NoLight: Black Screen Camera – Privacy Policy

This privacy policy applies to NoLight: Black Screen Camera (hereby referred to as the "Application") for iOS devices, created by Sang Cao (hereby referred to as the "Service Provider"). This service is intended for use "AS IS."

1. Our Privacy Approach: Local-First by Design

NoLight is designed with your privacy as a core principle. The Application does not transmit your recordings, personal data, or browsing activity to external servers. All data is stored locally on your device only.

Key principles:

No cloud storage: Recordings and workspace data never leave your device
No analytics: We do not track your usage, behavior, or activity
No advertising: The Application does not collect data for advertising purposes
No network dependency: Core recording functionality works completely offline
No third-party data sharing: Your data is not sold, traded, or shared with advertisers or data brokers

2. What Information Does the Application Collect?

NoLight collects minimal information, only what is necessary for core functionality:

Automatically Collected (Minimal)

Device identifier: Anonymized device ID for in-app purchases and app updates (if applicable)
App preferences: Your settings stored locally (brightness, recording quality, layout preferences, etc.)
Vault authentication data: Face ID/Touch ID enrollment information stored securely on your device using iOS Keychain

User-Provided Data

Workspace notes: Any text or notes you create (stored locally on your device)
Web browser history: If you use the Web tab, browsing history and saved bookmarks are stored locally (separate storage for Normal and Vault workspaces)

What We Do NOT Collect

Precise or approximate location data
Recording metadata (timestamps, duration, file names, video content)
Contact information or calendar data
Your IP address for analytics purposes
Information about videos you record or view
Biometric data (Face ID enrollment is processed entirely on-device by iOS)

3. How Your Data is Used

Information collected is used exclusively for:

Providing and improving the Application's core functionality
Storing your preferences and settings locally
Enabling Face ID/Touch ID authentication (processed on-device by iOS)
Processing in-app purchases (if applicable), which may require interaction with Apple's servers

We do not use your data for:

Marketing or promotional purposes
Profiling or behavioral analysis
Targeted advertising
Selling or sharing with third parties

4. Data Storage and Security

All data is stored locally on your iOS device only. This includes:

Recordings (stored in your device's file system)
Workspace data (stored locally)
Browser history and cookies (stored locally, separate per workspace)
App preferences and settings (stored locally)

Data security depends on your device's security:

Use a strong passcode to protect your device
Keep your iOS version updated
For sensitive recordings, store them in the Vault (protected by Face ID/Touch ID)
Consider enabling device encryption if available

Sang Cao does not have access to your data and cannot retrieve it remotely. If your device is lost or damaged, your data stored on it cannot be recovered by the Service Provider.

5. Third-Party Services

The Application may interact with the following third-party services:

Apple Services

App Store: Downloads and app updates use Apple's infrastructure
StoreKit 2: For in-app purchases (if applicable) — data handled by Apple
Local Authentication (Face ID/Touch ID): Biometric data never leaves your device; processed entirely by iOS

Web Browsing (Web Tab)

If you use the Web tab:

Websites you visit may collect data according to their own privacy policies
Cookies, cache, and browsing data are stored locally on your device
Each workspace (Normal and Vault) maintains separate web data
Sang Cao does not see or access your browsing activity

6. Data Retention and Deletion

You have complete control over your data:

Recordings: You can delete recordings anytime from the Gallery
Workspace data: Delete notes and files anytime from the app
Browser data: Clear cookies and cache through the app settings
App deletion: Uninstalling the Application removes all associated data from your device

Sang Cao maintains no backup servers or cloud copies, so uninstalling the Application permanently deletes all data associated with it on your device.

7. Children's Privacy

The Application is not intended for children under 13. Sang Cao does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information, please contact us immediately for assistance in deletion.

8. Your Rights

Since NoLight is local-first and does not collect personal data on remote servers, you have complete control over your information:

Access: All your data is accessible directly on your device
Deletion: Delete any data anytime through the app or by uninstalling
Portability: Export recordings and data using iOS's standard file sharing
Opt-out: Simply uninstall the Application to stop all data collection

9. Legal Compliance

Sang Cao may disclose information:

As required by law (e.g., in response to valid legal process, subpoena, or court order)
To protect rights, safety, or property (yours or others')
To investigate illegal activity or violations of these terms
With your explicit consent

However, since Sang Cao does not maintain centralized databases of user data, there is typically no user information to disclose unless specifically related to in-app purchase history through Apple.

10. Vault Privacy (Normal vs. Vault Workspaces)

The Application provides two separate workspaces:

Normal Workspace: Accessible by opening the app
Vault Workspace: Protected by Face ID/Touch ID, accessible only after authentication

Each maintains separate storage:

Recordings are stored in separate directories
Web browser data (cookies, cache) is stored separately
Notes and workspace data are kept apart

Important: The PIN protecting Vault access is stored securely using iOS Keychain. Sang Cao does not have access to your PIN or the ability to bypass Vault protection.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

Sang Cao may update this Privacy Policy periodically. The effective date will be updated whenever material changes are made. Continued use of the Application after such updates constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy. We recommend reviewing this policy regularly for any changes.
