Greatest Change
Technology can be a fun and innovative way to teach your students in the classroom. Technology has become a big part of today’s society and keeps advancing with every year that goes by. I believe that it is very important that our students are exposed to technology and taught how to use it so that they can successfully be involved in today’s society. Not only is technology a great tool for students, but it is also a great tool for teachers, it gives us as educators more flexibility with our lesson plans and teaching.
As an educator, I can deliver my lessons through technology using podcasts and educational videos. For example, if I have a student that is absent for long periods of time, I can deliver lessons through podcasts and educational videos so that the child doesn’t miss that opportunity to learn. The student can also turn in assignments through technology such as using google docs and I can provide feedback through the document itself. As an educator going back to college and still having a full time job, I now have the capabilities of taking my graduate classes online. I can communicate through technology with my professors and colleagues, submit my projects and assignments and listen or view lessons created by my professors. I never have to step foot onto the college campus and still receive a good education.
With the use of technology, students have many advantages as well. Students can work collaboratively through Google docs or Google slides without having to be in the same room or even the same town. Students who are exposed to technology and understand how to use technology will be more competitive in the workforce when they get older, many jobs involve a person understanding how to use technology in some shape or form. In the preschool room, I can have my students explore technology through Google Earth, IPads, Smartboards, taking photos and shooting their own videos.
It can be a challenge, but as a teacher you can make any lesson into a Technofied lesson by just following the guidelines in the SAMR model. I felt that it was confusing at first but once I dove into the lesson, it was easy to change it. Of course, it takes work and time but it is a great way to expose our students to more technology in the classroom. As we know it, a lot of our students aren’t exposed to technology at home because of their financial situation at home but as educators we can provide that opportunity for them at school.
In conclusion, Technology can be a great motivational tool and a way of successfully setting up your students to be successful citizens in today’s society. It’s truly amazing how much technology has changed since I was in grade school and it will continue to change as I get older. It is also amazing what children can do at a very young age with technology. I remember teaching my parents how to do things on a desktop and I am sure that one day that my own children will be teaching me new things as I get older.
