Dear Sir,
We have an enquiry from a client as to your charges for painting portraits. We telephoned your studio last week, but your Secretary informed us that you were away and would not be back until this week.
We do not know the exact size of the portrait required, but we think it is to hang alongside another at present in position, a head and shoulders with hands, the size of which is 30” x 40”.
We shall be glad if in this particular case you will make the price as low as possible; and we shall also be pleased to know if your commission to us is the usual 25% gallery commission.
We are, Sir,
Yours faithfully,
ST. GEORGE’S GALLERY.
Arthur Howell.

Dear Lucerl —
Will you please let Mrs Perry write to this gallery that I shall return at the end of Oct – & that the price Head with hands would be 700 gs including his 20%, not 25% –
Also I would like her to write immediately that I am prevented to return from Paris in time to paint Mrs Henderson [5590] – by the 17, but could arrange about the 22 – 23 – Oct – and I would like to heave the reply to Paris by return – the letter must be addressed to Mr Bowse – of which Mrs Perry will find a letter with address in my letter [shelves?] – files – Also I would like to know who Mrs McDonald is – her name is put down in my note book for the 20 Oct 2.30 if so she too has to be postponed for a week –
Had nice letter from Stef[1] today I wish to state – that in the letter to Henry[2] I did not mentioned [sic] the girls name in fact – in no letters – This evening I dine out at with Guiche[3] – I had a good days work – always yours [illegible]
