News

Episode Discussion:  “Rarity” - In the basement of the Carousel Boutique, plastic mannequins begin to attack Rarity. A mysterious stallion known as "the Doctor" rescues her and they flee the building. The next day Rarity and Applejack visit a colt named Tinfoil Chapeau who runs a conspiracy theory magazine about the stallion fitting the Doctor's description who has appeared throughout history. While Rarity is talking to Tinfoil, Applejack is kidnapped and replaced by a plastic duplicate. Rarity meets the Doctor again where he reveals Applejack to be an Auton and he and Rarity locate the Shadow Consciousness which controls the Autons: the Canterlot Eye. At this point, Autons come alive everywhere (mainly mannequins), and start attacking ponies. Rarity saves the Doctor, Applejack, and many others the Autons had been attacking. She decides against traveling with the Doctor through time and space in his TARDIS. He shrugs, and before the end of the episode a particular gray pegasus mare is seen joining him as the TARDIS disappears.

Greetings to you all at Bronyville. I feel it's time for another e-mail, so lets get right to it. By now, most of the fire kindled by the newly-released Equestria Girls trailer should have died down and things are back to somewhat normal, and while it was rather entertaining to watch the Internet lose their minds once again, eventually, the complaints, while some valid, got to be too tiring to deal with, so I went off and did other stuff. After a few days, I decided to check what the status of the fire was, and I kept noticing one particular complaint that I couldn't really wrap my head around me, so allow me to elaborate, and maybe you can provide some insight.

There seems to be some rather strong discontent with the blue-haired individual seen for only one second and whom Twilight embraces briefly. People seem to be up in arms as this could mean a potential love interest, which I see a lot of fans saying this is a rather bad thing. However, my issue is that people are jumping to the conclusion that he will be a love interest, but there's very little evidence to suggest it. The hug doesn't really mean anything, since he was taken aback by it, and it doesn't any different from what I would do to friends if they had helped me with something. I feel that people are already believing it to take that route because that would be standard for a girl-centric high school setting, but who knows? This might break tradition, but I'm not well-versed in this kind of show (last show I watched with a high school setting was My Life as a Teenage Robot, which was very enjoyable). Never thought a fandom who would have no problem shipping two characters who appear on screen at the same time for a nanosecond would have a different opinion for a pairing with slightly more meat to it. Am I just a little naive due to my inexperience with this genre, or am I right to groan that people are jumping the gun once again? Would the opinion be the same if the same thing occurred back in Equestrian and in their pony forms?

Anyway, sorry for the wall of text. I just wanted to get your opinion on the matter. Keep up the excellent work.

---Optional section---

Favorite characters are Rarity and Sweetie Belle.

Favorite episode is Ponyville Confidential (I could write a whole email explaining why, but that's for another time)

Favorite fic is Arrow 18 Mission Log: Lone Ranger (already suggested in an earlier episode)

Heya Apple Cider, Chef Sandy, and your stable of guest ponies!

I HAD to let you all know of the TERROR I just saw! My husband & I went to see "The Great Gatsby" for our date tonight. In the pre-trailer trailers - a.k.a. commercials- THERE WAS A FULL ON EQUESTRIA GIRLS COMMERCIAL! Just saying...

While I'm being open -well- tolerant, it was so so weird to see this concept- kinda "our ponies", but kinda not... Only saving grace was getting to see the ponies - in pony form - on a big screen.

Ok, thanks!

*Y'all have read out two of my emails thus far and it's been awesome each time! Thanks!

BP= Twily

EP= Still sticking with "Read it and Weep" My slippers!

*Random- Tracked down Polar Bear Café. LOL! Not an anime chick (manga yes, oddly) but this is hilarious.

Greetings, Mr. Cider and Mr. Sandy!

I've been a listener of Bronyville for over an year and a half now and, as a podcaster myself, have to say I'm impressed with the amount of work you guys have put to the show for over two years. It's a really high quality podcast, and although I can't listen to every episode every week, it certainly has a constant spot in my iPod.

Anyway, I come here to propose a topic for a future episode: The Brazilian brony community. I'm one of the founders and administrators of "Curitibronies", the brony group in Curitiba, where the second national meetup will occur in July. I would gladly join you guys to share some of the story surrounding Curitibronies' creation, especially since it happened precisely because of a Bronyville episode. And don't worry, my English is really good! :P

I don't know how you guys choose what topics to talk about, but I hope you'll at least think about it a little and talk to me if you like the idea.

Pony on,

Renan "Naner" Greca

Greetings Bronyvillians.

I've been wanting to contribute to the fandom for a while but have the classic problem of not knowing what to do. Visual artists, musicians, and coders all have fairly straight forward direction for contributions; however, my craft is not exactly something people associate with the arts. I'm one of your IEEE Bronies (in fact tomorrow is my graduation ceremony from the associates program in the science of Electrical Engineering Technology, woo hoo!). I could code to contribute to a game or application, but I really want to make something physical. The best idea I've come up with so far was making a custom pony walk and talk, but that seems kind of lame after working on building an EEG. I want to do something with more finesse (plus I don't feel I could adequately do that without either an unsightly mess outside it, or rather expensive resources). I want to share with the fandom that engineers aren't just nerds (or a class in TF2), but are creative too!

Love your show, and AC is right:Twilight is best pony. Long live nerd princess!

Sincerely

Circuit Spark

'Ello 'ello to Apple Cider, Chef Sandy, Starry Night, M and any mah-valous guests you may have on today!  Also, hey to P1K if you're listening, which I'm sure you are.

I've been a fan of your wonderful program since July 2011, not even a few days after I became a certifiable brony.  Congrats on 100 episodes, even if the benchmark episode released in... an interesting shape.  I know it's only required for the guests to say this but I will anyway:  I was born a Pinkie man (deal with it Chef and Starry) and Ponyville Confidential is the best time I've ever had watching an episode, which was at the SoCal Bronies March Mare-a-Thon in Anaheim.  It's the meet that spawned this pic:  http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/.a/6a00d8341c630a53ef01676567680a970b-pi

This message deals with the recent reaction to EQLA's VA panel and the Equestria Girls trailer.  Despite this and just about any outcry the community may put out there I just tell myself what Apple Cider has consistently said on Bronyville:  "It's just a show.  I should really relax."

I'm only here to have fun with people and enjoy some candy colored ponies, perhaps while promoting some good morals that the world desperately needs.  I'll enjoy things fans create and even contribute for the fun of it.  I'll enjoy attending meets (or even hosting a few) because I've made some great friends through MLP groups.  I'll happily wear my shirts, whether on purpose or because it's my only clean one, and I'll be quick to compliment someone on their pony shirt.  I'll even enjoy the neat things the cast and crew have to say on Twitter.  But there's really no need to make it anything more than that.

Though it's a significant part of my current lifestyle, I do think some people need to get back to that root point:  Are you ultimately having fun watching MLP and meeting fans?  While it is a notable thing that we have something in girl-focused entertainment that isn't face-meltingly terrible, the primary drive for me is still fun and friends.  Expecting anything else is simply expecting too much.

Side-Comment on Equestria Goils, since Meghan McCarthy mentioned it has no bearing on the "mane" show it could only go two ways:  Either it's a fun hour-plus or it just goes on to be a line of toys I never buy.  At any rate, I'm willing to give DHX the benefit of the doubt until I can see and hear the final product, and there's really no use in discussing it until then.

Stay classy, guys, and thanks for getting me through various trips to and from school.

Ponies and Friendship,

Peanut B. Crunch

Hello Bronyville,

I've been listening for a while now and finally decided to e-mail you. I listen to y'all during work and it helps the day fly by. First off Trixe is best pony, Chrysalis is best bug ...horse...thing, and Super Cider Sque...you know the rest is favorite episode.

I live in Dallas and I'm max excited for SandyCon. I've got my Sandy cosplay almost finished and it's gonna be a lot of fun in the gaming room beating people at Chef Sandy: Fighting is Loose Cannon. But enough bad jokes. I work at a local craft brewery here in north Dallas(Lakewood Brewing Co) and would love to share. I don't make music or art but I do help make good beer. If it's alright with y'all I would be honored to bring you two some of our beers. Obviously not open to every attendee, I don't want to start a fire, just staff and guests. Only if it's ok with the loose cannon. And if it's a thing that can't happen then I'd love to just buy you guys a drink as thanks for what y'all do.

Thanks for reading my e-mail and always remember.

Dear Princess Celestia,

We sure are a passionate bunch, aren’t we? I mean sometimes we get our jimmies rustled. And sometimes it’s for legitimate reasons. Other times it’s surprising how fast a spike turns into a roaring fire and then goes out just as fast. This week we brought in so many friends! Pixelkitties, Bob, Xyro, Spazz, and Foalpapers all join us to talk much about the Equestria Girls trailer and the resulting backlash. Add to this other news, fic, and cool things and you have a jam packed show. Enjoy!
