Oh hey. Haven’t seen you guys in almost a year now. With 6.79 just out the door, this is a perfect opportunity to start another amateur tournament. Maybe you remember us from Winter 2012, maybe you don’t. But I hope that we at least get some familar faces around, maybe even get a bigger channel to stream the event.
So here it is again. ‘Defense of the Amateur’ 2013 edition, with kinda the same organizers as last year. Since yubbermax is busy this year, it will only be me organizing and administrating this tournament. This obviously has an effect on the dates and times of matches, though it shouldn’t take longer than one month to finish.
Now enough from me, lets get going with the tournament. Last year, we had aQuarium winning the tournament, but who is it going to be this time?
Like last year, we’re going for the Double Elimination format, so that teams have two tries at getting their games right. This also means that we are going to have twice as much matches.
You should be used to this by now, unless you are an extremely new player. This basically makes the hero pool a bit more stable and removes unbalanced heroes.
There are three stages to the tournament, or two if we don’t get enough teams:
Teams from both EU and US are allowed in the tournament. If you are from outside those regions, we reserve the right to prefer EU and US teams over you. This is a precaution to prevent extremely high pings and random disconnects.
If your team has an average skill level between Normal and Very High, you can sign up until the 1st of December 2013 (01.12.2013) using this document.
You are expected to show up 10 minutes early than match start so that we can set up everything. If you aren’t there by 15 minutes after planned match start, you are automatically disqualified.
If a member is ill or missing, you may only take Stand-Ins that you have registered. If you wish to add any Stand-Ins, but have already signed up, you can contact us with their details, either via Steam or via E-mail.
The administrators will create the lobbies as early as possible, but not later than 10 minutes before match start, which should entirely possible if we don’t encounter too many slow matches.
Teams may ask for a remake in the first 30 seconds after creeps spawn of the match if one or more members of your team has terrible ping or disconnects entirely. Both teams have to pause the game when a member of either team is missing.
You can use the team-chat as you want to, however the All-Chat is limited to just explaining pauses, asking for remakes and forfeiting the game. Post-Match chat should only be used for wishing the other team well. Trashtalking earns you a Penalty Strike.
You should only pause if there is an immediate issue, for example ping or disconnects. You are not allowed to unpause until it is resolved or an administrator allows you to. Abusing this for tactical or other reasons will earn you a Penalty Strike.
These tell us admins how you have behaved in the tournament. Three of these and you are disqualified from this and any future tournament.
Donations are welcome in all currencies. Please remember that there is a small fee for non-EU currencies so your donation will end up a bit smaller. If you want, you can even leave the staff or the teams a message!
It is up to your team captain to split the prizes you gain.
