A few days ago we watch a video called, how William Shatner changed the world.William Shatner was the host of the 2005 two hour T.V show on the discovery channel. He told us star trek changed the world by making cell phones and computers advance in technology. He also said star trek made us look at technology a lot differently.
In the documentary one of the topics was how the cell phone changed throughout the years. In star trek there was a thing called the communicator and it was a really small cell phone, and the people could talk to each other on it. In the 1960’s a lot of people never really saw a cell phone before so people thought it was pretty cool when they had it on the show. In 1973 Martin Cooper made the first cell phone and it weighed 40oz but now they weigh 4 oz and are small like the communicator.
The second topic I picked was how computers change. People in the 1960 didn't really use computers in the 1960s and 1970s. In star trek the computer was called LCARS and it was very high in technology, but the computers of the 1960s and 1970s were very low in technology so people started to make better computers. We now have computers that are very high in technology these days.
I think if we didn't have computers or cellphones the world would be a lot different place. I think star trek did help technology advanced some because it gave people ideas in how to advance technology, and people did advance their technology throughout the years.
