Taubenstrasse 37

Pensionnat.

Sir,

Art, and the great masters of Art are universal: despite being unknown, I am taking the liberty to express my admiration for the splendid portrait of Prince Hohenlohe [4485] [might also refer to [5650]], which I have just seen at the Schulte salon.[1] I am deeply impressed by this masterpiece in terms of brushwork and likeness,

[Page 2]

by the highly distinguished composition worthy of a great master, such as yourself, Sir. This portrait of the illustrious and sympathetic Prince Chancellor is a “feast for the eye”.

A painter myself, I have had the opportunity to meet many artistic celebrities in Rome, in Madrid, and in Germany. I would be delighted, Sir, if you could have the extreme kindness

[Page 3]

to let me see other paintings by you, and to meet you in person. You belong to this proud and symbolic Nation, which fascinates me as much for its character and [illegible] as for its attractions. I belong a little to Hungary myself.

With my highest consideration and admiration,

Marie de Sásór-Bardzka

[1] As this letter is undated, it is unclear whether the author is referring to the exhibition held at the Galerie Schulte, Berlin in March 1899, or the exhibition at Galerie Schulte, Berlin in 1900; [4485] was exhibited at the former, and either [4485] or [5650] were exhibited at the latter.
