Editor’s Corner

Jai Jinendra,

Recently, I happened to respond the following to a community member who sent a thank you note to the committee:
We have great participation every year from everyone, and a community that sticks together, volunteers, sponsors, participates and shows support, is what makes this (event) possible - and successful!

I feel quite strongly about this.  No community is without issues, but ultimately, when we stand together, while supporting our volunteers, leaders, and sponsors, we achieve big things.

The Mahavir Jayanti program in the Triangle, though comparably smaller than some other cities, still brings in 350-400 people.  And it is with the support of the community that we can make it possible, and even successful.

So, thank you to the entire community and everyone who played a part, small or big, in helping bring this event to fruition.

Regards,

Bhairav Shah

(Secretary, JSCNC)

Mahavir Jayanti Program DVDs

The JSCNC Media team is hard at work on making available the Mahavir Jayanti program DVDs.  As you might know, the entire program was recorded on high quality video camera and we strive to prepare edited versions from raw footage for better viewing experience.  The entire program will be available in one or two DVD sets.  We will also have high resolution pictures available.   Thank you to Shailesh Shah for leading the charge on this.

Highway Cleanup

Our center participates in Adopt-A-Highway cleanup twice a year.  The statewide Adopt-A-Highway program was established in 1988 and is a joint effort between community volunteers and NC Department of Transportation to keep our roads clean.  JSCNC adopted a stretch of Highway 54 in Cary between Morrisville Parkway and Airport Boulevard. This stretch is named in honor of Mr. Lalit Banker.

The tradition was continued this April 10th with the leadership of Priteshbhai Shah.  A few captured memories for this at the link below:

Thank you to Priteshbhai for leading this event and Harshadbhai for providing the pictures.

Monthly Meeting Lunches

It has come to our attention that some families might be reserved in having lunch at the monthly meetings.  The reasons could be many, from not feeling comfortable to not knowing whether they could or not.

Regardless of your level of participation, please know that everyone is welcome, and we humbly ask, for your participation in monthly meeting lunches.

If you would like to help, please contact this year’s Food Coordinator, Nishaben Mehta at (919) 303-4456.

Mother’s Day Celebration

JSCNC will be celebrating Mother’s Day at the next monthly meeting on May 15th.  JSCNC will be sponsoring the lunch for this event.

Please see a note for the kids in the Pathshala section.

For your general information and planning purposes, we would like to announce that Father’s Day Picnic will be held on June 25th at Kiwanis Shelter in Bond Park.  Please note that this is a different location than in the past.

Many thanks to Amit and Ishita Pothiwala for sponsoring the event this year.  As with every year, we will send out a separate email with more details and a request for RSVP if you plan to attend.

Weekly Mahavir Puja

Every Saturday, a Mahavir Puja is performed at the Hindu Temple.  Volunteers sign up to perform this Puja, and are assigned specific Saturdays.

The Puja is very simple and takes less than one hour.  It is a great way to teach and prepare children with this important ritual, so that they find confidence in performing it during daily routine, special occasions or even pilgrimages in India.  Children will learn how to perform the kesar Puja and all aspects of Asht prakari Puja.

Mrs. Rekha Banker, who coordinates weekly Puja, will be happy to demonstrate in person, and has several books with illustrations to help.  If you are interested, please contact her at rekla78@gmail.com or at (919) 676-4548.
