Energy Forms in the Classroom

Objective

• I can find and identify forms of energy in my surroundings.

Materials

• 10 blank index cards per student
• Pencil

Directions

The first two steps are completed individually. The rest of the steps should be done with discussion in a small group of students.

• Move about the classroom and examine the types of energy you see in your classroom or outside the classroom window.
• Choose and record one energy type per card (10 cards total). Include a brief explanation of how the energy is being used.
• Share your energy cards with your group members. Explain what you saw.
• DIscuss the forms of energy you observed with your group members.
• Sort energy cards into the different energy forms. Keep in mind that you may not see all nine energy forms in your classroom environment.
• List the forms of energy you have found and the examples of those forms on the back of this sheet.
