Current and Former Democratic Campaign and Party Staff Call for a Statement on Gaza from Vice President Harris at Convention

As current or former Democratic campaign and party staff, we understand the need for unity, celebration and momentum coming out of the 2024 Democratic National Convention. We have worked tirelessly to support local, state and national Democratic campaigns. We will work tirelessly to win this election in November.

It is because of our desire to win that we call on Vice President Harris to make three points unequivocally clear in Chicago:

  1. That she condemns the ongoing killing of civilians by Israel.
  2. That the use of United States funded weapons on civilians will not be tolerated.
  3. That assisting in rebuilding Gaza with the Palestinian people will be a priority for her administration.

We commend Vice President Harris for her statement following Prime Minister Netanyahu’s visit in July:

What has happened in Gaza over the past nine months is devastating. The images of dead children and desperate hungry people fleeing for safety, sometimes displaced for the second, third or fourth time. We cannot look away in the face of these tragedies. We cannot allow ourselves to become numb to the suffering, and I will not be silent.

The Democratic National Convention is our chance to unite behind our nominee. A clear expression of her intentions as President and a promise of action in the face of this crisis is both good politics and a moral necessity.

Like our party and our country, we come from diverse backgrounds, with many different perspectives on the best path forward to long term peace in the Middle East. And like our party and our country, we continue to be horrified by the loss of life in Gaza, funded by our tax dollars and committed with our bombs and munitions. We look forward to uniting behind a nominee who shares both our horror and our hope.

We cannot allow ourselves to become numb to the suffering, and we will not be silent.
