New Matchmaking Rules
Spyrian posted on the official forums yesterday detailing a change to party sizes in Quick Match matchmaking. “Starting today, we’ve greatly reduced the possibility that you’ll be matched against a party that has three more members than the largest party on your own team.”
Spyrian went on to give some examples:
“It is important to note that the matchmaker will still prioritize match quality over party size, and may pull in parties outside of these ranges if the resulting game is the most suitable match available. This means that it’s still possible to play against a party that’s larger than your own, but this will only occur in rare cases.”
*EDIT: There has been some confusion about how parties of 3 can match against full parties. This rule is based on the largest party size on each team, so it IS still possible a 2-player and 3-player party will be matched against a full party. However, as mentioned above, the matchmaker still prioritizes match quality, so the system will do its best to ensure your game is the best match available at the time.

The Stale Meta
There has been a lot of discussion about the stale state of the Heroes meta over on reddit this week. We’ve highlighted a few of the more interesting discussions from pros and analysts.
Simple steps to win every single game of Hero League:

Leoric, Nazeebo, Johanna, Uther (bright yellow), Zeratul, and Illidan have dropped pretty far.

If Haunted Mines returned, it would be reworked. They are not working on it now. (DB pledges transparency)

No buffs for Anub’arak. He’s close to 50% win rate. (47.1% on HotSlogs. Currently only 15 heroes above 50%)
Lunara fixes include Stutter stepping, extra health and a few other tweaks.

After finally getting through all of the Heroes Rising competition I noticed a lot of snowballing happening early game. It is one thing for this to be happening in quick match but to have it happening at this level is pretty telling of some balancing issues. Do you agree or I am just crazy? If you agree what do think needs to be done to help this issue? Or why am I wrong, why do you feel nothing needs to be done? Anxiously awaiting you thoughts and opinions love the show.
May the Force be with you,
Jeff
Hey Garrett and Kyle,
I have been playing Heroes for about 8 months and I am really amazed at how much churn there has been in regards to what heroes belong in the meta. We had the double Johanna, Leoric warrior phase, Jania is amazing, then she is not. Tyrande and Tassadar are broken supports, to now they are great picks. I remember watching one of your after game shows and Garrett was talking about how he did not understand where Lt. Morales fit in the game and now Garrett loves the Medic. This is my first MOBA I have played, so my question is does every MOBA have a constantly changing META? Or is this merely a product of Heroes still being a relatively new game with a still small and developing hero collection? Thanks for your time and great job with the show,
