Comment Like a Blogger: Introduce, Insert, Interpret

  1. Introduce! Introduce the part you want to talk about. Begin with something the blogger said. Try, “I noticed…” or “I’m interested in the part where you…” or “I like where you talk about…”
  2. Insert! Insert a quote by the writer/blogger. Use quotation marks.
  3. Interpret! What are your thoughts? Try, “This makes me wonder…” or “I had a similar / different idea. My idea is…” or “I think your message might be…”

Example (comment to Ms. McMillan)

Ms. McMillan, I noticed that you talk about Star Trek in your post. You write that Captain Picard is an upstander “because he puts his team first.” This makes me wonder if all upstanders have to put others before their own welfare or safety. I have a similar idea because a real-life upstander is Malala Yousafzai. She cares so much about girls’ education that she was shot by her opponents and she keeps on fighting.
