Choose Your Champion & Odds w/ TheRationalPi
Blizz is letting us choose who we think will be the 2016 Hearthstone World Champion and possibly win some packs.
First selection window: October 20, 2016 9:00 AM PDT - October 25, 2016 11:59 PM PDT
Second selection window: October 31, 2016 12:01 AM PDT - November 3, 2016 11:59 PM PDT
1. Choose your champion!
During one of the two selection windows, pick one finalist as your champion. Choose wisely; once you’ve locked in your pick, you cannot change it.
2. Cheer them on to glory!
Follow the tournament at BlizzCon 2016 and track your champion’s progress.
3. Reap rewards with each victory!
Every time your champion wins a match, you will earn a reward.
Our own RationalPi has a post on Amove.tv about the odds of who will win
Playing the Odds for Blizzcon 2016: Why ThijsNL is the smart pick for World Champion
Pi took into account the tournament format, the group breakdown, the players’ decks, Vicious Syndicate’s data reaper report, the 2-step ban phase (where each player bans the best deck against their lineup after taking into account the deck they expect their opponent to ban), and simulated the player matchups using player bonuses based on their GosuGamers rating.
Pi also ran simulations without the GosuGamers rating bonus because not all players have been tracked.
“As expected from a tournament of this caliber, all of the players are very even. ThijsNL looks to be the strongest competitor, but Che0nsu isn’t far behind. Judging just from these win rates, Groups A and B are neck and neck for the title “Group of Death.””

Hey you Poesbastiese bepiste Pluimveë (*)!
(* Translation from Afrikaans: Exuberantly angry poultry)
Greetings from South Africa!
As we all know, there are a few fundamental Laws of Hearthstone. Some of them are:
1) A flame juggler will never hit a concealed Auctioneer with one health
2) Ragnaros will always hit face, unless that will win you the game
3) If you have one out left for victory, that card will be at the bottom of your deck.
(Of course, all of these laws are reversed for your opponent)
This is a tragic yet crazy story of the third option. Playing Priest against a mage, I thought-steal a Reno Jackson on turn 3. At the time I reckon while it is an over-costed minion for me, at least I now know my opponent is playing Reno Mage. A long and intense battle followed, with my opponent eventually having to play his own Reno, until we get to the point where I will have lethal if I can only survive one turn... which I knew I wouldn't. I look at Reno in my hand, and realize I only have 2 cards left in my library. I curse myself for playing on mobile (without a tracker), and desperately try to remember what I could have left. I eventually figure the probability of those two final cards to be the same is quite low, so what the hell... no Reno, we are most definitely not going to be rich, you lying bastard! I emote aggressively to my opponent's very patronizing "That's amazing!" as Reno sits smiling back at my explicitly not-30 health total.
After the agonizing loss, I realize that the final two cards were indeed two flash heals and if any one of them would've been drawn earlier, I would've had:
i) a way to heal myself beyond lethal range
ii) a way to kill my opponent with Auchenai
iii) the opportunity to sip on the rich, golden nectar which is my opponent's Reno milkshake.
Thanks for indulging me, and keep on doing the great things you are doing!

You 3 Funny Cluckers,
Do you guys think the point comes where Blizzard walks away from the pit of hatred and trolls that is r/hearthstone?
Every time I have any faith in humanity it gets snuffed out by going there but it seems to be one of the only places to get official news/updates from Team 5. Nothing is good enough or fast enough for the group of people that seem to inhabit that group, and it's to the point I feel bad for Ben Brode when he does try to help someone out.

Ah, hello there Dissatisfied Dinosaur Descendants
This latest patch, while casually thrown out with no special announcement, seems slightly unprecedented in recent Hearthstone memory, seemingly going against a few of Team Five's past stated policies, such as the frequency of card changes. Here we not only got card changes, but non-refundable card changes as none of the cards changed are eligible for full dust. Not to mention the massive amount of new quests injected into the game at once, as far as I know a move that has never been done since the game was first available publicly.
Could this be a sign of a shift in Team Five's policy in updating Hearthstone going forward? Already there is speculation that the changes to Murloc interactions could indicate that the next expansion will heavily feature Murlocs, and the change was intended to make the mirror match less weird. Already there are rumors of Anyfin Paladin showing up more frequently on the ladder due to the mirror match becoming less swingy. I do not know if this is true as I don't play Anyfin Paladin, but it is interesting, and I personally would welcome minor tweaks (refundable or not doesn't matter) prior to expansion releases.

Hello Exasperated Feathered Bipeds,
I was wondering how important you think the mulligan step is to the game of Hearthstone and whether Hearthstones unique mulligan mechanic, of choosing which cards to switch, is important, or if another similar mechanic might work just as well if not better?
From my personal experience I know of two others but you may know more:
In Netrunner you discard and redraw your whole hand (I think this is the standard way)
In Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn you pick your own starting hand from your deck, this could potentially significantly change Hearthstone strategy if you can guarantee your first hand.
Keep on clucking!
