SIGN 101: American Sign Language I

American Sign Language (ASL) is a visual-gestural-spatial language used by the majority of deaf individuals in the United States and Canada. ASL is NOT English, nor is it a system of English. It is a distinct language used by a group of people who share a common community. By enrolling in SIGN 101, students will acquire basic ASL vocabulary and grammatical structures. Students will also be exposed to American Deaf Culture.
The total cost for this class is $40.00. After paying the fee you will receive a code to log in to your account and get started learning ASL! At the end of this class you will be able to have a conversation with a Deaf or HOH (Hard of Hearing) person.

Required Text
There is no required text for this class. All materials will be located on the website that will be used throughout the entire class. www.asldeafined.com
You will each be given a specific code to log in and create an account which is good for one year, after the year is up you can choose to continue using your account which is only an additional $12 per year.

Quizzes and Exams
Quizzes will be held at the end of EACH unit. Our quizzes and exams will be a recorded video that you will watch and then type in the correct word for each sign.
Homework
It is important that you look over all the material in each unit, and watch the videos that are sent with each unit. You will need these videos to complete the homework. Completing homework is crucial as it provides additional support and practice from what is learned.
