This doc is a work in progress. There are no diagrams and you must know notation to locate pieces and their movement.

EO:

The first step of Russo’s 5E is EO. This is where you orient the last 5 edges to bring the 5E algorithm total from 239 to 25. You can tell if an edge is oriented if the top or bottom color on the piece is facing the top or bottom. There are 5 “algorithms”.

DF edge oriented:

All 4 remaining edges unoriented: M’ U (or U’) M U2 M’ U2 M

2 adjacent edges unoriented (move to UB and UL): M’ U M U2 M’ U M

2 opposite edges unoriented (move to UB and UF): M’ U M U’ M’ U’ M

DF edge unoriented:

One U face edge unoriented (move to UB): M’ U M U M’ U M

3 U face edges unoriented (move to all but UB): M’ U M

PE:

This is the final step of the Russo method where you permute the last 5 edges. It is split into subsets based on the amount of pieces already solved

DF edge solved:

No other edges solved:

UF UR swapped, UB UL swapped: M2 U M2 U M’ U2 M2 U2 M’

UF UB swapped, UL UR swapped: M2 U M2 U2 M2 U M2

One other edge solved (move to UB):

UR > UF > UL: M2 U’ M U2 M’ U’ M2

UL > UF > UR: M2 U M U2 M’ U M2

DF edge unsolved:

1 U edge solved (move to UB):

UF DF swapped, UR UL swapped: M U M2 U2 M2 U M’

UF UR swapped, UL DF swapped: U' M U2 M' U M' U2 M' U' M2

UF UL swapped, UR DF swapped: U M U2 M' U' M' U2 M' U M2

2 adjacent U edges solved (UB UL):

UF > UR > DF: M U2 M U M' U2 M'

DF > UR > UF: U M U2 M U' M' U2 M'

2 opposite U edges solved (UL UR)

DF > UF > UB: U2 M’ U2 M

DF > UB > UF: M’ U2 M

No edges solved (move piece with D color to UB):

UB > DF > UR > UF > UL: U2 M U2 M' U' M2 U' M2

UB > DF > UL > UF > UR: U2 M U2 M' U M2 U M2

UB > DF > UF > UR > UL: U2 M' U2 M' U' M' U2 M U' M2

UB > DF > UF > UL > UR: U2 M’ U2 M’ U M’ U2 M U M2
