Equipment: a multimedia projector, a computer, a screen, books, an audio player, handouts.

Lesson plan

I. The beginning of the lesson

1. Greeting     

T: Good morning, friends!

School is waiting

Can’t be late

Hurry! Hurry!

Half past eight

Out the door

And down the street

Then softly and quietly

Take your seat!

2. Warming up activities

T: Look at the blackboard, please. Read me a poem.

Ps:  I like to read  

  I like to play

  I like to study every day

  I like to run

  I like to play

  It is fun.

 I like to skip

  I like to jump

  I like to run about

  I like to play

  I like to sing

  I like to laugh and shout.

T: Do you like this poem?

     What is it about?

Ps: It is about our interests.

II. The main body of the lesson

1. Introduction the topic of the lesson

T: So, can you guess what we would be talking about in our today’s lesson? Look at the blackboard. Let’s open the word.

H -  we wear it on our heads;

O -  it`s a colour and a fruit;

B - you carry school thing in it;

B- you can ride on it in the yard;

I - it`s me;

E - it`s a very big animal;

S - we can see it only in winter;

P: The topic of our lesson is Hobbies and Interests.

2. The objectives of the lesson

T: You are right. Today we are going to speak about your free time and how to spend it, about activities you prefer.

At the end of the lesson everyone will be able to say:

T: As you see, we have a lot of work to do.

3. Vocabulary practice

T: Look at my pictures, listen to me and repeat. Try to guess their meaning.

T: Let’s find out how clever and active are you. Complete the wheel. Make up sentences using the words denoting different activities and the structures to be fond of, to be interested in.

T: Read, look at the pictures of exercise 5, page 60 and guess whose things are these. Explain your choice like in the example.

Example: I think this piano is Peter’s because he plays the piano.

P1: Peter is interested in music and plays the piano. He also likes sport.

P2: Polly has got a pet. She is fond of painting. Polly is interested in gardening.

T: You can read about children’s unusual hobbies in your books on the page 58. Let’s do it one by one and name the boys’ unusual hobbies.

I am Oleh Kryvoshapko. And I am at our School Hobby Fair today. We can learn a lot about likes and interests of our schoolchildren here.

The pupil of the 5th form, Petro Doroshenko, has got an unusual collection. He collects rocks. ‘Rocks are beautiful,’ says Petro. ‘Some of them have pretty colours. My smallest rock is the most interesting. It is from the Pacific Ocean.’

        Borys Ivanchyk, the pupil of the 8th form, has an interesting hobby: cartoon animation. His new cartoon is called Pencil Men. ‘Making Pencil Man is a lot of work,’ he says. “The cartoon has got 2000 drawings. Each one is just a little different. I use my camera to take a picture of each drawing. In the film the pictures move very quickly. That’s why Pencil Men looks like he is moving”. Borys is going to show his Pencil Men at school on Tuesday at 3 o’clock in the afternoon.

Many pupils of our school have interesting hobbies. Lara is 11 years old. She is fond of writing poems and painting pictures.

Tom is 15 years old and he has very interesting hobbies. He is interested in dancing,

designing Internet sites and playing piano.

Robert is 13 years old. His hobbies are playing football and reading detective stories. Our pupils also love different subjects. Tom is the best pupil at Maths. Lara is good at Art and Literature. And Robert is one of the best pupils at PE. Their hobbies help them study well.

6. Grammar practice.

T: Look at me and let’s revise the Present Simple Tense. It is a present  action .We can  find this tense with the next words: always, sometimes, never, often, every day, week…, on Monday…

When we make questions, we use Do and Does.
