Celebrating 10 Years of Clan Life | July 2017 |
Throwback Clan Wars by: IcePack As you are all aware, we are in the midst of celebrating 10 Years of Clans on Conquer Club! (2007-2017) In the last Platoon Report: April 2017 we launched the 10 Year Mini War Celebrations with ONLY the maps from the early days available. Those have been extremely successful, 3 months into the 5 1/2 month event Clans have started 13 "Old School" Mini Wars with 16 out of 29 clans participating (to date). We are now EXPANDING this event, with THROWBACK Mini Clan Wars! These will exclusively be available through benga's Mini Cups. You'll have to look for the official announcement thread for Throwback Wars for full details (coming soon). In a nutshell, the event will allow you & a small team to compete under ANY CLAN that you have previously competed for in a mini war style competition. This will very likely be the only event to EVER "waive" the one clan rule (for this event only, and only in the designated mini cups), so be sure to take part in it now if you are interested! Meaning, we could see some of the old school great clans (THOTA anyone?) find some of their old buddies for a fun short competition! These competitions will be held on all maps (not just limited to the 2006-2007 list of the mini wars) and will feature teams of 6-12 players. (Ex: Say you have clan medals for THOTA, then moved to LEG, then are currently in TOFU. You would be able to join & compete under any of those 3 clan names for this competition.) Find your buddies. Build a team. Win the Mini Cup! |

Past Platoon Report Editions | New Clan Directors by: IcePack The Clan Department is pleased to welcome groovysmurf and davekettering to our recently expanded team! You have probably already seen their activity, as they've already jumped in headfirst. They are learning how to work on the clan database, issue war privileges, close out wars and leagues and issue medals! They've both done an amazing job and are picking up everything very quickly. Keefie has been promoted to the Tournament Event Organizer and davekettering and groovysmurf will split his prior duties so you will see them both quite a bit! groovysmurf will also take on the role of executive assistant to IcePack, working closely with him to help ensure the smooth running of the section. | Claniversity Help Requested by: CatchersMitt14 We are looking for some set teams to play against our Claniversity students as part of their graduations exercises. All team types are needed (Dubs/Trips/Quads) and we will be playing on the more basic maps on the site. All maps and settings will be agreed upon before sending invitations to your team as these games should be a relaxed, learning experience for all. If you are interested in lending us a hand please PM CatchersMitt14. Thank you. RL7 Wrapping Up by: Keefie Random League 7 is coming to an end with what looks to be another nail-biting finish. OSA are the pole sitters and are the masters of their own destiny. After the completion of all round 13 matches, the current top three are OSA with 24, S&M with 23 and FALL with 22 points. In the final round of games, OSA are playing FALL while S&M is playing LHDD. If S&M loses and FALL beats OSA then FALL will steal the title. If S&M loses and OSA either wins or draws versus FALL, the title will go to OSA. If S&M wins and the match between FALL and OSA ends in a draw, S&M will get the spoils. I'll be watching developments in this one very closely. Clan League 8 Completed by: Keefie Clan League 8 Premier Division came right down to the wire in the end, with S&M pipping TOP and winning the title. With an amazing record of 28 wins out of 32 games, josko.ri was deservedly awarded the Most Valuable Player award. At the other end of the table; Atlantis, Retribution and A Fist Full of Sixes were relegated. In the Second Division, Legends of War secured the title with a 7 point gap over Gladiators of Noxious, with the Headless Horsemen only 1 point further back. All three can look forward to the Premier Division next year. Condor was awarded the MVP title for LOW. | Poly Clan Challenge Winner - FALL by: Keefie Also completed is the 1st Edition Poly Clan Challenge. After their massive win against Fall in the CC6 final, TOFU must have thought they'd get an easy win in this. Well, not at all! The Fallen countered that defeat with a decisive 26-15 victory in the finals, showing the clan world they still mean business. CC7 Update by: Keefie Conquer Cup 7 is currently at the quarter-final stage. S&M have already qualified for the semi-final courtesy of a fine win over The PACK. Awaiting them in the last four is a match against TOFU or ATN, who are currently locked in a much closer than anticipated battle. In the other half of the draw, FOED have a slender lead over LHDD with FALL and LOW all square. So, will we see the same 4 clans in the final four again or can ATN, FOED or LOW cause an upset? Keep following developments in the clan forum. Mini Cup Update by: Keefie Also underway are Mini Cup 3 and Mini Wars Cup IV, the latter only using maps from 2006 and 2007 in celebration of 10 years of Conquer Club. MC3 is in the semi-final stage with OSA taking on HH and Retribution playing Fall. MWC4 is still in it's early stages, so there will be more to report in our next edition. |

Tales of the Conqueror’s Cup by: groovysmurf The Conqueror's Cup has experienced some wild times, but nothing compares to the adventures encountered during its time with The Odd Fellows Union, the winners of CC6. Unsure exactly what to make of it, superrag and mikiesdios simply stared at the cup mystified. In an attempt to understand the deepest and darkest secrets of the cup, we are told they went nearly two days without doing anything else. Dako had more luck understanding the cup and was able to break it down and send it back to the matrix. Luckily for him, he also managed to get it back. jabajabba developed his own conspiracy theory regarding the cup. Choosing to adhere to the cup's natural features, many members chose to use it for beverages. loutil mixed a protein drink of "watercress, kale, spinach, strawberries, blueberries and two scoops of protein all blended in pure pomegranate juice." Doc_Brown used it to brew his own beer, while both Arama86n and Namliam drank beer from it. When asked to comment further, Namliam simply turned up the volume on R. Kelly's "Bump and Grind" and Arama86n burped and passed out. |
Other members chose a more unique approach. macbone attempted to teach the cup English, but failed horribly. Little did he know the cup already knew English and was just screwing with his head. catnipdreams used the cup to hold an emergency supply of goldfish. Dualta attached wheels to it and took it off-roading. We are told three people suffered minor injuries. Redfelt decided to turn it into a backpack and head out into bear country. fusibaseball taught the cup freestyle and casper spun Phat House records on it. Wanting to show the cup a good time, hopalong dressed it up, wined and dined it. “Let's just say that the cup had a smile by the time I was done with it." As for the rest of TOFU, it seems everyone had some use for the cup. EBConquer ate his cereal from it, akin to IcePack and then let his girls play dress-up with it. rockfist cooked some scrambled eggs in the cup. MudPuppy translated it into Korean and ate poutine from it. trapyoung managed to use the cup as a makeshift diaper for both himself and his newborn. Chariot of Fire took a selfie with the cup and sent it to josko.ri with a note attached. "Wish you were here...but you're not!" Extreme Ways decided to use it as a crutch after hurting his knee. Luckily for him he's going on holiday soon...of course he's going on a walking trip through the Pyrenees… |

Claniversity Student Spotlight: itsthegeneral by: Extreme Ways Itsthegeneral is a vocal team player. From the get-go, he is invested in the game and in his team, eager to learn and/or to explain. These qualities allow him to be a very effective leader, as well as a follower as needed. Him following however is not just obeying commands, but also chiming in to propose a potential drop and inquiring why a particular move would be good. Besides this, itsthegeneral is also a very amicable player all around that would fit in many clans out there to have fun but also improve. This is also shown by his perfect attendance and rating. Be sure to reach out if you're interested in trying him out. |

CL8 SD Winners - Legends of War: Interrogation
by: groovysmurf, IcePack and LOW
Q1: As of the last F400 rankings, you are very close to reaching your post-2010 record high of 1266 (from June 2011). How does this make you feel? “Excited for cruising above it. Someday I would love to be ranked number 1.” - maasman Q2: You did very well in the Second Division securing the #1 spot, how do you feel it went? Did you meet your goals, exceed, or disappointed overall? “Our goal, which we likely shared with everyone who played, was certainly to win the event. I think overall we did well. I would have liked to have seen us end up with a better win / loss game ratio. Of course, when you are able to win an event that is not such bad problem to have.” - chard Q3: What about Premier Division next year, how confident are you feeling? “We have played against that type of competition for years and we have had our moments in the sun in the top 3 rankings, early on when all the best players were in one of a few different clans. It was basically an ongoing bracket of 4-8 clans playing each other for top spot. We held our own for the most part back then and are still the same players now, we will do just fine so long as THOTA doesn't come out of retirement.” - reptile “I'm not one to worry too much about how we will fare in any challenge, tournament, or league. We will attempt to give ourselves the best opportunity to win and hope that is enough to have a good showing. With that said though, once the league gets started, I'm sure there is going to be a whole lot of stress trying to decide what maps and teams will give us that chance to do well.” - chard Q4: How does competing in the most recent wars compare to the ones fought 9-10 years ago? “Wow, things have come so far. most of the wars were smaller and a MUCH smaller list of maps and settings. Back then there was no "tricking your way into victory because you know the tricks of the map" it seems to me it was more about seeing a few rounds in advance based on drop and turn order. Now it seems as though there are so many maps to choose from one can figure out the tricks on certain maps and just win within the first round or two based on a single mistake by your opponents. That is a downer nowadays but it does make placing your right teams in the right maps much more important than it used to. We appreciate Chard's hard work on that one! He has been excellent and is the glue for LOW.” - reptile | Q5: What is LOW's favorite event on the yearly Calendar? (Cup, League, Random etc) “The Random League is always a great event. The playing field is more even due to players having to potentially get out of their comfort zone and play unfamiliar or less familiar maps. There is also less preparation involved since the main strategy when putting teams together is to simply try and get the most map coverage possible.” - chard Q6: Have you participated in any of the 10 Year Mini War Celebrations? “We have not participated due to wanting to focus on completing the Clan League and having a good showing in the Conqueror's Cup.” - chard Q7: Is there any most memorable war you had, or most regrettable defeat? “Sometime back in the early days of LOW when they had a little more than 20 players, we were involved in an event that required 10 Doubles games. The reason this sticks out in my mind is because 20 different players were used to form the teams for those games. That was truly representative of the clan at the time.” - chard “For me, it was any of the times we played THOTA and lost by 1-3 games, ugh talk about a nagging itch on your back you can't reach!” - reptile Q8: If you could fight one clan and guarantee they would accept, which would you pick? “If we were living in the past, then I would have to say THOTA. I just got tired of always losing to them. In the present day, I would like to have a chance to avenge our one game loss to ATN.” - chard “Can't be the best without beating the best, so TOP all the way.” - maasman Q9: What are some hobbies of the clan outside of CC? “Traveling seems to be one of the biggest hobbies of our members. Trying to remember who is available when can be pretty tough sometimes.” - chard “I enjoy disc golf myself, plus weight lifting on the daily.” - maasman |

Q10: Is there one member of the clan that stands out in terms of contributing to your recent success? “Obviously, congrats to Condor for winning the MVP award for the Clan League. We had some honorable mentions that I would like to say 'great job' to as well, namely iancanton and LiveLoveTeach. In general though, I don't think our success can be attributed to a single person. As I look back through our recent wars there seems to be a different set of players whose performance stood out in each. And then there was the addition of the former ACE players for our third set against ATN. That influx of talented players helped us turn a sure loss into a down-to-the-wire one game loss. Again, this comeback was the result of contributions by the majority of the new members. In general, our goal has always been to make sure everyone is involved equally. Relying on one or two members to play the maximum number of games allowed is not something we do since that is not very representative of the overall clan.” - chard Q11: How has the addition of the ACE players affected LOW? Is there anything they brought that has been a large help, or surprised you in anyway? “There were two things that stand out regarding the addition of the players from ACE. The first is that they provided us with a huge boost to our overall map knowledge. LOW has always been better at the older maps. ACE brought a lot of experience on the newer, more specialized, maps. The second is that they have terrific personalities…personalities that meshed extremely well with those of LOW. We couldn't have asked for a better group of people to join with us.” - chard “I am appreciative of being reunited with Leehar again after a long stint of being foes in these challenges.” - maasman Q12: In your own words what is it like to be part of the LOW, and all the history the clan has? “I enjoy the history of it all, going back to near the beginning. Hoping to have a bright future as well.” - maasman “I have enjoyed being a part of LOW. The early rivalries to the more recent successes...and everything in between. In general these days, we have more new members than old. reptile is the lone remaining original founder. Surprisingly (since I didn't realize this until answering this question), I am the next oldest member. Though I’m sure they have heard references to them, I'm not sure most of the newer members even know who THOTA, ID, or TSM (among others) were. The one thing that has always impressed me about our members is how everyone comes together to compete. Even though everyone is always very busy with real-life, when we are entering a challenge or league...everyone gets geared up and looks forward to playing.” - chard | Q13: If you could pick one map where every clan war had to be decided on it, which would you pick and why? “I think there would be a lot of votes from players in our clan for the Classic map. No tricks. Nothing fancy. It all just comes down to who can take advantage of the drop given to them.” - chard “This is a site where at it's core is RISK, so no better way to have a match than on the OG classic. It helps that it's my favorite and one I consistently do well on too.” - maasman Q14: If you could exclude a map from being used in Clan Wars, what would it be and why? “Personally, I am not a big fan of the conqueror style of maps. Having each team just create a stack only to see who gets the best rolls is not very much fun.” - chard “Any map that can be "won" in a round or two or any map that just drags out even after it’s decided.” - reptile Q15: What are your plans moving forward? “Continue trying to find combinations of players that perform well together. We will also continue trying to increase our map knowledge.” - chard “For me, keep playing it easy. As a clan, keep playing the events we like and moving through the brackets.” - maasman Q16: Tell our readers something surprising that we might not know about LOW? “As with most of the older clans, there was a point when LOW had to do some soul searching and decide whether we wanted to stay together. We had lost a bunch of members in a very short period of time to other clans and to real-life callings. As a result, both our moral and our membership numbers were very low. I remember sending out a message to determine the leanings of the remaining members. I'm sure everyone can figure out what was decided given that we are here answering these questions today.” - chard Community Questions CQ1 (by JFM10): When you realized that you were going to be the winners, could you feel the Love Or Whatever? “Once we realized we had won, the feeling was mostly just being happy that we had a good showing. The confidence boost was nice, but there was very little celebrating due to plenty of other games still being active.” - chard |

CQ2 (by iAmCaffeine): Obviously THOTA were your biggest rivals once upon a time. How did that motivate you as a clan, if at all? “Oh man, I loooooved hating THOTA. I miss the rivalry. Some of those guys would actually get on my nerves, but I miss BLITZ and his narcissism. At times when my tank was running on empty I could run off of his fumes alone. Always felt we had the clan to beat them but knew we needed a break or two and it seemed like every war-deciding game, it just didn't go our way. I am sure we have all felt that anger when you saw those 0-2's in a very important game but now pretend as if it happened 3 or 4 times against the same clan what was and still is IMO #1 on CC of all time. If just a couple games would have rolled 2-0's rather than 0-2 or 1-1's you could have changed the course of clan history on CC. I am not talking about the dice specifically here, just using them as an example. THOTA were great and they pushed our limits and I think we all pushed ourselves every time we played them. In my book, there is no arguing they were the GOATs of CC as far as clans go. Blitz if you ever read this, hit me up buddy.” - reptile CQ3 (by iAmCaffeine): How did you deal with the departure of several key players, to leave and create TOFU? “We lost a bunch of players around the same time. Most were to TOFU, but there were a few others as well. The loss of all these players limited our ability to commit to more than one clan event at a time. We dealt with this situation like any clan would have that wanted to continue playing…we focused a lot of time on recruitment.” - chard CQ4 (by iAmCaffeine): Is LoW looking to finally make a comeback with the ACE insurgence, or is it more like a retirement home for clan veterans? “We are always looking to improve. The former ACE members have just kept us moving in the right direction. If you look at the historical rankings I think you’ll see that our comeback has already been accomplished. We have worked our way back to 8th from a low of 19th a few years ago. At this point we are simply looking to establish ourselves as one of the elite clans on the site. I think if you run the proper statistics you will see that LOW is not where veterans tend to come to retire. I believe there are other clans that likely have that honor.” - chard CQ5 (by Robespierre__ ): What are your aspirations for life amongst the top clans? You have quite a few strong players now! “I think the main goal is to be able to be competitive with the top clans on a more consistent basis. Our history shows that we usually play everyone tough, but rarely does that translate into a win. We want to get to the point where we put ourselves into a position to win every challenge.” - chard | CQ6 (by gigi_b): Who was/were the biggest challenge(s) from the just finished league? “There were two clans who played very well against us, namely Tank Squad and Spelunkers of Hell. I don’t know of any reason why that might have been, but the results don’t lie.” - chard CQ7 (by gigi_b): Who is your biggest "nemesis" from the clan world (I'm thinking as a group, not individuals)? “I’m not sure we have played any of these clans enough to consider them a ‘nemesis’. RA would have been the closest thing to this, but they ended up dropping out of the league.” - chard “I'd say FALL has given us fits as of late.” - maasman CQ8 (by gigi_b): What do you think are your best 3 home games (maps/settings/teams)? “Hmm…narrowing the list of maps down to three is certainly tough. If you look at the maps that a lot of our members are good at and not just one or two, then maybe the maps would be Rail Asia, Waterloo, and Germany.” - chard CQ9 (by benga): What do you expect from clans? What changes need to be made? “My expectations from the beginning are that clans exist to provide the highest level of competition the site has to offer. Something that would be nice if the site implemented would be the ability to perform a query for various statistics. There are add-ons that will help with this, but these are not maintained. The Panel Interface was a nice substitute for BOB. Why not also implement a Statistics Interface. Most people enjoy looking at and talking about stats.” - chard CQ10 (by Dukasaur): What's your most memorable game? “There are several I can think of off the top of my head, but I'd say winning my first world 2.1 map with 8 players having only 1 territory left at one point. As far as team games, the first to come to mind was on classic where my teammate (mgconstruction) and I as well as our opponents had perfect attacking dice for about 5 rounds in a row. Was nuts. Lost in the end though.” - maasman CQ11 (by Dukasaur): Have you all taken a vow of silence? How come I never hear any of you in the forums? “No…no vow of silence. I’ve mentioned this elsewhere as well, but I believe pretty much every person in the clan is just extremely busy with real-life and so when they have time to come to the site they want to use that time to play their games.” - chard |

Clan Spotlight: Imperial Dragoons - Getting Back into the Action
By: groovysmurf, IcePack and ID
Q1: Prior to your recent win against HH, your last war was fought a year ago. What made you step back? “We never should have swayed, but i figured it was time to get the clan active and back on the roll.” - hiitsmestevie1 Q2: What made ID come back to fight competitively? “I think IcePack’s CR@W game was the catalyst. We are doing pretty good in that, so far.” - donovan THE DARK Q3: What are some of the challenges you're experiencing as a clan trying to come back? “Not enough members to draw upon for a balanced war - a few bear the burden.” - PFC_ID Q4: In your own words what is it like to be part of the ID, and all the history the clan has? “It has a certain level of responsibility to carry on the tradition of being the first of anything, I suppose. We also have to recognize that times have changed as well.” - donovan THE DARK Q5: Do you have any "original" members left and active within Imperial Dragoons? “I think hwhrett, Edgron, 4 U 2 NV, Gamefreakguy, nesterdude and myself have been here many many years.” hiitsmestevie1 Q6: What is your best memory from the past many years of being in ID? “When the clan invited me and convinced me just cause i am a girl does not mean i can't play ‘Risk’, as my older brothers had totally convinced me to be the case.” - hiitsmesteveie1 Q7: What qualities do you look for in potential new members? “Active in games, willingness to participate, respectful - we’re hoping to get our forum more active again, too.” - hiitsmestevie1 Q8: How are the new recruits working out for you? “Excellent - good to have some new life in the clan.” - PFC_ID Q9: What is ID's main goal? Is it rankings, titles, just to have fun or something else? “Was ranking/title, but currently to develop the close relationships we are accustomed to with the new members as well and have fun while getting back into the action and becoming number one.” - hiitsmestevie1 | Q10: Without giving away what House you are, how are you enjoying the CR@W competition? “We are enjoying it very much. It has brought us closer as a clan. We missed that.” - donovan THE DARK Q11: Have you participated in any of the 10 Year Mini War Celebrations? “Yes, two so far and we’ve won both.” - hiitsmestevie1 Q12: Does ID have plans to sign up for other regular events, such as the Cup and Leagues? “I hope so...right now playing everything by ear.” - hiitsmestevie1 Q13: If you could exclude a map from being used in Clan Wars, what would it be and why? “I wouldn't want to because if the case is I am not good at or even highly dislike the map, chances are likely someone else in the clan might LIKE it.” - hiitsmestevie1 Q14: What are some of your hobbies outside of CC? “Dirt biking, camping, wakeboarding and free weights.” - donovan THE DARK “Working on my house/landscaping. It is big, broken and never seemingly finished. And every time I ‘finish’ my landscaping, I decide I don't like it and start all over.” - PFC_ID Q15: Tell our readers something surprising they may not know? “I am adopted and have 30 years clean and sober!” - donovan THE DARK Community Questions CQ1 (by iAmCaffeine): On a scale of 1 to 10, where would you rate your greatest donkey experience and why? “10, but you would have to ask the midgets as well, they were key to a good bray.” - PFC_ID CQ2 (by MudPuppy): If you could re-recruit any ID legend no longer active on CC, who would it be? “My personal choice would be James Vazquez, but that’s cause he was the one who recruited me and welcomed me.” - hiitsmestevie1 |

CR@W: the Bannermen Update by: IcePack We have had quite a bit happen within the Clan Realms at War Event. Another dozen turns have passed since the last update and three more houses have been vanquished! House of the Black Knights, House of Darkness and House of the World Wide Wanderers have all vanished from the Realm. We have had some very, very bloody turns where three, four and now FIVE Lords have been executed by a single House on a single turn! Currently, IcePack has had some RL issues that have delayed the game. However, we are happy to announce that both celliotti (Lord Fame) and groovysmurf (overall game turn processing) have been signed up to assist. Training is commencing and we hope to get the event back on track early this month! It has been extremely rewarding being able to witness the event. I’ve seen a wide variety of strategies and planning while receiving a lot of feedback that will help make the next edition even better! | Sneak Peak at CR@W: Homeworld by: IcePack Speaking of the next edition… As promised, we bring you a sneak peek at some of the plans! First (and most importantly) we are working with the webmaster to automate the map and legends. This is a critical "update" to help reduce the time required to do the game updates. Having to keep up with 15 maps and legends individually just made for a very time consuming and difficult process. Thankfully, there will only need to be ONE map updated in our our second edition. Players will view an auto filtered version limiting your map and legend to what your specific House can see and know. The game will feature a new theme, a simplified rule set and more thorough FAQ from the start. New battle units, a hit point and damage system and of course, some very interesting twists and turns for the great Houses of the Realm to maneuver through can also be expected. An interesting co-operative element new to the CR@W series will also be implemented. Battle, diplomacy, intrigue, secrecy and the unknown will await you in… |
