Schroeder Conference Meets are Thursdays in May

(Where did that month go?!!?):

5/29 = Conference Championship (Red vs. Blue vs. White Teams)

Will Coach Wendy Frank finally capture her first conference championship with the blue team?  Will Coach Ann White’s Red Team go from 3rd place in dual meets this session to winning conference?  How does Coach Matt Miller’s team factor into the equation?  You need to be at the aquatic center this Thursday to find out.  Don’t miss all the action!

May 29th Conference Meet at WSAC:

1. Only swimmers who have committed to the meet will swim.  Swimmers who have not committed but still show up for the meet, will not participate.  There will be no deck entries the day of the meet.

1. Summer Group Placement for Your Swimmer:

Congratulations to all of the swimmers who moved to a higher group for the summer session!!  Please go to your account and check which group your swimmer is in.

The Spring Session ends on June 7th and the Summer Session begins the week of June 8th.  We are very excited that the large majority of swimmers are continuing on for the Summer Session which includes our first ever Schroeder Trophy Meet in August for all non-state swimmers.  It will also be great to have some practices outdoors :)

We also want to welcome back a number of swimmers who are returning for the Summer Session after taking last session off.  Glad to have you all back!!

If your swimmer is still listed as active on your account, and he/she will not be participating in the Summer Session, please contact Coach Bob right away.  We will suspend the swimmer but keep your account open so you will continue to receive communications from the team.  Most of you who are not participating in the summer session have indicated your swimmer will be back for the Fall Session.  Please confirm that with Bob in August so we can re-activate your swimmer before 9/1/14.

2. Long Course (Summer) Coaching Staff - Welcome Amy Bennett!

We are very excited to announce the final addition to our summer coaching staff.  Welcome Coach Amy :)   Amy will mainly be assisting Bob with all of the Senior and Junior Groups.  She will also help Coach Ann at times with the younger groups.

Amy began swimming as a 7 year old for the Green Bay YMCA and swam there until she was 18.  She was a YMCA National qualifier for Green Bay.  Amy attended college at UW-Stevens Point and swam all four years.  At UW-Stevens Point she was a Conference Champion and was a 2nd and 3rd team All-Conference swimmer in a number of events.

Amy’s coaching experience began at Stevens Point YMCA in 2004 where she worked with swimmers at all levels, novice through senior.  She also coached at the YMCA Nationals with the team.  In 2008, she moved on to coach for the Green Bay Swim Club and DePere HS.  Beginning in 2009, she accepted a position with Illinois’s powerful Patriot Swim Team where she worked mainly with senior swimmers.

We are looking forward to Amy continuing her very successful aquatic career as a Schroeder coach for many years to come!!

Just in case you missed this last week, we are also pleased to have Gabby Swider as an addition to our summer staff.  Gabby is an alumna of St. Thomas More High School and trained many years with Schroeder at the aquatic center, driving there daily to practice.  When SST-South began in the fall of 2012, she became one of the South “pioneers” and swam for Coach Bob.  Gabby just completed her freshman year of academics and college swimming at UW-Whitewater.

Gabby is going to assist Coaches Bob, Amy, Ann and Michelle with all the groups this summer, as well as continue her own training with Bob.

A reminder, Coach Ann is now the lead coach for all 12 & Under groups (AG 1,2,3, Super8, Stars & SuperStars), so contact her regarding meet sign-up, practice, questions or concerns.  She likes questions!

Coach Michelle along with Coach Gabby will assist Ann with all of the groups now that her teaching duties have wrapped up at UW-Whitewater.

3. Who do I contact for any question/communication I have regarding my swimmer?

With many different communications coming from the team, we know it can be a bit confusing as to whom you should contact with questions/communications regarding your swimmer.

It’s important to remember that the first contact should be made with your swimmer’s coach.  This means that Schroeder South Sr1, Jr1, Sr2 and Jr2 parents should contact Coach Bob.  AG1, 2, 3, Super 8, Schroeder Star and SuperStar parents should contact Coach Ann.  Bob and Ann’s contact info is below in the SST South Office Hours section.  Please do not contact any Schroeder North coaches (especially Coach Matt) with questions unless directed to do so.

4. Which Meet do I enter - Waukesha or WGLO?  We know there might be some confusion on this so here is info that will help.

WGLO (6/27-29):  To compete in an event at the WGLO meet, a swimmer must have achieved a time standard for that event.  The WGLO meet is a very high level meet.  The time standards are fast times that are set for very accomplished swimmers.  If a swimmer has achieved any WGLO time standards, we want the swimmer to enter those events.  Swimmers who have not achieved any of the WGLO time standards should not commit to the meet.

Waukesha Meet (6/21-22):  ALL swimmers who are not eligible for the WGLO meet are expected to commit to both days of the Waukesha Meet.  (Remember if you cannot be there both days, you must indicate that in the message box or else the coach will enter events for the swimmer on both days and you will be responsible for all entry fees.)

This meet is open to every level of swimmer.  Swimmers who are competing in the WGLO meet may also swim in the Waukesha Meet if they choose.  Due to the limited number of summer meets, it is recommended that swimmers who have 3 or less WGLO times also swim in the Waukesha meet.  If a swimmer can only attend one of the meets, it should be the Waukesha meet so he/she gets more events to compete in.

5. Schroeder South Think Tank (SSTT) Off and Running (Or  Should We Say Off and Swimming?!?)

We want to thank everyone for the amazing response to SSTT.  We have 24 positive responses so we are glad we have a big tank :).

The first SSTT meeting will be at St Francis Brewery and Restaurant located at Howard and Kinnickinnic on Wednesday, 5/28.  Meet and Greet is at 6:00 p.m., with an opportunity to order food and drink.  The meeting will begin at 6:30.

6.  Practice Schedule Link: Schroeder South Practice Schedule

7. Upcoming Meet Info:  What follows is a review of upcoming meets and commitment deadlines; it’s a good idea to commit ASAP so you do not miss any deadlines.

8. How to Sign Up for Meets:

Parents are reminded ALL SWIMMERS MUST COMMIT OR DECLINE by the entry deadline for each meet and ALL SWIMMERS are expected to participate in the meets listed for their group on the meet schedule.

To find out all you need to know about any particular meet go to the Schroeder home page and scroll down to the list of meets.  To review meet information on a particular meet, click on the name of the meet and follow the links.

To enter your swimmer in a meet, scroll down to the list of meets.  Click on “Edit Commitment” for the meet (enter password if necessary).  Then click on Undeclared Athletes, scroll to your swimmer’s name, click on the name, commit (put yes) in the declaration box, and click on the save changes box.  Once the swimmer is committed, you may choose the swimmer’s events or have the coach choose the events (recommended).

If your swimmer cannot attend, follow the previous steps and put no in the declaration box.  Please use the message box to explain why the swimmer is not participating.

When you’re all done, make sure you click on the save changes box.

9. SSTY South Office Hours

Coaches Ann White and Bob White can usually be reached by phone Monday - Friday from 8:30-11:30 a.m.  You can also call us at the SSTY South office (414-897-8932).  Feel free to email us at:

Ann awhite@wsacltd.org

Bob rwhite@wsacltd.org

Emails will generally be responded to within 24 hours.

10. Team Equipment Info:

Coach Ann will have Schroeder swim caps and fins at practice.  If you need to buy one, check with her before or after practice.

11. SSTY South Lost and Found Is Now Located in Coach Ann’s Car:

When caps, goggles, suits or fins are left at any of the pools we practice at, the coaches bring them to the Greendale Pool and put them near the team bulletin board.  Since the Greendale Pool is closed for maintenance until the middle of June, we will temporarily keep items left behind in Coach Ann’s little red car.  (Key word is LITTLE, so kids, remember your stuff :)

12. Mail Checks to Matt Miller:

Please mail all checks to Matt Miller rather than give them to coaches at practice.  We’ve never lost a check yet, but practice can get a little hectic!  You can mail them to Matt at the following address:

Matt Miller, WSAC, 9240 North Green Bay Road, Brown Deer, WI 53209
