Shooki (“Shooki,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) helps adults locate, rate, and share restroom experiences. Protecting your privacy is core to that mission. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we share it, and the choices you have.

1. Scope and Eligibility

  1. Shooki is intended for users 18 years and older.
  2. This Privacy Policy applies when you use the Shooki iOS app, visit shooki.co or shooki.app, or interact with any other Shooki-owned sites, services, or communications (collectively, the “Services”).
  3. By using the Services, you acknowledge you have read this Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information in the categories below.

2.1 Account Information

We may collect:

  1. Email address
  2. Hashed password
  3. Username
  4. Date of birth

We use this information to:

  1. Create and secure your account
  2. Confirm eligibility (18+)
  3. Support account recovery and customer support

2.2 Optional Profile Information

We may collect:

  1. Profile photo (if you choose to upload one)

We use this information to:

  1. Personalize your public profile

2.3 Location Information

  1. GPS coordinates while the app is open (if you enable location permissions)

  1. Show nearby restrooms

You can disable location permissions at any time in your device settings.

2.4 Contact Sync Information (Only If You Opt In)

If you choose to use “Sync contacts,” we may collect:

  1. Phone numbers and or emails from your address book
  2. These are hashed on-device before we receive them

We use this information to:

  1. Help you find friends already on Shooki

Important notes:

  1. We do not access your contacts unless you grant permission.
  2. We use hashed contact data for matching and do not use it to market to your contacts.
  3. You can disable contact permissions at any time in your device settings.

2.5 User Content You Provide

We may collect:

  1. Ratings (1–10)
  2. Text reviews
  3. Photos you upload
  4. Comments or other content you post (if enabled)

We use this information to:

  1. Publish the content you choose to share
  2. Power search, scoring, averages, and discovery features
  3. Support moderation and enforcement of our rules

2.6 Device and Usage Information

We may collect:

  1. Device model and OS version
  2. IP address
  3. App interactions and in-app events
  4. Crash logs and performance data
  5. Approximate location derived from IP (for security and fraud prevention)

We use this information to:

  1. Operate and maintain the Services
  2. Detect abuse and protect the community

2.7 Push Notification Data

  1. A device push notification token (a technical identifier used to deliver push notifications)

3. Public Content and Visibility

  1. If you post a public review or photo, your username, rating, text, and approved photos may be visible to other users and potentially to anyone using the Services.
  2. Public content may be viewed, shared, saved, or captured (for example via screenshots) by others. We cannot control what others do with content that is public.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use information to:

  1. Provide, operate, and maintain the Services
  2. Display restroom listings, filters, maps, and directions
  3. Moderate reviews and photos for safety and policy compliance (automated and human review)
  4. Send transactional emails and push notifications
  5. Analyze usage to improve features, performance, and community safety
  6. Prevent fraud, spam, and misuse
  7. Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service

5. Advertising and Analytics

  1. We may use analytics tools to understand app performance and usage patterns.
  2. If we introduce advertising in the future, we may show contextual ads based on what you are viewing in the app or non-personalized ads.
  3. If we ever use ad identifiers for personalized advertising or cross-app tracking, we will follow applicable laws and platform requirements, including requesting permission where required.

6. Legal Bases for Processing (EEA and UK Users)

If you are in the EEA or UK, we process your personal data under one or more legal bases:

  1. Performance of a contract (providing the Services)

7.2 Other Users

If you post public content, other users may see your public profile elements and your posted content.

7.3 Legal, Safety, and Enforcement

We may share information if we believe it is reasonably necessary to:

  3. Protect the rights, safety, or property of Shooki, our users, or the public
  4. Investigate fraud, abuse, or security incidents

7.4 Business Transfers

If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will provide notice if required by law.

8. Data Retention

We keep information only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including to provide the Services and comply with legal obligations.

General retention approach:

  1. Reviews and photos remain visible until you delete them or request account deletion, subject to moderation or legal holds
  2. Location and device logs may be retained up to 24 months, then aggregated or deleted
  3. Encrypted backups are typically purged on a 30-day rolling basis
  4. Contact-sync hashes are retained only as needed for the matching feature and are deleted upon account deletion or as otherwise required by law

9. Security

We use safeguards designed to protect information, including encryption in transit (TLS), encryption at rest (AES-256 or equivalent), least-privilege access controls, and monitoring. No system is perfectly secure, but we work diligently to safeguard your information.

10. Your Choices and Rights

You can:

  1. Access or correct certain profile information in the app settings
  2. Delete your account in Settings
  3. Revoke permissions (location, contacts, notifications) through your device settings
  4. Opt out of marketing emails using an unsubscribe link, if we send marketing emails

11. Children’s Privacy

Shooki is intended for adults 18+. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided data, contact us for prompt removal at shooki.llc@gmail.com.

12. International Data Transfers

Shooki is based in the United States and information may be processed and stored in the United States. When personal data is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent mechanisms where applicable.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the Effective Date and, if changes are material, we will provide notice in the app or by other reasonable means. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Policy.
