Activity 3.4: Make a Judgment

Loyalist (American Revolution)

"Tory Refugees on their way to Canada" by Howard Pyle (Tory is a political name for Loyalists.)

You have now gathered all of your information about Patriots and Loyalists. In this activity, you will draw conclusions about the information you have gathered.

Benchmark:

5.4.1.2.1: Pose questions about a topic in history, examine a variety of sources related to the questions, interpret findings and use evidence to draw conclusions that address the questions.

Learning Target:

I can...interpret my findings by using evidence to draw conclusions.

Essential Question:

How do you use the method of inquiry to draw conclusions about a topic in history?

To complete Activity 3.4 please follow the steps below:

STEP 1:

Interpret your findings, and use evidence to draw conclusions.

Go through your evidence and ask yourself these questions:

→ If yes, then move to the next question.

→ If no, then go back to Activity 3.3 and gather more evidence.

→ If yes, then there might be bias. Check both sources for signs of biased writing. Identify the bias.

→ If no, then move to the next question.

→ Paraphrase the information into your own words so it is easier to understand.

→ Prove the answer by supplying evidence and reasoning to your conclusion.

Open your original saved document. Add to the document by filling out the “My Conclusion and Evidence” row in the Historical Inquiry: Patriot or Loyalists document. Be sure to write in complete sentences, and support your answer with evidence.
