My wife[1] did not come up to London this week as our Scots Grey Son[2] came home on leave, his first leave since he joined, but I had every intention of coming to your Lady’s[3] party yesterday

but was held in the House of Commons as there were some important divisions on Finance. As I spend all my time urging the Government to re-arm – I feel I ought to be there to support their efforts to raise the money, and vote against [the?] Socialists who want us to make war all the time without the force to do it with!!

[2] Lord Keyes’ eldest son, Lieutenant-Colonel Geoffrey Charles Tasker Keyes (1917–1941) was commissioned into the Royal Scots Greys, a cavalry regiment of the British Army. He was later attached to No. 11 (Scottish) Commando.
