Unit 8: Lesson 1: Activity 2

Understanding the Writing Process

[1]

A visual diagram of one interpretation of the writing process...each writer interprets and adapts the writing process to his or her unique style.

Standards:

11.7.5.5

Use a writing process to develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, drafting, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach, focusing on addressing what is most significant for a specific purpose and audience. (Editing for conventions should demonstrate command of Language standards 1–3 up to and including grades 11–12 on page 75.)

11.9.8.8

As an individual or in collaboration, create a multimedia work, a remix of original work and the work of others, or a piece of digital communication for a specific purpose (e.g., to connect literature to a culture or a literary period, to recast a piece of literature into a different time period or culture, to critique popular culture, to create a parody or satire).

Learning Targets:

I can illustrate an effective writing process.

Essential Questions:

How do contemporary writers use their own uniquely created writing process to develop and strengthen writing while considering how it is appropriate to its audience and purpose?

Summary:

In this activity, you will research several models of the writing process and then define and present your interpretation of the writing process.

You Will Need:

one or two 50-minute class periods

Internet access

MLA guidelines

Activity Instructions:

Step 1.

Research the writing process on the Internet. Find five interpretations of the writing process and cite those websites according to MLA guidelines.

Step 2. Create2.jpg

After studying each website’s interpretation and identifying the similarities and differences, synthesis the ideas that feel most useful to you into your own version of the writing process. Create a Prezi presentation that illustrates your interpretation of the writing process.

Step 3.

In your Prezi presentation, make sure to explain why each step of the writing process is important.

Step 4.

In your Prezi presentation (or in a separate presentation if you prefer), include a writing example that demonstrates its evolution using each step of the process. Be sure to label your writing example in a way that makes each step obvious and understandable.

Step 5. folder-23397_640.png

Submit this Prezi to your ePortfolio. Include a 2-3 paragraph reflection with your artifact.
