Project Title: A study of GEC (General Entertainment Channel) TV Channels of Maharashatra : Organizational Structure.
Brief Background of the research:
Since liberalization of Indian markets many foreign TV channels/companies have entered Indian market. TV and Advertising has become a huge Industry. Many young people have got the job opportunities in TV and advertising industry. India has 700 (approx) TV Channels and many more are going to start in future. The regional channels are increasing day by day. Advertisement happens to be the major source of income. Major Universities in India have also started courses in the discipline of Communication Studies or Mass Communication to educate the students. Universities have started these courses at both PG (Post-graduation) and UG (Under-graduation) levels. Most of the books referred by the students are written by the foreign authors and are written in context of foreign channels. There are very few books that are written with reference to India context or regional context.
TV industry in developed countries is very different then the Indian Industry. More ever because of fast change in the technology, the changes could be seen in the functioning of the TV industry. There is an urgent need to develop the research oriented study material in Indian context. Understanding the functioning of the Indian TV channels and the process of starting the channel is very crucial in order to develop holistic perspective about the media industry. This research intended to develop a study/reference material for the media students about the functioning of TV channel. The study was conducted for both fiction and non-fiction channels.
