All about castles

Hi I’m Sophie and I'll be telling you things about castles - there are many types of castles like Newcastle Keep,Bamburgh castle,Prudhoe castle,Durham castle. Castles are very big though  

some castle have a moat, a moat is a little pond that goes around the castle sometimes there's even fish in the moat but they use a bridge to get across it.Some bridges are stone just for extra protection just incase it breaks. Castles always have a big tower and the tower helps keep enemies away from the castle because people would stand up on the tower and shoot enemies with bow and arrows and in cartoons  there would be guards guarding the door to keep the king or queen safe in the castle.

Knights are important because they are the ones who guard the king or queen but if enemies come the guards get their weapons and  get the enemies so that the king or the queen can be safe. Some knights are heavily armoured and they ride horses instead of running because if they ran they would be slow  because the  armour is too heavy to run with.

Durham castle was built in the 11th century it has a long great hall in 1837 the castle was donated but the castle was so big that it can fit loads of people in the castle. At Durham castle three windows were blocked up during the second world war to keep them safe from people who were trying to attack.

Some knights used their horses to joust each other but when they joust they use big swords which could be very dangerous to kids but they also used some shields to dodge the sword so they don't get hit. This was a sport in the olden days to because the king or queen couldn’t just watch tv because they weren’t invented.
