NOW, SORT OUT YOUR GEAR AND MIN/MAX THOSE STATS... KINDA

Welcome to Holy Priest, where the rules are made up and the stats don’t matter. Well we lied about the rules… there are a few:

Leech/Avoidance > Int > Mastery > Crit > Haste > Vers > Speed

1. Equip 4pc T21, appropriate trinkets and legendaries, then equip HIGHEST ITEM LEVEL GEAR

2. Use your Enchants, Gems, Neck and Rings to balance your stats out using the below table as a rough guide.

3. Your neck enchant should be Mark of the Ancient Priestess.

4. Remember that your haste can be altered slightly to fit your needs. Many players are comfortable within large ranges of haste.

5. If you have more or less than the below table don’t panic, you’ll be just fine! We promise.

FINALLY, PICK THE RIGHT TALENTS

View on the WowHead Talent Calculator

Enlightenment

This talent allows us to restore our mana faster! More mana = more healing! The other two talents are generally pretty lackluster.

Angelic Feather

Angelic Feather gives a 5 second sprint with 3 charges. There is a great macro to cast it on yourself here

Cosmic Ripple

Heals 5 allies whenever one of your holy words comes off CD. This happens passively and does not cost any mana, pretty great for raiding!

CC Talents

All 3 of these talents can have their uses in raiding, which will depend on the encounter. They will not make any difference in your healing.

Binding Heal

Binding Heal targets 3 players: Your target, yourself, and one random injured ally. It’s cheap and reduces the CD on both of our Holy Words. With Tier 21 it is currently our best talent in this row. Subject to change!

Benediction/Halo

  1. Use Benediction if you are talented into Holy Word: Salvation
  2. Use Halo otherwise.

SO HARD TO CHOOSE

  1. Salvation: Can currently have it’s long CD reduced by our T20 and The Alabaster Lady. Play with it on the pre-patch while you can!
  2. Light of the Naaru: A very good choice if you want to use a passive.
  3. Apotheosis: Still good, but not as good as the other two.

NOW WHAT? HEALTH BAR WHACK-A-MOLE TIME. MEET YOUR HAMMERS

Often: Holy Word: Sanctify and Holy Word: Serenity are both very important for our HPS. Use them on cooldown as long as they can do their job without much overhealing.

Often: Halo is very mana efficient and should be cast on cooldown as long as there is raid-wide damage to heal up.

Always: Prayer of Mending is a very cheap, efficient and is a smart heal! Make sure you cast it on cooldown on somebody who will be taking damage (even if talented into Binding Heal) Make a weakaura that reminds you! You can apply it on the tanks before pulling.

Low Damage Filler: Binding Heal is a great, cheap filler for low incoming damage. Be aware that it reduces the CD for both of your Holy Words, so you need to keep track of the CD of both when using Binding Heal.

Aoe: Prayer of Healing is our go-to AoE filler spell. It will heal your target and their 4 closest allies. Make sure you use it when it can heal 3 or more targets. Note: With tier 21 you want to alternate between using Binding Heal and Prayer of Healing during high damage points - this does more healing for less mana!

Single Target: On the flip side, Heal and Flash Heal are our go-to healing spells for single target healing. Use Heal if you have the time, and Flash Heal if it is an emergency and that player needs healing NOW. Note that with Binding Heal you don’t need to use Heal very often, if at all. Many people replace Heal with Binding Heal on their bars. Flash heal is still used for emergency healing over Binding Heal.

Never: Renew is our least efficient spell, and should only be cast while moving and if no other instant cast spells are up. It does not need to be casted prepull, or kept up on tanks.

NEED BIGGER HAMMERS?

Raid Cooldown: Divine Hymn

A powerful cooldown that does raid wide healing. It also increases all healing done to your raid by 10%. Use it when the raid is at very low health.

Raid Cooldown: Holy Word: Salvation

We know everyone will want to play with the shiny new toy! Remember a few things: Salvation’s CD depends on how much you cast your holy words. Consider it a 4-6 minute CD (Less than that with T20 and TAL). Also keep in mind that it has an initial heal, but it also gives everyone Prayer of Mending and Renew. Great for that hard hitting raid-wide damage, but also great for ticking damage afterwards!

External Cooldown: Guardian Spirit

A single target external with a long cooldown. It increases all healing done to the target and will save them from death as long as they don’t take damage worth more than twice their max health

Personal Cooldown: Desperate Prayer

Our personal cooldown. Not great but not awful either. There is a talent that can make it reset depending on the damage that you take.

Utility: Symbol of Hope

Restores 2% of missing mana for 6 seconds. This is a channeled cast. Because it restores missing mana, you get more out of it if you cast it late into the fight.

SO WHAT’S THE BIG SECRET TO AWESOME HPS?

Holy Priests don’t have many instant casts, so learning the encounters and in particular your guilds specific strats is one of the best ways to increase your HPS. Reducing your movement during a fight and understanding when to use your stronger healing abilities is key to doing the most effective healing possible. Try to pay attention to boss mechanics to make the most of your Holy Word: Sanctify and Prayer of Healing casts in particular, while also keeping Prayer of Mending on cooldown as much as possible.
