses page filter to expose courses associated with non-IA materials so you can view, apply, and troubleshoot LMS course matches. The new filter is available on the Courses page in Connect for users with the Launch application enabled. Reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org to learn more!
CONNECT - LMS COURSE MATCH RECOMMENDATION FILTERS
For users who do not elect to implement the “auto-accept LMS course top matches,” we’ve built new Courses page filters that make it easy to playlist through sections with LMS course matches available. These filters will only be available to Connect users with the LMS student interface Launch enabled.
WEEK OF JULY 8TH
CONNECT - SCHEDULE NAME ADDED TO PDF INVOICES
We’ve added the schedule name to the information included on Connect generated PDF invoices. This information makes it easier than ever to keep track of which invoices tie to which term/schedule.
CONNECT - WELCOME EMAILS FOR CONTINUATION ONLY STUDENTS
Previously, we excluded students who only had continuation licenses from receiving automated Welcome Emails. We’ve added a new schedule setting that controls whether or not you’d like those students to receive Welcome Emails. When enabled, we will begin doing so!
CONNECT - ITEM MARGIN RETENTION WHEN CONVERTING TO VERIFIED PRICE
We’ve resolved a bug that caused the margin to revert to the default when manually created items are converted to “verified.” Now, if the manually entered price matches the price associated with the VitalSource SKU, we will leave the margin field unchanged. However, if the manually entered price does not match the price associated with the VitalSource SKU, we will reset the margin to the default.
CONNECT - LMS COURSE MATCH EXPORT & IMPORT
Connect can now associate LMS course matches en masse using an export and subsequent import. The export will provide necessary LMS admins the list of Connect based sections needing an LMS course association in the correct format the application will expect on import. The export can be found on the Courses page in Connect. The completed files can then be supplied to your assigned Customer Success Manager for import. CONNECT - COURSES PAGE “PLAYLIST” FEATURE
We’ve enhanced the way users can associate section email contacts as well as LMS course IDs! The multi-select checkboxes have been replaced by a new and improved “playlist” feature. You can now hop into any section within the list and easily tab to next and previous sections in the list. This allows you to add information to sections in rapidfire succession!
CONNECT - LMS COURSE MATCH DASHBOARD MESSAGE
For Connect + Launch users, we will now show a notification on the Connect Dashboard that keeps you updated on which Connect sections need LMS course IDs associated. These course matches are needed to properly provision IA content through Launch, so this allows users to easily see when those pairs are needed.
COMPARE - VITALSOURCE MULTI-ITEM CHECKOUT SUPPORT
We have improved the VitalSource checkout experience on Compare. Students no longer have to check out for each VitalSource book in their shopping cart individually. They are now properly routed to the VitalSource.com checkout page with all items loaded into their cart at once!
CONNECT - “DEFAULT” SCHEDULE RENAMING
To minimize confusion, from here on out, “default” schedules associated to newly created Connect catalogs will take on the catalog name instead of “Default Schedule.” These pre-loaded “default” schedules should be edited to become a real schedule applied to groups and new schedules should only be created when the term/catalog has multiple sessions that need to be associated to section groups.
CONNECT - BILLING ISBN EDITING
We’ve lifted the restriction on entering custom Billing ISBNs for VitalSource delivered items. Users should now be able to edit that field freely, regardless of SKU match or price verification state. In the event a custom Billing ISBN is applied, the associated VitalSource SKU will remain untouched.
CONNECT - SCHEDULE NAME ADDED TO STUDENT CHARGES & REFUNDS REPORT
We’ve added a new column to both tabs of the Student Charges & Refunds report: “Schedule Name.” Users can now sort, filter, and extract charge/refund information based on schedule using this report.
CONNECT - FILTER BY SCHEDULE FOR ITEMS & SECTIONS REPORT
We’ve added a new filter to the Items & Sections report that allows you to run the report for a specific schedule. Alternatively, you can run the report for all schedules within a catalog, as was supported previously.

COLLECT - INFRASTRUCTURE UPDATE
We’ve updated the underlying technology behind the Collect application. Updates like this one ensure our tools continue to run efficiently and securely.
CONNECT, COMPETE & COLLECT - NEW PASSWORD REQUIREMENTS
In a continued effort to keep our applications secure, we’ve implemented new password requirements for Compete/Connect and Collect users. New requirements can be found on the password reset and new user creation pages of the applications.
CONNECT - ACCESS LENGTH ADDED TO EMAIL FOOTER INFORMATION
We now include “Access Length” in email footers for items delivered by VitalSource. NOTE: Connect items delivered by VitalSource must be matched to a VitalSource SKU in order for this feature to apply to email footers.

COMPETE - REMOVED CACHED DATA FOR NEBRASKA COMPARE INTEGRATION
A few years ago, in an effort to improve the stability of the Nebraska + Compare integration during rush, we implemented a process of caching (aka storing) of data. We have recently implemented a new Nebraska API version that allows us to pull that data in real time and removed the need to cache this data.
CONNECT - CRN ADDED TO THE OPT-OUTS REPORT (MBS USERS ONLY)
We’ve added a CRN column to the Opt-Outs report (downloaded via the Reports page in Connect) for MBS integrated clients.
CONNECT - STUDENT PRICE ADDED TO OPT-OUTS REPORT
We’ve added student price to both the summary and detail tabs of the Opt-Outs report (downloaded via the Reports page in Connect).
CONNECT - ABILITY TO LOG OUT
For added security, Connect users can now explicitly log out of the application without waiting for browser time out.

CONNECT - MATCH SKU & VERIFY PRICE ON ITEM IMPORT
We’ve recently added functionality that combines the best of both worlds: bulk item creation via import and setting items to either a “Matched SKU” or “Verified Price” state. COMPARE + CONNECT - ISBN DASHES SANITIZED
Previously ISBNs entered into Connect with dashes would not properly match up to POS adopted ISBNs without dashes. The mismatched ISBNs prevented us from showing the Inclusive Access Compare experience properly. This issue has been resolved.
WEEK OF APRIL 29TH
CONNECT - LEVERAGE CONNECT CHARGE HISTORIES FOR CONTINUATION
We’ve released an enhancement to the Connect continuation feature that allows us to easily leverage Connect based charge histories to automatically mark students as continuation. Ask your Customer Success rep for information on how to take advantage of this new feature!
CONNECT - UPDATE STUDENT INFORMATION ON IMPORT
Historically student information could only be updated manually using the Students page in Connect. With this new feature we will automatically update both student name and email address information automatically via enrollment imports where manual adjustments have not already been made.
COLLECT - CHARACTER SANITIZATION ON THE FILTERED COURSE EXPORT
Non-standard characters are now being translated into standard characters on the Collect Filtered Courses export. This change leads to improved data fidelity on the export as well as resolves an ingestion issue for NetSuite integration users.

We’ve added the participation model preference, recorded on groups, to the Items & Sections report in Connect. You can now track participation model on the section level using this report.

CONNECT - MANUAL ITEMS CAN NOW BECOME “MATCHED” OR “VERIFIED”
We’ve added a new feature that makes it easier than ever to create items in a way that ensures students have access to content and at the right price. To that end, you can now convert manually created VitalSource items to either “Matched SKU” (important for student content access) or “Verified Price” (important for correct student billing) states!

CONNECT - GROUP-LEVEL PARTICIPATION MODEL SUPPORT
We’ve moved the setting that allows you to control how students mark their participation in IA to the group level. Previously it was a catalog-wide setting, meaning all courses/sections in the program were part of a single model. This added flexibility allows you to support both IA program types within the same catalog on a course/section level basis!

We’ve added tooltips to help decipher the student charge state associated with statement pending queues. Wonder no more what those tiny icons and stats mean below the larger charge/refund figures.

As with all new application releases, a fair amount of last minute bugs and feedback items follow right after. As such, we’ve been paying special attention to the issues that have cropped up and leveraged our dedicated project team to swiftly tackle any remaining issues users discover.

COLLECT - APPROVER & REVIEWER IA TOOLS
Along with the new version of the instructor experience, we’ve also launched a new set of Inclusive Access features for Approver users in Collect. From smart Inclusive Access communication with faculty to solidifying interest into confirmed Inclusive Access adoptions, Collect’s got you covered.
COLLECT - INSTRUCTOR EXPERIENCE UPDATE
Version 3 of the new instructor experience in Collect is officially out! We’ve given the interface a fresh coat paint, updated the underlying technology, and packed it full of new features to help users discover digital and indicate Inclusive Access on adoptions.
CONNECT - NEW ENROLLMENT IMPORT LOGIC
After a rush season of piloting a new enrollment import infrastructure, we’ve officially switched all enrollment import processes to this new and improved functionality. Imports now complete faster with improved process stability.

COLLECT - NEW SETTING TO CONTROL AMAZON & GOOGLE LINKS
Users can now control whether or not faculty have access to Amazon and Google lookup links in the faculty interface of Collect.

CONNECT - ORGANIZATION NAME SETTING
We’ve added a new setting to Connect that allows further program and branding customization. You can now enter a custom “organization name” that will appear at the top of student’s personalized Portal page.
CONNECT - ENROLLMENT IMPORT IMPROVEMENT
We’ve implemented a feature that will strip enrollment files of pesky blank spaces that have the potential to prevent the successful import of files. Yay for a boost to import stability!
WEEK OF FEBRUARY 11TH
CONNECT - UPDATE TO PERSONALIZED LINK MESSAGE
The hard coded message that accompanies student’s personalized Portal links in Connect generated emails has been updated to be more clear. It now says “Click the following link to visit your Inclusive Access Student Portal (this is not a link to access course materials directly).”
CONNECT - DASHBOARD INTERFACE UPDATES
This Dashboard update includes a handful of visual updates as well as a more straightforward enrollment import statistic to help users track the health of their enrollment imports. We’ve also added some tooltips with additional insight into how various Dashboard stats are calculated.
COLLECT - UPDATED TO NEBRASKA API VERSION 3.13
Verba Collect is now on the most up-to-date version of the Nebraska API. This will provide the integration with more stability and access to new datapoints we have historically not received.

CONNECT - STUDENTS PAGE SEARCH + PAGINATION ISSUE
We’ve resolved an issue on the Students page that caused unexpected behavior when search terms were entered on a results page other than the first. Entering new search terms now resets page results properly.
CONNECT - DIGITAL ADOPTIONS REPORT
We’ve added a new report in Connect to help stores extract lists of adopted materials and their VitalSource matches. It can be used to help identify and work large lists of matched adoptions, complete various analyses, etc.

CONNECT - VARIOUS INTERFACE IMPROVEMENTS
Primary page actions now stick to the top of the page and follow you as you scroll, making it easy to jump into action no matter where you are within lists.

CONNECT - DISTRIBUTION RIGHTS ITEMS PAGE FILTERS
In addition to seeing distribution rights on items in Connect, you can now filter to them on the Items page! You can use this new filter to keep track of VitalSource delivered items that still need distribution rights.
WEEK OF JANUARY 14TH
COLLECT - “SELECT ALL” IN MERGE & SPLIT MODAL
We’ve added the ability to select all sections in the Merge & Split modal, allowing easy selection of several sections at once.
COMPARE - RESPECT TERM SORT ORDER FROM PRISMWEB
We’re now respecting the term sort order Nebraska users can set in PrismWeb on the Compare course selector. The term dropdown will now match what is set in PrismWeb.
CONNECT - DISTRIBUTION RIGHTS ON EXPLORE & CREATE ITEMS
We’ve added new tags to available VitalSource items on the Explore & Create page that indicate whether or not VitalSource distribution rights are present for your institution. The presence of a power “on” icon means your students will be able to access the content whereas a power “off” icon indicates that work needs to be done in order for access to be granted.
CONNECT - DISTRIBUTION RIGHTS ON ITEMS & SECTIONS REPORT
We’ve also added information about the presence of distribution rights to the standard Items & Sections report.
CONNECT - “ENROLLMENT DATA CURRENT AS OF…” TIMESTAMP
You can now view when enrollment imports were last done for a selected catalog. Hover over the enrollment check mark on the Dashboard in Connect and view the relevant tooltip.
CONNECT - MULTI-SECTION LICENSES SHOW IN BOLD
In the event students are enrolled in multiple sections tied to a single book, we’ve updated the Portal interface to show additional sections in bold. They no longer get lost in the shuffle.
WEEK OF DECEMBER 17TH
CONNECT - DISTRIBUTION RIGHTS TAGS ON CREATED ITEMS
We’ve added new tags to VitalSource delivered items in Connect that indicate whether or not VitalSource distribution rights are present for your institution. In order for us to check whether or not you have distribution rights you’ll need to either create “verified” items or match manually added items to a VitalSource SKU.
COLLECT - RESOLVED ISSUES WITH INSITE (MBS) PUSH FUNCTIONALITY
We’ve resolved underlying issues that caused adoption pushes to MBS’ InSite to fail.
CONNECT - SECTION ASSOCIATION IMPORT
We’ve built a new import that allows us to associate courses and sections with items en masse! No need to manually associate them one by one. Email email@example.com to learn more!
CONNECT - VITALSOURCE E-TEXT FORMAT DISPLAYED ON ITEMS
We’ve added the e-text format (PDF or ePUB) to the item metadata that is displayed on the Connect Items list and Edit Item page in Connect. It’s an easy way to confirm the VBID is associated with the e-text format you intend!
WEEK OF NOVEMBER 26TH
CONNECT - SECTION NOT NEEDED ON OPT-IN IMPORT
Including section numbers on opt-in imports are now optional, making it much more flexible.
CONNECT - CC FACULTY ON WELCOME EMAILS
Users can now assign email contact(s) to sections in Connect, allowing us to send them a copy of Welcome Emails sent to their students! Section email contacts can be added via the new Courses page in Connect.

We’ve reworked the Market Pricing Analysis report header to include the catalog/term name, making it easier to tell which term the report ties to.
CONNECT - MORE OUT-OF-THE-BOX IA PRICES THAN EVER!
With the huge influx of out-of-the-box Inclusive Access priced assets in Connect, we needed to rework the “Other IA Prices” filter on Explore & Create Items in order to maintain reasonable page load performance. Instead of loading all 300K books at once (which no human can scroll through!), the page is now designed to work based off search query.

You can now bounce item to item in a filtered list by using the “next/prev” buttons in the top right corner of the view item interface. No more going back and forth from Connect Items list page and view item!

We’ve resolved an issue that caused the item count on the Connect Items tab not to show when another Items tab was selected.

We’ve resolved an issue (with Nebraska Support’s help!) that prevented e-books from showing as available for purchase on Compare, regardless of inventory levels.
CONNECT - WELCOME EMAIL DATES ON THE DASHBOARD
We’re now displaying “NOT SET” in the Welcome Email field on the Dashboard when the feature is not toggled on. This replaced the confusing default system generated dates that displayed previously.

Email footers are now separated by line breaks and items with multiple attachments will also have line breaks, making the information easier to read!

We’ve resolved an issue with Connect user sessions timing out silently. From here on out, when sessions expire the app will present users with a login page.
CONNECT - ITEMS PAGE LOADING ISSUE
We’ve resolved a performance issue with the Items page that causes page elements to inconsistently load for catalogs with a large quantity of items. The page now loads in more reasonable stages and elements are not as “jumpy” during the page load process.
COMPARE - HTTP REDIRECT TO HTTPS
Since Verba Compare has never required students to enter information of a personal nature the site has always been “secure.” However, in light of Google Chrome’s update that warns users of “Not Secure” websites, we’ve implemented a feature that redirects all HTTP Compare URLs to HTTPS.
CONNECT - BILLING ISBN VALIDATION IMPROVEMENTS
We’ve implemented changes that properly strip Billing ISBN entries of leading and trailing whitespaces, an issue that used to cause an error. We’ve also removed case sensitivity rules from this field as well.
CONNECT - “SUBSCRIBE” TO VENDOR CENSUS REPORT EMAILS
We’ve added a setting that allows Connect users to “subscribe” to receiving email notifications when vendor census reports are generated as a result of invoice/credit generation. Subscribe if you’re curious to know what we pass along to vendor partners on your behalf!

We’ve added a “Get Help” button on student Portals so students can easily reach out to their store for support. The button will use the same “Student Inquiry Email Address” as used throughout the other Connect student-facing applications.

We’ve resolved an issue that prevented student license models to switch to opt-in if the “Opt-In Centric” setting was turned on after items were created. In addition, newly created catalogs will be created with the previous catalog’s opt-in centric setting state so you don’t have to remember to toggle it on term to term.

Merging book records in Connect to adopted books in Compare previously required an exact match on isbn including case; we’ve removed that requirement so now the matching process is not case sensitive.
COLLECT - USER IMPORT IS REVIVED
User imports are back! We resolved an issue which prevented users from importing their own users (reviewers / submitters) to Collect.

CONNECT - UNEXPECTED ERROR WITH FAILED EMAILS
We discovered that the email sending service used to send and track student emails was giving us a new and unexpected delivery failure error. We updated our rejected email logic to account for this new error so the “FAILED EMAIL STUDENTS” filter now reflects impacted students correctly.
CONNECT - IMPROVED DASHBOARD LOAD TIMES
We redistributed the workers that load information on the dashboard to greatly improve load times and avoid timeouts.

In the past Canadian clients had access to all of Connect, but we have since hidden the Pricing page, item level “Pricing & Analysis”, and removed the “Request & Analyze” button on “Items to Explore”.

We’ve built a new feature that allows Reviewers and Approvers working from the Course Management page to view and add course materials from any unstashed term, course and section. COMPETE- INTRODUCING NEBRASKA REBIDS IN DYNAMIC RENTAL
Nebraska Rebids have been added as a new buyer in Dynamic Rental. These are pre-populated Nebraska Book Company offers that can potentially outbid your previous rebate quotes. If Nebraska Rebids “win” as the highest offer, you can go ahead and box the Nebraska Rebid books along with the your other scanned Nebraska units. Verba will communicate to Nebraska which books won at the higher Nebraska Rebids price and Nebraska will pay you the higher value.

If you tried to use the date picker to set your Term End Date setting, it would close without saving the date. We fixed that.

You may have noticed there’s a new Quick Filter on your Courses Page! Sections with Messages allows you to filter down to sections with messages within a certain date range. We default to the last 7 days, but you can change it to whatever date range you’d like. Bonus: when you click into the Course Management page, the sections with messages will be sorted to the top and marked with stars.
CONNECT - ITEM AND GROUP DELETION
You can now delete any items or groups that you will not be making active for your term. Don’t worry, we won’t allow you to delete anything that is active for the term.
CONNECT - NEW ITEM FIELD: CONTENT TYPE
We have added a new field to your individual items: Content Type. You now need to let Verba know if your Inclusive Access item is e-text only, courseware only, or a bundle of both e-text and courseware.

The Exports Filtered Sections from the Courses defaults to sending an email in a compressed zip file containing 3 HTML files and an .csv or .tsv file. On some campuses the zip extension is stripped or blocked by email servers. We added an option to just export the .csv/.tsv file format for folks who don't use the HTML files at all.
COLLECT - ADDED SECTION NUMBER TO PAST BOOK DROPDOWN

An instructor could hit the “enter” button in the estimated enrollment field, and if all the other required fields were filled out it would submit the adoption to Collect without asking them to confirm. This has been fixed.

When you pressed the “Download Data” button on the Invoices page, no report was delivered despite a message telling you the report had been generated. The invoices are now being delivered correctly.

COLLECT - DRAMATICALLY IMPROVED IMPORT SPEED AND RELIABILITY
Last week we pushed out new import code, which was THE culmination of a six month project. We have completely rewritten the way that imports run to provide more stability, efficiency and speed when getting data into Collect. We also improved upon the error reporting for failed imports: the email will now contain more succinct descriptions of the error so as to aid in any troubleshooting necessary.

We discovered an issue with the rental rebate loader where it wasn’t properly storing the uploaded offers. We have resolved this issue and rental rebates will now upload properly.
CONNECT - REPORTS PAGE ERROR WHEN NO INVOICES TO DISPLAY
For Connect clients who had yet to be invoiced for their IA items, the reports screen was throwing up an error due to the lack of invoice. The page will no longer display an error in these instances.

When you tried to get the "Download Data" report on the Print Invoice page, you got an error message. This has been fixed.

We’ve corrected an issue that caused the “student price” to occasionally display differently on the Pricing Analysis portion of the item record. The student price now displays consistently throughout Connect.

We’ve resolved a bug that was occasionally causing students with missing email addresses to not show up when using the “Failed Email” filter on the Students page.
COMPETE - MARKING DUPLICATE OFFERS AS STALE IN SOURCING
This was a follow up to a project we did previously where if you checked out an offer that was no longer available, we’d mark it as “stale” and remove it from our list of offers. We extended this to any offer that appears to be a duplicate of an offer that is no longer available.

We found a bug where items ordered and immediately cancelled through Amazon were not showing as “Not Coming” on the Full-Service Purchases page until 30 days after the order was initially placed. This has been fixed and order details will now accurately reflect all cancelled items.

Occasionally status change emails failed to send and the errors were getting buried to the point of not being helpful. We’ve improved our error reporting logs surrounding these issues so moving forward we’ll be better equipped to handle them!
CONNECT - BUG IN PRINTING INVOICE WHEN MULTIPLE INVOICES PRESENT
If a campus had multiple invoices visible on their Billing page, we would only show the most recent one when they went to print any of their invoices for the term. This has been fixed.

Submitters could not scroll down to confirm their adoption on the Confirm and Submit step if they had a large number of sections they were adopting for a course. This has been fixed.

Since reviewers do not have the correct permission level to delete sections we’ve removed the button that made them think they could. No more confusing warning error messages for reviewers trying to use this option!

The close button in the "Request Access to Course” modal was unresponsive. We fixed it so that it actually closes the modal when the button is clicked.

We’ve built a brand new Full-Service Sourcing Purchase Orders page that combines all the data you need to build and maintain purchase orders! Download an exportable report of orders, enter backoffice PO numbers, track shipments, and more - all in one spot! You don’t have to go through Bin & Hold Management to get to order tracking anymore. This new PO page also comes with a “Sourcing” navigation dropdown reorganization. All Full-Service Sourcing pages are now grouped together making it easier to find the information you need at any point in your sourcing workflow.
COLLECT - ADDED “REVISE SECTION” WARNING MODAL
Some instructors did not understand the full implications of clicking the “REVISE SECTION” button in Collect. To address the confusion we’ve added a confirmation modal that provides more context as to what the button does and which sections it impacts. This should reduce sections that are submitted, “revised” with no changes, and never re-submitted.
CONNECT - BETTER HANDLING OF MISSING EMAIL ADDRESSES
The way we were classifying missing email addresses prevented us from being able to accurately notify users that those email attempts failed due to the missing email addresses. We’ve corrected this issue and those missing emails are now captured in the “Invalid Email Addresses” filter on the Students page.

The engine that generates Valore and Half.com offers in Full- and Self-Service Sourcing was down temporarily for a period of days. This has been fixed and offers are showing again in Compete. In addition, we are adding additional tests to make sure we are alerted if the engine fails in the future.
CONNECT - REDUCED RELOADS ON ACTIVATIONS PAGE
We frequently reloaded the activations page, which was slowing down the Connect interface unnecessarily. We have since reduced the number of reloads to improve performance.

We’ve resolved an issue that caused a white bar to display for some users on each dropdown menu.
CONNECT - CANCELLED OPT-OUTS REMOVED FROM THE OPT-OUTS PAGE AFTER ADD/DROP DATE
Before this update, if a student opted out of an Inclusive Access item, and then requested to cancel that opt-out, the cancelled opt-out remained on the opt-outs page after the Add/Drop deadline had passed. This made it confusing to tell who had cancelled their opt-out. We now remove those students from the Opt-Outs page after this date because they are now considered active students.

COLLECT - ADDED SUPPLY AND OER FIELDS TO THE MANAGER’S INTERFACE AND EXPORTS
Supply and OER fields did not show on the Course Management page nor the course exports. We added the following fields, when provided by submitters, to the selected materials list and the exports: Description / Title, Supplier / Creator, Link (URL) and Price.

We’ve fixed a display issue that caused the “Bulletin Board Text” , which is included in all Collect emails, to not to show in the Email Filtered Sections preview window. We’ve added this to the preview so it is now more clear what the email will look like when sent.
COLLECT - ERATEX TERM ID BUG
There was a bug that wouldn’t let users save their eRATEX term ID (under Term Settings) temporarily. This has been fixed.
CONNECT - INVOICE AMOUNT BUG
We had a bug that rounded any invoice over $100,000. This has been fixed, and all invoices have been generated for their correct amount.
COLLECT - FORMATTING ON COURSEPACK BUTTON POPUP
If stores have a long custom coursepack name, the “Add [Coursepack name]” button in the pop-up was incorrectly formatted. This has been fixed to accommodate longer names.

Student charges for IA items could not be generated if a delivery method was not assigned. We now allow student charges to be generated without a delivery method assigned.

Because changes to pricing can cause problems after an item is activated in Compare, we locked down Inclusive Access pricing if Active in Compare. If you need to change this price, please reach out to Verba Support.
COLLECT - POINTER NOW VISIBLE ON SETTINGS PAGE
In your Collect settings, you can toggle on and off a setting by either clicking on the On/Off toggle, or on the language beside it. Previously, the pointer only appeared over the toggle. Now we display the pointer on any point on the page where you can turn on or off the setting.
CONNECT - ADDED NEW “DISTRIBUTION METHOD” FIELD ON ACTIVATIONS PAGE

COMPARE - CHANGED WEEKLY AFFILIATE EARNINGS UPDATE TO DAILY
We were updating the Affiliate Earnings page in Compete once a week. We have switched this to daily for more up-to-date earnings information.
CONNECT - FIXED PAYMENT RECEIVED FLAG ON BILLING PAGE
We weren’t correctly reflecting when invoice payments had been made. We’ve fixed this design bug and the Billing page accurately reflects payment status.
COLLECT - BUG IN MULTI-SELECT WHEN EMAILING ON DEPARTMENTS PAGE
When you emailed users on the Departments page, and used the Multi-Select to choose either "Better than term average" or "Worse than term average," it selected the departments for the opposite set. This has been fixed.
COLLECT - DESIGN BUG ON THE IMPORTS PAGE
For campuses doing manual imports into Collect, if you accessed a dropdown too close to the bottom of the Imports page, the footer got in the way. This has been fixed.
COMPARE - FIXED DISPLAY ISSUE IN FIREFOX
We fixed an issue where the “Begin Price Comparison” button would display off center when viewing Compare on Firefox in windows larger than 1600px.
WEEK OF AUG 15TH
CONNECT - ACTIVE STUDENTS REPORT TIMING OUT
For schools with a large number of IA students, the Active Students Report was timing out. We now deliver this report to your inbox, which fixes the timeout issue.
COLLECT - PROBLEM WITH SORTING SECTION GROUPS
We were not sorting the section groups on the Course Management page alphanumerically. This has been fixed.
COLLECT - IMPORT OF LARGE FILE SIZE FAILING
There was a bug that caused large file size course imports to fail. This has been fixed.
COLLECT - EMPTY SECTIONS AND SECTION GROUPS
We noticed that, in some cases, empty sections and section groups appeared on the Course Management Page. This has been fixed.
WEEK OF AUG 8TH
COMPETE - PRICING EXPORT WAS NOT WORKING
There was a brief downtime of pricing export email generation. This has been fixed.
COMPARE - INCORRECTLY DISPLAYED ITEMS AS UNAVAILABLE FOR SOME CLIENTS
For a small handful of Compare sites, a bug was discovered that was incorrectly marking items as “unavailable” for checkout when they were indeed available. We’ve squashed it and items are now showing as available when they should be.
CONNECT - COMPARE DISPLAY ISSUE WHEN ITEM ON ACTIVATIONS PAGE
Previously, we hid an ISBN from Compare if it had been worked at all on the Activations page (whether it had a price entered, or not), until the point you hit “Activate on Compare.” Now, if an ISBN flows over your integration, we will not hide the item from Compare.
CONNECT - ISBN VALIDATION ISSUES
We’ve removed some problematic logic surrounding ISBN validation in Connect, causing stores who use unconventional ISBN formats not to be able to activate items. We’ve removed this logic and items can now be activated no matter what ISBN format is used.
COMPETE - CATALOG ITEM COUNT IS BACK!
The Dashboard redesign launched in December 2015 included a design change that removed the “total items” count from that page. Since you missed it (we did too!), we’ve added it back. It can now be found on the Items page.
COMPETE - MISMATCHED DROPDOWN NAMES FOR COMPARE SETTING OPTIONS
On the settings page we called them something different than the Compare dropdown. We’ve updated the naming convention in both spots to match!
CONNECT - OPT-OUT VALIDATION
Since so much hinges on recording student opt-outs properly, student entered opt-out data is now matched against records we have in the database. If a student types the wrong information or is not registered for a course, we will show a message on Compare letting them know the opt-out could not be recorded and they should contact the store with questions. Hooray for data integrity!
CONNECT - STUDENT SEARCH PERFORMANCE UPGRADE
Sometimes searching for students took longer than we were happy with, so we’ve hired more hamsters and things are running more smoothly.
COMPETE - DOT OVERLAP DISPLAY ISSUE ON THE “YOU VS. MARKETPLACE” GRAPH
When vendors had the same buyback pricing information their dots would overlap in a way that make it impossible to see them stacked on top of each other. We’ve made them semi-transparent so you can see when there are more than one dot on the same price!
COMPETE - IMPROVED LOGIC SURROUNDING THE REMOVAL OF STALE OFFERS IN SOURCING
We we’re removing unavailable offers frequently enough, causing books to appear available in Full-Service Sourcing when they were not. We’ve updated this behavior to reduce the amount of stale offers lingering in Full-Service Sourcing tool.
COMPETE - ADDED IMPORTED “MAX QUANTITY” TO RENTAL TITLES REPORT
We’ve added a new column to the Rental Titles Report to reflect the imported “max. quantity” for the winning vendor and/or selected primary vendor.

COMPETE/COMPARE - FIXED A TERM DISPLAY OPTION IMPACTING TIMBER COMPARE CLIENTS
There was a display issue causing Timber clients to not have the correct toggle options for Compare terms. We’ve fixed the issue and Term Display Options in Compete now reflects the proper information and toggles for Timber clients.
COLLECT - DROPDOWN RESULTS CUT OFF IN VARIOUS MODALS
Throughout the interface there were instances of dropdown list results being cut off at the bottom of a modal/window. We’ve resolved those display issues and dropdowns are showing as expected.
CONNECT - MULTIPLE TERMS DISPLAYED ON STUDENTS PAGE
There was a display error on the Students page causing multiple terms of Inclusive Access items to be shown within a single term. We have fixed this so that we accurately display a student’s set of Inclusive Access items for the term.
COLLECT - DEFAULTS ON ADOPTION QUESTIONS OPPOSITE FOR INSTRUCTORS AND ADMINS
When adding books, the default (yes/no) to the questions asked (ex: OK to use new edition?) were reversed in the faculty walkthrough versus the admin interface. This has been fixed so that when adding new books both submitters and approvers start with the same yes/no answers (which they can change as they see fit).
CONNECT - zyBOOKS ADDED AS A PUBLISHER
If you’re using zyBooks as an Inclusive Access publisher, you can now select it from the “Publisher” dropdown on the Activations page.
COLLECT - MERGING/SPLITTING REQUIRED HARD REFRESH
In some cases, merging and splitting sections required a hard refresh to display the merged/split sections' course materials. This has been fixed.

COLLECT - INCONSISTENCY IN “NOTIFY USER” CHECKBOX DURING STATUS CHANGE
Some sections in Collect did not display the “Notify associated users of this status change” checkbox, so admins couldn’t decide whether to email users, or not. This has been fixed.
COLLECT - BUG IN REVIEWER INTERFACE WHEN NO EDITABLE TERMS
If a reviewer accessed their personalized link when there were no terms open as editable, the page would error out. This has been fixed so that if there are no editable terms, we’ll display uneditable terms with a note that they cannot be edited. We will not display uneditable terms if there are editable terms available. Approvers can still access and edit uneditable terms.
COLLECT - DUPLICATE/NOT OFFERED SECTION MARKED AS “MOVING BACKWARDS”
When sending out status change notifications to users, we would display that sections marked “duplicate/not offered” were moving backwards in the adoptions process. As this is not the case, we have corrected it.

CONNECT - NEW TABS ON SETTINGS PAGE
We’ve separated the controls on the settings page into three tabs, grouped together by function.
COLLECT - SOME APPROVERS WERE NOT RECEIVING “TO APPROVE” EMAILS
For certain stores, approvers that were set to receive “Attention Required” emails were not receiving email notification when it was their turn to approve an adoption. This has been fixed.
COLLECT - PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENTS
Our tech team made a number of improvements to speed up load time and page-to-page navigation in the new version of Collect.
COLLECT - ERATEX STORE IDs NOW BACK IN COLLECT
The ability to edit Eratex Store IDs in Collect was temporarily unavailable from the course management screen which has now been fixed.
COLLECT - BROKEN REVIEWER INTERFACE AFFORDABILITY MODAL
We fixed a page load error when the Affordability link was clicked for Reviewers. The page load issue was causing the modal not to display properly which has now been resolved.
COLLECT - FIXED AN ISSUE WITH SORTING ON THE AFFORDABILITY PAGE
Changing the default sort on the Affordability page used to cause the page to break. We corrected the problem so that no longer happens.
COLLECT - ADDED ADDITIONAL FIELDS TO BOOK CARDS ON THE COURSE MANAGEMENT PAGE
Selected book cards on the course management page were only displaying title and isbn. We updated them to display more data points, including: price, author, publisher, edition and publication date.
COLLECT - FIXED A BUG THAT PREVENTED ICONS FROM LOADING
After the release of the update some visual elements loaded as a box instead of an icon. We corrected the issue and now all icons load properly.
COLLECT - IMPROVED CROSS BROWSER COMPATIBILITY
In some browsers, smaller aspect ratios caused certain elements, such as the messaging box, to disappear from view. We fixed the issue, making the page more responsive to various screen sizes.
COLLECT - ADDED REQUIRED STATUS FOR PAST MATERIALS
Required status was not being displayed for past books after the update. We re-added it to the Course Management page.
COLLECT - COULD NOT RETRIEVE eRATEX DEPARTMENT IDs
We fixed a bug that caused an error when eRATEX clients tried to update their Department IDs.

COLLECT - SECTION DISPLAY ISSUE WHEN USING ADVANCED COURSE FILTER
We corrected a display issue on the Courses page when using the Advanced Filter. We pulled the correct courses, but did not always display the correct sections for those courses. This has been fixed.

Starting July 1, Amazon became a Full-Service Retailer in Verba Compare. Verba now handles your Amazon affiliate relationship, and we'll be pooling together all Verba clients for higher Amazon commissions across the board!

COMPETE - INCORRECT CREDIT AVAILABLE SHOWN IN FULL-SERVICE SOURCING
We’ve corrected an issue that caused credit available to show incorrectly for some clients in Full-Service Sourcing. Credit lines have all been updated to reflect the accurate amounts.
CONNECT - LONG SECTION NAMES NO LONGER CAUSE DESIGN PROBLEMS
On the Communications page, if a section name was too long it would cause the toggle switch to be formatted incorrectly. This has been fixed.
COMPETE - LATE SHIPPED FULL-SERVICE SOURCING ITEMS
We discovered an issue that allowed a small handful of items to be shipped from the warehouse beyond the expected timeframe. The issue has been corrected and we will now block those items from leaving the warehouse!

CONNECT - MANUALLY ADDED IA ITEMS NOW MATCH UP TO IMPORT ITEMS
We weren’t properly matching up manually added IA items to what was received during subsequent integration Compare imports. This was causing duplicate records to exist on Compare sites. This has been corrected and we accurately tie these items together to create one record in Compare.
CONNECT - TECH FEE DID NOT SHOW THE RIGHT VALUE
For some clients, the percentage and calculated tech fee was not properly displayed in Connect. This has been fixed.

We’ve revised the way invoice dates are displayed on the “Verba Invoices & Billing” page in Compete. Instead of a range of dates for both invoices and credits, we now display a single date for invoices and date range for issued credits done on a monthly basis.
COMPETE - CHANGED LANGUAGE ON RENTAL IMPORTS IN PRE-RETURN/SCANNING MODE
We’ve made a copy change on what used to be the “Import Catalog Data” portion of the Rental Console to make it more clear. During Pre-Return and Scanning mode the import is now labeled as “IMPORT RENTAL SALES AND/OR QUANTITY TO KEEP.”
COMPARE - FIXED OPEN FOR ORDERING BUG FOR TIMBER USERS
Some Timber users noticed that the terms they had open for ordering were not properly displayed on Compare. We made an underlying change that fixed this problem.

We resolved an issue that allowed a small handful of books to be shipped to clients instead of back to sellers that had been rejected due to quality/late shipment.
COMPETE - NOW GIVE OPTION TO SHIP FREIGHT OR GROUND IN RENTAL
We now give anyone shipping over 10 boxes the option to ship their Verba Marketplace books either FedEx Ground or FedEx Freight. This option can be found in the Shipments page of Dynamic Rental.

We recently implemented a feature that allows for the deletion of users in Collect but we missed a spot! We squashed that bug and deleted users no longer show up in search results in the “Add Catalog Administrators” window on the Users page.

Added Closed Captioning to Collect Professor Walkthrough Tutorial videos
I wanted to let everyone know that both professor walkthrough tutorial videos (w/ self assign and w/o) now have closed captioning so that hearing impaired faculty can utilize these resources when accessing Collect.
We have also made the Compare tutorial video have optional closed captions as well
COLLECT - ADDED SECTION NUMBERS TO SECTION ASSIGNMENTS IN EMAILS
When we added section numbers to course information in Collect emails, we did not put them on every instance of the course information. We found that this was missing in the Section Assignments area, so we’ve added the section numbers there, too.
COMPETE - FIXED SOURCING DISCREPANCY MAILER
The mailer that notified us when a sourcing discrepancy was submitted broke temporarily. We fixed the bug and have processed all discrepancies that were affected.
COLLECT - RESTORED RESPONSE TIME IN SEARCH
Search results were loading very slowly after the Affordable Alternatives updated was rolled out. We fixed the bug and response times went back to baseline

COLLECT - PROFESSOR WALKTHROUGH SELECT STATUS DROP DOWN TOO WIDE
Fixed an issue where the status selection drop down menu could be too wide, covering the copy next to it. We updated this menu to have a fixed width.
COLLECT - ADDING NOTES DID NOT TRIGGER “MODIFIED SINCE EXPORTED” FLAG
We fixed a bug causing new notes added to courses not to trip the “Modified Since Exported” flag. You can now get a fresh export prompt when this change occurs!
COLLECT - REVERSED 3RD & 4TH CUSTOM QUESTION ANSWERS DISPLAYED FOR REVIEWERS/APPROVERS
This happened as a result of a recent code/design change impacting the way Faculty respond to supplemental questions in the walkthrough (changing to “yes/no” vs. checkbox format. An unintended consequence of the change was that we displayed some of the answers to two of the questions incorrectly to reviewers and approvers between 4/14 and 4/22. There was never any inaccurate information displayed to faculty and their answers were recorded correctly in our database. We have resolved the brief display bug and reached out to every possibly affected!
COMPETE - DEPARTMENT DISPLAY FOR RATEX CLIENT TERMS
On the “Sections” page in Compete we now display term codes (e.g. ANTH) instead of full department name (e.g. Anthropology). This will help us better integrate with registrar systems for RATEX clients moving forward.

When it comes to Inclusive Access, making accurate payments to multiple publishers can be painstaking and time-consuming. Verba Connect now includes a Billing page with everything you need to issue payment to Verba, so we can distribute payments to publisher partners on your behalf.
COMPARE - YOU CAN NOW TURN OFF PRICE COMPARISON AT ANY TIME
Many of you asked for this feature, so we built it! You can now toggle on or off marketplace offers on your Compare site on a term-by-term basis. You can do this on your Term Settings page.
COLLECT - IMPROVEMENTS TO IMPORTS
Our tech team has been reviewing common errors on imports, and has been fixing them! This means we will have improved import reliability with fewer failures.
COMPETE - COULD SET PRIMARY MINIMUM % WITHOUT PRIMARY SET
In Dynamic Rental, stores could set a minimum to send to their primary without telling us who that primary is. We now throw an error when this happens.
COMPETE - COULD SET BIN SHIP DATE IN THE PAST IN CERTAIN BROWSERS
In some non-Chrome browsers, users could enter a bin ship date in the past. This has been fixed.
COMPARE - CAD/USD PRICING DISPLAY IN CHECKOUT
For Canadian clients, some vendors not explicitly marked as US vendors would display the CAD currency label on the Checkout page (despite being marked as USD on the initial Compare page). This has been fixed.
COMPETE - FUNKY TERM FORMATTING WHEN YOU GO TO SCANNING MODE
Occasionally the term name would change formatting when you navigate to the Scanning interface in Dynamic Rental. This tiny design bug has been squashed!

CONNECT - STORE RENTAL PRICING MISSING FROM ANALYSIS
We discovered a bug that caused store rental prices not to show up on the pricing analysis for titles available to rent in store. We have fixed the issue and store rental prices are now showing as expected.
COLLECT - NEW LINK TO FACULTY WALKTHROUGH
We have added an option to Collect for Catalog Admins and Reviewers that will take you to the faculty walkthrough screen of a specific course. Click on the Actions button next to the course and you will discover this new link!
COLLECT - UPDATED ADVANCED FILTER OPTIONS
A new option to filter courses to only those with a submitter has been added to the Advanced Filters option. In addition we added the ability to “Clear All Filters” to the Advanced Filters screen!

COMPETE - FIXED BUYBACK OFFER DATA FEED
We discovered that only a subset of buyback offers were appearing over our data feed, resulting in the Online Price being marked “N/A” in error. The data feed is now returning all the titles we expect, resulting in far fewer no marketplace data “N/A”s.

COMPETE - REFINE DATE PARAMETERS FOR DYNAMIC RENTAL
As much as we would love the ability to travel back in time, rental scanning is the way of the future! Rental return dates can now only be entered for dates in the future (no dates in the past).
COLLECT - UPDATED FAILED_SECTIONS REPORT TO BE MORE COMPREHENSIVE
In very specific circumstances, for some Nebraska users, sections that failed to push were not logged correctly. We now have better error reporting to help us identify those sections and they will now be included on the failed_sections.csv report.
COLLECT - DESIGN ELEMENTS OVERLAPPED ON NAVIGATION HEADER
We fixed a design bug that allowed certain design elements to flow onto the top level navigation menu.
COLLECT - REMOVED A NON-FUNCTIONAL TEST EMAIL OPTION
We previously told users they had the option to send a test of their “Bulletin Board Text”, the template that appears at the bottom of all Collect emails. However, this test email was never sent out of the Collect system. Because all other test emails will contain the bulletin board text, and because it was non-functional, we removed it from the test email dropdown.

COMPETE - WE NOW DISPLAY FULL ADDRESS IN BIN AND HOLD MANAGEMENT
We previously displayed a shortened version of your address on the Bin and Hold Management page. We now display the full address allowing you to verify we’ve got the correct address at a glance.
COLLECT - PROFESSORS CAN NOW BE REQUIRED TO ACKNOWLEDGE CUSTOM QUESTIONS IN PROFESSOR WALKTHROUGH
You now have the option of making any customizable question on the “Finalize and Submit” screen a required field - that is, users must check the box to acknowledge that they agree to the question. This is particularly useful if your professors are required to research their course materials for affordability prior to submitting adoptions.
COLLECT - IMPORT TIMING IMPROVEMENT
We previously ran a user’s term imports all at once, which in rare cases caused terms to not fully import. We now space your term imports so they have the time to fully complete.

When in Firefox, users in the Faculty Walkthrough would see buttons that were not aligned under Add New Materials > Add Additional Course Materials. This has been fixed.
COLLECT - NOW SAVING HISTORICAL CATALOG AFFORDABILITY SCORES
Affordability scores will now be stored at the time that a term is made uneditable so that they can be compared side by side to scores from other terms. In time this will allow for a deeper analysis of the effectiveness of efforts to make course materials more affordable.

COMPETE - BETTER HANDLING OF LATE SHIPMENTS FROM FSS SELLERS
Occasionally books we were not expecting to arrive from sellers eventually made their way to our warehouse. We have now built in better safeguards so those books we flag as “not coming to store” will not be sent, helping prevent over ordering.
COMPETE - ADDED FILENAME TO RENTAL REBATE IMPORT
We made it easier to match the correct rebate partner to their import! We will now display your import file’s name in the Rebate Import window so you can be sure you are selecting the correct vendor.
CONNECT - UPDATED THE INFORMATION COMPETE RECEIVES FROM RATEX
In order for section and courses data to display properly for use in Connect, we had to update the way we implement data received from our API with RATEX. That data now flows into and displays in Connect!

Connect now allows you to add a margin on top of the publisher cost for IA materials. That way you can better evaluate which items/prices truly make sense and students are billed for amounts that include the bookstore margin.

COLLECT - INCREASED MAXIMUM FILE SIZE ALLOWED IN SFTP IMPORTS
In some cases, Collect users would give us files too large to be imported into Collect. We have increased the maximum packet size allowed to account for these larger files.
COMPARE - NEW FIELDS ADDED TO BOOK DESCRIPTION
We’ve added two new fields to the book description on Compare. When available, each book will now display COPYRIGHT and EDITION.
COMPETE - FIXED PRINTABLE ACTIVITY REPORT ON THE DASHBOARD
We fixed a bug that was preventing the Activity Report from loading properly from the Dashboard.
COMPETE - CREATED AN IMPORT PAGE FOR BUYBACK FILES
Buyback files can now be loaded from “Buyback Imports” page. You can access the import page from the BUYBACK header in the top level navigation bar and load your file just like you would a sourcing wantlist.

We fixed a bug that caused an error when users tried to generate Compare QR codes in the Compete interface. This has been fixed.
COMPARE - REDSHELF/SEQUOIA INTEGRATION SUPPORT
Redshelf launched a brand new integration with Sequoia allowing stores to sell ebook items directly through their native POS. We have updated our Sequoia integration to support this new feature. For stores who have the Redshelf integration and use Compare, those eBook items now show as from the store and are transferred directly to the store’s checkout page when a student chooses one!

COLLECT - MASS RELEASE OF COLLECT VERSION 2!
After months of testing we are happy to announce that the Collect "Faculty Walkthrough" Version 2.0 has been rolled out to all clients!! This release streamlines the faculty walkthrough portion of Collect and gives you the option to enable Faculty facing affordability scores. COMPETE/COMPARE - UPGRADED RAILS
Another large scale project was completed this week: Rails, the underlying framework Compete and Compare are built on, was upgraded from Version 3 to Version 4.
COMPETE - PASSWORD RESET FIXED
We fixed a bug where attempting to use the “reset your password” feature resulted in an error message. This has been fixed and password reset functionality is restored.

COLLECT - SECTION LEVEL DUPLICATE/NOT OFFERED TAG NOW DISPLAYED
We resolved an issue that caused “Duplicate/Not Offered” tags not to display when all sections within a course were marked as such.
COLLECT - AFFORDABILITY EXPORT NOW RESPECTS DEPARTMENT FILTER
We recently added a department level filter to the “Affordability Page” in Collect. However, when exporting from that page, you would get all items and not just the filtered ones. We have fixed this so that the export will now respect the filters on that page.
COMPETE - TITLE COLOR TOO FAINT IN DYNAMIC RENTAL SCAN MODE (FULL SCREEN)
We fixed an issue related to the color of the title of the scanned item becoming too faint when using Dynamic Rental’s scan mode in “Full-Screen.”
COMPETE - RENTAL SHIPMENTS REPORT NOW GENERATED AS A MONTHLY REPORT
Previously, in order to download your rental shipments report you’d have to enter a date range covering the dates the items were received at our warehouse. We now allow you to select a month which will directly correspond with monthly Verba Marketplace rebate checks. There is also a short explanation on how to process the report available in the Shipments Report modal.

COMPETE - DASHBOARD RENTAL “UP FROM PRIMARY” STAT
In some cases we were underreporting the “Up From Primary” statistic on the dashboard. This has been fixed.
COLLECT - BROADENED DURATION FOR CURRENT TERM FOR BOOKLOG STORES
Previously, we changed a term from current to historical 30 days past the Start of Sales Date (in Booklog’s Academic Term). One of the side effects of a term moving from current to historical is that it no longer imports automatically into Collect as current. Because in many cases this was too short a time frame, we increased it to 120 days.
COLLECT - ADDED A DEPARTMENT FILTER TO THE AFFORDABILITY PAGE
We added a drop down menu to the affordability page to give you the option to compare and export the affordability score by department.
COMPETE - FIXED A DISPLAY ISSUE WITH THE TOOLTIPS IN DYNAMIC PRICING
The tooltips in the Dynamic Pricing interface were spilling off the page when viewed. We fixed it so that they would display properly and be completely visible.

COMPETE - LATE SHIPPED FULL-SERVICE SOURCING ITEMS
Very rarely items ordered through Full-Service Sourcing were being shipped beyond the expected delivery timeframe. We have identified and resolved the issue in the code allowing for this to happen, so all Full-Service Sourcing items will now be delivered within a reasonable amount of time from the order date.
COMPETE - DYNAMIC PRICING PENCIL ICON DESIGN ISSUE
We resolved a design issue causing the pencil icons in Dynamic Pricing not to render properly. The fix was purely cosmetic, but we are a fan of things looking pretty so we fixed it!

COMPETE - FIXED ACCESS ISSUE TO THE RENTAL SHARE REPORT
The URL generated from the “Share Report” button in Dynamic Rental required a Compete login and password. We fixed this so you can share this report with anyone by providing them the URL.
COMPARE - FIXED DISCLAIMER DISPLAY ON WINDOWS 7/FIREFOX
The disclaimer window had a design bug when viewed on a Windows 7 computer on Firefox. We have fixed the design bug and the disclaimer window looks as it should!
COLLECT - OCCASIONAL OUTBOUND COLLECT EMAILS BEING BLOCKED
We resolved a mail server issue that occasionally caused outbound Collect emails to not be sent. Email traffic from Collect is now flowing as expected.
COMPARE - OLD PRICING BEING SENT TO NEBRASKA CHECKOUTS, AND ITEMS DROPPING FROM CARTS
In an effort to reduce strain on the WebPRISM API, we briefly took out some of our regular price logging. Without recent logging, some of the books we sent to checkout had incorrect pricing, or dropped from the Nebraska checkout. We quickly reinstated logging, which corrected the problem.
COMPETE - ADDED MESSAGE IN DYNAMIC RENTAL ABOUT WHEN YOU CAN CHANGE ALLOCATION PERCENTAGE
It was not clear that in Dynamic Rental’s Scan Mode that you cannot change the Primary Minimum Allocation percentage. We added a tooltip to make this explicit.

COMPETE - FIXED ISSUE WITH SEARCHING FOR ITEMS IN DYNAMIC RENTAL
We discovered and fixed an issue that affected the searching for items after the process of scanning rentals in had begun. When attempting to search for ISBN’s that had been scanned and were exceptions, the search would never return results. The search will now return results regardless of item status.
COMPARE - FIXED CURRENCY DISPLAY ISSUE
Some vendor prices were incorrectly being displayed on Compare as GBP. We fixed those prices to display in US dollars.
1/7/16 - COMPETE/COMPARE SERVICE OUTAGE
Earlier today we experienced an outage of both our Compete and Compare products. This is unacceptable at any time of year and especially so when many stores are in the full swing of rush. A detailed description of what happened, how we fixed it, and the concrete steps we are taking to prevent something similar from happening in the future can be found below.

Today (2016/01/07) we experienced 1 hour 48 minutes of downtime (09:49 - 11:27) on Compete and Compare, resulting from a combination of bad/cyclical jobs, a programming error, and database overload.
Our immediate fix was to upgrade our main database and restart all servers.
At approximately 9:30AM PT today we got an alert that Verba Compete and Compare were suffering performance degradation. 7 minutes later our primary database server "db1" became nearly unresponsive as its CPU was at 100%.
At about the same time (in the window 9:15-9:30) our connection to Webprism API started timing out ("stuck open"), which we had addressed the day before during a different, NBC-centered outage.
At first the focus was on the Nebraska API, but our alerts persisted, which is when we noticed that traffic overall had slowed to a crawl and our database was unresponsive.
-- Unfortunately this is the first time we saw that db1 was suffering from overload, as its alert was buried amongst many alerts on Compete and Compare being down.
At 11:17am after exhausting other options (like turning off our background processing entirely and hot-fixing a slow code path) we decided to initiate a failover on our database to a twice-larger computer, doubling the number of CPUs and memory.
At 11:25am failover completed and we started rotating our front-end servers back into the cluster.
At 11:30am, since we had dropped all of our outstanding connections to Webprism, Webprism's response times went back to baseline.
At 11:37am web traffic started climbing back to previous levels.
At 11:40am background workers started processing again.
12:00pm All clear.
Occasionally we have a "poison job" that will use up our system resources. Unfortunately there is no simple fix for this. There are a few hard fixes though:
There is a situation in which our API with Nebraska may cause a "stampeding herd" problem. If we trigger the condition in which all of their requests start timing out, and all requests time out at the same time, we will retry those same requests up to 10 times.
We are addressing this in a code fix as we write this, slated for release tomorrow morning. This will include tests to prove that we can prevent the stampeding herd.
This particular code path was written before our current code review practices. Finding the best way to test against 3rd party APIs is an ongoing area of research both inside our company and in the programming industry at large.
Our database became unresponsive, holding its CPU to 100%. We’re still researching why this happened.
Failure injection and load testing may expose the conditions that lead to this particular failure.
We have seen this behavior from Amazon Web Services’ database service from time to time, and it may be unrelated to our Development work.
We missed the db1 CPU error because the deluge of alerts. There is work to be done in this area like more regular fire drills, alert auditing, and failure injection to make sure our services are resilient against any sort of failure.

COMPETE - CHANGED “CAD” DESIGNATION THROUGHOUT COMPETE TO “USD”
For Canadian clients, the dollar amounts throughout Compete are in USD. For that reason we removed the “CAD” currency designation to more accurately reflect there has been no conversion applied. This does not impact Compare, where the CAD designation, when present, is accurate.
COMPETE - NEW DEADLINE FOR VERBA MARKETPLACE

COLLECT - FIXED WHITESPACE ISSUE WITH COURSE DISPLAY
We fixed a data issue where the course name from PRISM came over with extra spaces at the end of the Course, which was causing a display issue on the emails that professors received. There was a blank space after the course that made it look like data was missing. This only affected PRISM integration clients.
COMPARE - FIXED A BUG BLOCKING EBOOKS FROM DISPLAYING ON COMPARE
Ebooks were not appearing on Compare for some eRATEX clients. We put in a fix that made them available again.
COMPETE - ADDED CATALOG NAME TO THE RENTAL CONSOLE
The name of your active catalog is now displayed prominently in the center of the Rental Console, making it easier to identify which catalog your looking at before making any changes.
COMPETE - FIXED THE DYNAMIC RENTAL SHARE REPORT
We fixed a bug that disabled the report for anyone not logged into Compete. Now the share report is accessible to anyone with the URL.

COMPETE - RESOLVED ISSUE WITH TERM TYPE SELECTION ON DASHBOARD
We resolved an issue for first time visitors of the new Dashboard where the video and academic calendar selection window failed to open allowing users to specify their term type. The window now pops up as expected!
COMPETE - ADDED A TOOLTIP TO THE FREIGHT SHIP MODAL
To reduce confusion about why Valorebooks is listed as the destination/billing address for Verba Marketplace freight shipments, we added a tooltip to explain! In case you’re curious about this, click the question mark in the freight shipment modal.
COMPARE - FIXED RARE INSTANCES WHERE AMAZON RENTAL OFFERS CAUSED NO AMAZON OFFERS TO POPULATE
Occasionally we were receiving multiple Amazon rental offers, causing no offers to populate on Compare sites with the Amazon Affiliate activated. Amazon offers, both used and rental, now populate more reliably.
COLLECT - RESOLVED DUPLICATE ISBNs LISTED IN ADMIN AFFORDABILITY PAGE
Occasionally when searching for a books on the Affordability page the results would be duplicated. We fixed a database issue and now one of each ISBN result is shown!
COMPARE - AMAZON RENTAL OFFERS SHOW BY DEFAULT
If you have Amazon turned on as a Retail Affiliate, or plan to in the future, please note rental offers will be enabled by default, but can be toggled off in settings. Customers will now see those rental offers, when they exist, in addition to new and used offers in Compare.
COMPETE - CLICKING “SETTINGS” IN DYNAMIC RENTAL’S PRE-RENTAL MODE ALLOWED YOU TO GO TO PRE-RETURN SETTINGS

Occasionally “undone” price changes in Dynamic Pricing were being sent to backoffice systems as $0.00 instead of being left out of push batches completely. We resolved the issue so those are no longer included when pricing batches are pushed!
COMPETE - FIXED RARE FULL-SERVICE SOURCING ORDERING BUG
We previously allowed orders to go through with minor deviations in price, both above and below the average as quoted in the interface (to facilitate the common seller practice of periodic slight changes in price). Now, we only allow price decreases to go through - any increase in price is cancelled from your order.
COMPETE - FREIGHT SHIPPING NOW AVAILABLE IN DYNAMIC RENTAL FOR VERBA MARKETPLACE SHIPMENTS

It was hard to tell what catalog was selected when the name was too long to display in the navigation menu bar. We now expose the selected full catalog name in the catalog dropdown.

When importing a want list into Verba sourcing, a 5 minute countdown starts to allow the system to match up the best available offers with your wantlist. We fixed a bug where the Self-Service countdown would get stuck on a number and you’d have to refresh the page to see how many seconds were left.
COLLECT - FIXED STYLING OF HTML COURSE FILES
We fixed a bug that caused the styling of the HTML export to appear cluttered and disorganized. The pages now look much cleaner and easier to read.
COMPARE - RATEX CAMPUSES SORT NUMERICALLY
For those RATEX stores using the campus selector on Compare, we were not sorting them in numerical order. We are now sorting campuses based on their numerical identifier.
COMPARE - FIXED DISCLAIMER PAGE FORMAT ON IE AND FIREFOX
We fixed a bug, in Firefox and Internet Explorer, where the bottom of the disclaimer was being cut off on some longer messages.

We added a new Advanced Filter option that allows you to see a list of courses that exist in Collect but are not included in your backoffice. This is handy because you can get a list of these courses in which the “push” functionality will not work and get them added to your backoffice.

COLLECT - CLEAN UP FIELD LENGTH RESTRICTIONS FOR BOOKLOG EXPORTS
Some of the field length limits were not being respected in the adoption export from Collect, causing the import into Booklog to fail. We scrubbed through the export to ensure that we were truncating any information that was longer than what each field in Booklog could hold.
COMPETE - UPDATED DYNAMIC PRICING HUD TO WORK WITH LATEST VERSION OF CHROME
The newest version of Chrome broke the Heads Up Display such that it would disappear when the page was scrolled down. We updated our tools to ensure that the HUD remains fixed on the screen.

We fixed an issue that occasionally caused the authors listed on title cards to be displayed in the wrong order.
COLLECT - IMPROVED SORT ON COURSES PAGE
We fixed an issue that caused courses to be sorted incorrectly on the Courses page under certain conditions (such as manually creating the course in Collect, or importing courses into Collect from multiple sources). Now all courses sort alphanumerically based on department and course number.

We used to average each ISBN's cost based on the Verba ID number, leading to the same ISBN being listed multiple times on the detail invoices. Now, for every invoice assigned, there will be one cost and quantity per ISBN.

We fixed a bug where stores weren’t able to enter a Minimum Affiliate Rental Time Period in Catalog-Specific Settings. Now, if a store enters a number in this field they can limit the rentals displayed on their Compare site to those with a rental length longer than the specified number of days.

Verba Support now has the ability to edit whether or not a user is notified of a new course assignment in Collect. The default is to check the “Notify User of New Duty” which can now be changed to unchecked.
