Looking for ways to be involved with the YLC’s Immigrant Outreach Committee while also assisting members of your local Northern Virginia community?  Then this opportunity is for you...

Join members of the Immigrant Outreach Committee and local Northern Virginia community one Saturday per month to help eligible immigrants in Northern Virginia to apply for their citizenship by volunteering at Hogar Immigrant Services’ Monthly Naturalization Workshop!  This day-long workshop will walk applicants through the process of eligibility screening, meeting with a pro-bono attorney, and packaging the application for mailing through Hogar Immigrant Services Legal Services office.  Attorney volunteers can help with legal review by meeting with applicants one-on-one to review their case, or with registering applicants, interviewing clients to fill out application and fee waivers, and managing logistics such as workshop flow.  NO naturalization experience nor foreign language skills are required, which means that any Virginia-barred attorney could help assist applicants!  A two- hour training will be provided the morning of the clinic!

About the Immigrant Outreach Committee

The Immigrant Outreach Committee, on behalf of the Virginia State Bar Young Lawyers Conference, designs projects with the objectives to (1) educate members of the bar regarding the deportation ramifications of criminal convictions on immigrants, and (2) reach out to Northern Virginia’s immigrant population.  To learn more, please visit our page on the Virginia State Bar website at http://www.vsb.org/site/conferences/ylc/immigrant-outreach.
