Minority Engineering Educational Task (M.E.E.T.), the Rutgers University Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers

During the dates of March 31st  to April 2nd, the Minority Engineering Educational Task (M.E.E.T.), the Rutgers University Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (N.S.B.E.), will be hosting our semi-annual High School Outreach Program.

The Minority Engineering Educational Task is a student-run organization. Our mission is "To increase the number of culturally responsible minority engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community." We have hosted various programs that provide academic, professional, leadership, and social support to minority students studying technical degrees at Rutgers University since 1975. The High School Outreach Program has been a part of our organization's Pre-College Initiative (PCI) Program for over 20 years. The PCI program strives to stimulate pre-collegiate student interest in the S.T.E.M. - science, technology, engineering, and mathematics - in response to the lack of minorities pursuing technical degrees.

Each semester, high school students from all over New Jersey and surrounding areas are invited to spend a weekend at Rutgers University School of Engineering to receive a hands-on overview of the benefits of a career in engineering. We are ecstatic to announce that the High School Outreach Program will be fully returning in person . Students will receive guidance from enrolled college students in various engineering disciplines as information about the collegiate admission and financial aid process. Students will have a better understanding of college life; it's our sincere hope that students will get a sense of their future goals, strengths, and weaknesses. The High School Outreach Program is highly recommended for high school juniors and seniors interested in a S.T.E.M. field or attending Rutgers University.

Please complete and submit the attached application. THE DEADLINE OF THE APPLICATION IS March 15th 11:59PM. Please keep in mind that incomplete or late applications will not be accepted. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Miguel Gaspar, the Cultural Awareness Chair - at  culturalawareness.runsbe@gmail.com, The Highschool Outreach Leads Zha’Aisa Shelton at zms24@scarletmail.rutgers.edu and Chai Lendor at cnl50@scarletmail.rutgers.edu  or Assistant Dean Candiece White at the Office of Student Services at 848-445-2687 between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm.

Invitation to Congressman Pallone's U.S. Service Academy Day

You are invited to Congressman Pallone’s 2022 U.S. Service Academy Day!  The event will take place on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at the Waterfront Pier of Naval Weapons Station Earle in Leonardo.

Every year thousands of students contact their elected representatives in order to obtain a nomination to one of the prestigious U.S. Service Academies, and many seek additional information about the process.  Our event will focus on the admissions process and lifestyles as Cadets or Midshipmen at one of the Service Academies.  Interested students will have the opportunity to personally meet with representatives from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and possibly someone from a local ROTC program.

It is our hope that Academy Day will help better prepare the young men and women interested in obtaining a nomination to one of the U.S. Service Academies, as well as the educators working with these students.  Therefore, I kindly ask that you share this information with any interested parties within your schools/districts and on your social media pages.  For your convenience, I have attached a copy of our flyer.

IMPORTANT:  In order to ensure that the base meets their Security Requirements, they require that all adults (18 years and older) must be vetted prior to the event. A cap of 250 attendees. Individuals with a valid DoD issued ID card do not require vetting.

Claremont Colleges Information Session this Thursday

We invite you and your families to learn more about The Claremont Colleges - Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, Pitzer, Pomona, and Scripps Colleges - a consortium of five undergraduate institutions located in one square mile in sunny Claremont, California. Our distinct colleges, also known as the "5Cs", are united by a spirit of collaboration and connectivity that influences academics, athletics, and student life. With shared resources across the consortium, like the Claremont Colleges Library and over 250 clubs and organizations, students at the "5Cs" experience the best of both worlds: the ability to attend a small, tightly focused college while also enjoying the benefits of a larger college or university.

We encourage you to attend our upcoming virtual events to learn more about both our shared and institutionally unique approaches to a liberal arts education.

Thursday, February 24 at 4:00 p.m. Pacific Time
