The first thing you want to do is find an area you want to settle in. If you’re looking for areas with bushes, Meadow regions have a lot of bushes and a wide variety of bush colour, making it a nice place to get shrubs.
Moving to another pasture costs shrubs and is accessible through clicking the shrub icon when near a gate (pictured below). All pastures will have a North, East, South and West gate.
The shrub cost depends on how many sheep you bring along with you. For 1-5 sheep, it costs 25 shrubs for one sheep (counting your bellwether), from 6-? Sheep, it costs 100 shrubs, and from ?-15 sheep it costs 250 shrubs. This doesn’t include the sheep you leave at your Home Meadow.
In every pasture, there will be a checklist in the top left:
(Note: only checklists for Wasteland regions have one more task than the main four, which is “Build The Machine”)
You need to complete the checklist in order for the pasture to be the most habitable. With time, oil can come back and paths can vanish. The checklist shows the number of trees and flowers needed, number of path tiles to find, and amount of oil left to clear.
Completed Task Region Effects:
For the clearing oil task, you can find ponds with black sludge and put your sheep on top of a black oil spill. You can see how much oil is left to clear in the region in the top left. The sheep will then show a prompt to absorb the oil. This shows a puffing up animation and makes your sheep black. A prompt will also show at the bottom of the screen to show your progress. Then you use a shower (500 shrubs) to rinse the oil off. See more about showers over here!
Clearing oil also has a chance to give a golden clover which you can use to revive deceased sheep and buy stuff. Please note: the shower only has 40 uses. After 40 uses the shower will disappear. Showers placed before the adjustment update only have 20 uses (as seen here to the left). If you don’t do this task, a drought will occur: a new daytime world effect, similar to thunder at night. The berries disappear from bushes and they become ungrazeable. Oil also has a chance to re-occur. After doing this task, the list will check it off and the ducks will have much happier dialogue. Quack :) About every 3 weeks, there will be a mass re-oiling event, and oil will reappear in every region (but not in home meadows[a].) |
Completing both path finding and clear oil tasks also allows you to travel further, opening the rest of the gates. You can see how many path tiles are left to find at the top left and there will be popups at the bottom saying what percentage of the tiles you have found every time you find one.
Finding paths is unfortunately a little finicky right now. There will be hoof prints on the floor which indicate where a path is. You have to use guess work to see where all the paths will connect. You have to stand on an undiscovered path square for a while before the path will actually register. Sometimes it takes a couple of seconds, once I stood on a square for 2 minutes before the path actually updated. It can be difficult finding a path when there’s no more hoof prints to follow, so my advice is to just let your sheep graze around, make sure all your paths connect to the north, east, south and west gates and to each other and with a bit of luck you might find a new path!
When you graze a square that isn’t part of the path, it will instead change color to let you know.
Note: Paths can vanish partially in regions (like re-occuring oil)
Upon “finding” the path, the square will update to a path square which increases sheeps’ movement speed and shrubs on that square will disappear (see above).
Finding the path also allows you to place your wagon on house stones. The exception is in Meadow biomes, where house stones are unlocked by default.
Planting flowers is quite easy, you just click on your little satchel icon in the bottom left corner (as pictured above), navigate to the nature section of the bottom and click on whatever flower you would like to place, before clicking on the desired location. You can see your progress throughout this task by trying to open the Golden Clover Shop or looking at the top left.
Placing flowers will open the Golden Clover Shop, make the place look prettier, add any flowers you’ve placed for the first time into your Flocklands Journal and the bees/other flying critters in the area will have much happier dialogue. Buzz buzz :)
Planting trees is similar to planting flowers, you just click on your little satchel icon in the bottom left corner (as pictured above), navigate to the nature section of the bottom and click on whatever tree you would like to place, before clicking on the desired location.
Placing trees will make the place look prettier and add any trees you’ve placed for the first time into your Flocklands Journal. Finishing the task gives a 10% discount on local specials at Golden Clover shops.
You can also look at the top left corner or click on a region’s Golden Clover Shop to see how many trees are needed. If the flower task isn’t finished, the GC Shop will instead tell you how many flowers are needed.
To place down your wagon, you need to find a house plot (a little tan patch with a sign that has a house on it). They are found in regions with fully found paths. When you walk in front of a house plot, you will see a hammer pop up with the word “Place” in front of it. Tapping it will let you put down your wagon.
If the house plot has a padlock on it, the area’s path has not been discovered yet. You also cannot place wagons on house plots too close to Larry the Lizard. I’m not sure if this is a feature or a bug. I’m also not really sure what Larry does other than telling the player to look at the quests. Also he said he’d give me a sheep for 20 shrubs and he didn’t. Larry, you owe me a son.
Once the wagon is placed, you will see three different buttons in front of it. They allow you to enter the wagon, set it as a checkpoint, and pick it up. Clicking on the zZ icon allows you to set the wagon as your checkpoint, which means you appear there upon opening the game. If a player enters the wagon and then reloads the game, they will reappear inside of that same wagon. Checking into your wagon and exiting the game without entering can be risky for your flock at night, since you’ll respawn in front of your wagon instead of inside it. This mechanic also allows you to teleport there by closing and re-opening the game.
Entering your wagon will send you to your Home Meadow, which allows you to choose which of your sheep to bring along with you.
In the upper left corner of the game, you will see a button like this one. The number on it tells you how many sheep you have. Clicking it will let you see your wagon location, travel party, and resting sheep. You may also decide to leave your sheep at home or bring them along with you.
Clicking on your main sheep (Bellwether) will show a sheep icon above it. Clicking on this basically sets your sheep to AFK mode and it will automatically move from shrub to shrub itself. It’s not always the most reliable though and can get stuck/confused. I usually set it to graze by itself and then I check in on it every 5 minutes or so to check it's still doing its thing. Text will also appear at the bottom of the screen to confirm you’ve set it to this mode so if the text doesn’t come up, give the icon another click.
It sounds obvious, but more sheep (not including lambs) makes your grazing so much more efficient, especially when you factor in the fact that most sheep types increase grazing output when brought along. This means for every time you graze, an extra amount of shrubs is added to that count.
For more info on the sheep types see: Sheep Guide
Baby sheep will not graze or do combat regardless of type and take 3 real life days to grow into adult sheep.
Sheep type [b] | Grazing pattern | Additional Shrubs that will be grazed when brought along |
ANY Baby Sheep (Lambs) | NO bushes | 0 |
Bellwether | Any bushes regardless of colour | 0 |
Shetland Sheep | Only grazes bushes that match their wool colour. | +1 |
Bighorn Sheep | Only grazes bushes that match their wool colour. | 0 |
Longhorn Sheep | Grazes only at night and will only graze bushes that match their wool colour. | +1 (at night, not during daytime) |
Mountain Sheep | Grazes only in Savannas, Swamps, and Wastelands and will only graze bushes that match their wool colour | +2 |
Highlander Sheep | Will graze any bush. | +1 |
If you need the shrubs for a building, other players have the ability to donate to your building. I’ve had a player just straight up pay for half of my house for me. If you are struggling with any builds, post on the subreddit! People are always willing to help others, this is a community based game, not a single player : )
My personal method for grazing is to find a house stone near a lot of bushes. I have shetlands of varying colours so I step out of my house, let them graze those bushes and then go back in and out of my home to reset the bushes. This is especially great at night since it's safe enough (being close to home) and you get more goodies when grazing at night.
You also get shrubs for the daily log-in trek (found by clicking the golden clover icon in the top left)
There are 5 different biomes. The biome of a region affects the appearance of square tiles, the amount of bushes, bush colours, and other things of the area.
The Meadow biome has more bushes and most variety in bush colour, making it a good place for grazing. Here, you can find yellow, orange, red, pink, green, blue, teal, black, brown, gray, and white bushes.
Unique to the Meadow biome, there are butterflies and bunnies. Butterflies talk about flowers, and the bunnies will talk about trees. Also, house stones are immediately available here, regardless of whether the path is found.

Unique to the Wasteland biomes, they have The Machine! They can be built for 10,000 Shrubs, and they can be fed Shrubs in exchange for a build. They can be used freely for 5 turns every 24 hours, but you can skip that time by spending 5 Golden Clovers. They’re helpful for getting showers, which can also be found through bush grazing. Main treks are quests that can be done for rewards like shrubs[c], golden clovers, flowers, barns, showers, and sheep! 7 milestones is one chapter, and there will be a larger reward at the end of each chapter, including a barn.
Once one main trek is completed, they will have a 24 hour cooldown before you can complete another.
Side treks are side quests that can be done for rewards like flowers, showers, scarecrows, signs, trees and a couple golden clovers!
There are two side trek slots. Once one of them is completed, that slot will refresh in 6 hours. You can also click the golden clover button if you want to skip the trek or get a new one early.
This trek requires you to have an adult horned sheep that is not your bellwether (player controlled sheep). Bellwethers can be changed by using Bellwether Bells! These are items that can be found by grazing.
Once your horned sheep hits a predator, both will go into stun mode. Predators get out of stun mode quicker than the sheep do, so make sure your shetlands and stunned sheep are away from them during this time! If you’d like to know more about bears, spiders, and snakes, see here.
One strategy is to take a group of only horned sheep and find one predator, get closer to it to trigger ramming, running away once a sheep has rammed to keep it safe, waiting until the predator un-stuns, and repeating. You may need to put your bellwether directly on top of the predator to get your other sheep to come close enough to ram.
The swirl icon that appears above your sheep is there to tell you that they’re stunned. If you tap that sheep, it will get rid of this icon, but not the cooldown! Keep the stunned sheep away from danger for a few seconds longer just in case you accidentally tap them.
This trek requires you to plant a certain number of flowers of a specific color in a specific location. The simple way to do it is to naturally get enough of the correctly colored flowers through grazing or buying them at golden clover shops. However, according to u/btspacecadet, you can do this faster by “...planting flowers of any colour in your home meadow, dyeing [them the correct color], and then using the shovel item to pick them up. That way you get a flower with the correct colour into your inventory, and if you plant that it should count since the game doesn't differentiate between flowers you got the regular way and this way.” However, this does require you to additionally have enough of the correct dye color and any shovel.
A small tip is that if you are concerned about keeping the current colors of your flock, repeatedly dying the same sheep the same color also counts toward this trek.
Build Z times in X, Y: trees, inns, GC shops, showers, etc. all count for this

Lambs will not graze or stun predators. It takes three days for a lamb to grow up into an adult sheep. When you look at your flock and see “Today’s the day!”, it means that your sheep will be grown up within less than 24 hours.
A stunned horned sheep will also not be able to stun predators again until their cooldown is over. Usually, the swirl icon that appears above them is there to tell you that they’re stunned. If you tap the sheep, it will get rid of this icon. Unfortunately, the cooldown will still be there with or without it, so keep the stunned sheep away from danger for a few seconds longer just in case!
Bellwether bells allow you to change which sheep is your bellwether. Better Bellwether bells allow you to have more in your travel party (the sheep you can carry around with you). You can always check your flock limits by clicking on the number in your left top corner. Clicking on your bellwether pops up a bell icon which allows you to change the exact configuration of your sheep (circle, triangle, etc.)

Hildegard wanders around. Get close to her and click on the icon to sell her sheep for 300 shrubs or buy barns, golden shovels, and golden bells from her, for the same GC cost as in a Golden Clover Shop without discounts.
The default total flock capacity is 15. The only way to increase this is by placing barns in your own home meadow. Each barn increases the total flock capacity by 5. You can get barns from Golden Clover shops, Hildegard, and main treks every 7 days (one week is one chapter.)
Getting rid of sheep to free up space can be done 3 ways, including feeding them to predators, selling them to Hildegard, or putting them up for auction. For the predator method, you must demolish the grave by pressing the red X for the sheep to permanently be removed from the flock.
If you go over the flock capacity, a random sheep will run away. You have 24 hours to build a barn to make enough space to prevent the runaway mechanism from triggering. Runaway sheep wander a random unlocked Flocklands region for 14 days; you can see the countdown in your ledger (top left corner). They have their actual name on top and “RUNAWAY SHEEP” below them. If you manage to find your own sheep, you can click on it to take it back home for ? GC. If you find someone else’s runaway, you can either return it to its owner for 10 GC or steal it for double the GCs. Of course, you can also opt to post about it to help the owner find their own sheep! This gets more expensive, similar to reviving sheep. You can also still breed with runaway sheep, unlike NPCs.

Standing by another player’s home will show a leaf icon that says “Enter”. Clicking on this icon will teleport you to their personal pasture. When standing on the same square with one of the other player’s sheep, a heart icon appears. Pressing on the heart icon above your sheep will give a pop-up to double check if you want to confirm. Confirming then makes a baby lamb appear in your flock. This starts a cooldown specific to the sheep breed before you can mate again. The cooldown will apply to your whole flock.
Walking up to another player's sheep will now show a heart, regardless of whether or not you are inside or outside of a player's Home Meadow. But if the player decides to put their sheep into the Travel Party, those sheep will not show up in the Home Meadow. Only the sheep that they leave at home will appear. You also won't be able to mate your sheep with another player's current Travel Party unless it is the bellwether.
If you are struggling to find an appropriate sheep, check the Ewe-dress book, where many players have submitted where their wagon is and what types of sheep they have! It is maintained by u/KrakensEmbrace, and you can submit your information either through the Google form linked in the post or the comments. The Ewe-dress book is available both as a Google spreadsheet and in a thread at the bottom of the post.
Cooldown and breeding prices
Shetland = 6 hour, free
Bighorn = 12 hours, free
Longhorn = 18 hours, free
Mountain = 24 hours, 5 GC
Highlander = 30 hours, 15 GC
Note: Only partner sheep (other player’s sheep) affects the total of hours and GC cost.
You can also skip the cooldown using GC.
Breed upgrade chance:
Shetland: 30%
Bighorn: 24%
Longhorn: 16%
Mountain: 7%
Highlander: 0%
Flocklands region breeding uses half the Home-Meadow upgrade odds
Mating sheep with the same color and same breed increases the chance of breeding one tier rarer.
Matched pairs will not give you a sheep from the lower tier. (Example: The same color of Bighorn with Bighorn pairing will either give another Bighorn (76%) or Longhorn (24%), but not a Shetland.)
If you breed a pair that does not match, it will almost always give you a Shetland.
The Golden Clover stores sometimes sell sheep. It has a 5% chance to appear on the 3rd slot instead of specials. When completing all the tasks in an area, all items in the Golden Clover store will be discounted!
All shops are unique for each player and per region - so every 20th shop roughly includes a sheep if you roam around! This is a great way to get rarer sheep too.
(picture showing a Shetland sheep being sold for 125 golden clovers)
Golden Clover Shop prices for sheep:
GC = Golden Clover
Shetland Sheep = 100 GC or 90 GC
Bighorn Sheep = 150 GC or 135 GC
Longhorn Sheep = 200 GC or 180 GC
Mountain Sheep = 250 GC or 225 GC
Highlander Sheep = 300 GC or 270 GC
Now, you can also bid for other players’ sheep through the auction system. Getting sheep from auctions is generally cheaper than buying them from Golden Clover Shops.
Auctions are available Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and their timer starts at 17:00 UTC. All auctions end when the timer hits 24 hours. These can be seen by walking up to an Inn and tapping the Golden Clover icon that pops up. This’ll take you to the Auction House, where you can walk around and place bids for sheep. This place can hold up to 200 sheep on an auction day!
You can start your own auction by entering your Home Meadow / wagon and clicking the “Auction” button. There you will select a sheep and set a bid. If your sheep doesn’t get any bids within the time period, it is returned to you. The sheep you are auctioning off does not count towards your flock count while it is being auctioned. Once you put one up for auction, it can’t be canceled and you won’t be able to auction your sheep until the auction day passes. If you list your sheep on days other than Monday, Wednesday, or Friday, they’ll be added to a queue.
Minimum auction price for sheep:
Shetland = 15 GC
Bighorn = 23 GC
Longhorn = 30 GC
Mountain = 38 GC
Highlander = 45 GC
Your main way of dealing with hostile mobs is simply to run. Hiding in other player’s pastures, waiting out the night or just being vigilant. They only appear at night and multiple appear so just pay attention to the clock. Bears and spiders are the exact same in mechanics apart from the fact spiders can poison you. Some sheep breeds are immune to spider poison (see Sheep Guide). Spiders appear in swamps and giant rattlesnakes appear in Savannas. Bears live in the other biomes. New predators are in the works!
You can hit hostile mobs which stuns them for a few moments. Clicking/tapping on them will daze them and a little dizzy spiral icon will appear above their heads. (screenshot of active bear vs dazed bear above). Bighorn sheep and other horned sheep will also hit hostile mobs for you, dazing them. However they CAN die defending the flock. They get stunned for a longer period of time than mobs, leaving them vulnerable to mob attacks during that timeframe. So if you see the spiral on your horned sheep, it means it can die. When the spiral is gone, it’s ready to headbutt again :)
Eating a sheep will also prompt the mob to fall asleep full and satisfied for some time (sleeping spider seen above)
Giant Rattlesnakes are both venomous and fast. It is easier to stun them if you tap/click the center of their body instead of their head.
Can stun bears, spiders, and snakes = All horned sheep
Immune to spider poison = Mountain sheep
Nights have a chance to be storming. Lightning strikes a random tile of the region. If you are on the tile, a sheep dies. A rain effect appears. During thundery nights, there is an increased chance of finding objects. Not yet sure what this fully means, whether there’s any benefits or how much of a chance it happens or whether it's only certain biomes.
Immune to thunder = Longhorn and Highlander sheep
When needing a safe spot at night, Home Meadows are safe places to enter and stay without nearby dangers to harm your sheep. They’re found by entering a wagon. However, bushes from other players’ Home Meadows aren’t grazable, just your own Home Meadow.
Being in your Home Meadow allows you to choose which of your sheep to bring along with you or keep at home.
In the upper left corner of the game, you will see a button like this one. The number on it tells you how many sheep you have. Clicking it will let you see your wagon location, travel party, and resting sheep.[d] You can also see how long you have before you can breed your sheep again. Recently, a sorting feature was added, so you can sort your flock by age, breed, color, or alphabetically by name.
For adventuring outside, it’s important to make sure your sheep are close and in sight if you bring them with you.
If you are walking along the fence, a sheep might get stuck and won’t follow you. This can be fixed by walking up to them and then away from the fence. Being close to the fence at night is also not recommended because it is the main spawning point for predators. They may roam around, but will not spawn at wagons or inns.
The best way to see nearby predators is using the camera feature and zooming out.
The only way to resurrect a sheep is to either spend golden clovers yourself or get someone else to spend their golden clovers to resurrect your sheep for you. To resurrect, stand over its tombstone / wooden cross (previously skulls which are pictured here) and press on the skull icon which will then prompt the player to pay the golden clovers. The first time a sheep dies it costs 10 golden clovers. If the same sheep dies again it's going to cost 20. Every subsequent death increases the cost with 5 golden clovers, e.g 15,20,25,30 and so on. Dead lambs have wooden crosses and dead adult sheep have tombstones.
You do get 5 golden clovers every day as a log in quest. To farm golden clovers, I’ve found that it’s best to go to new areas and clear up oil which has a chance of rewarding the player with golden clovers. Planting flowers also gives a chance for golden clovers.
If you do not want your sheep to be resurrected, you can instead demolish their tombstone. Walking up to the tombstone gives the option for a red x. Pressing that button will then give a pop-up to let you confirm if you want to demolish it. You may want to do this if you are running out of flock space, for example.
Loot from bush grazing is more likely to be found during the night, which increases the chance of getting rarer items! Some of the rarer items include Dynamite, Bellwether Bells, and Shovels. Higher risk = higher rewards!

The flocklands journal (Found at the bottom left of the screen above chat) serves as a collector’s note for all the sheep and flowers you encounter. To enter a sheep into the journal you must have it in your flock. To enter a flower into the journal it must be placed or dyed by the player. |
There are 55 flowers, 11 colours and 5 types for each colour. There are 4 different types of trees. While flowers can be found through grazing bushes, they can also be bought from the Golden Clover Shop. Flowers cost 5 golden clovers and trees cost 7. There are 12 Curios, which are decorative rocks and stumps.
