AIMS of the EFEA The EFEA is a network for those committed to share experiences in practice, research and teaching in the administration, leadership and management of education at all levels within a European context. The area of knowledge and practice is variously known as ‘educational administration’, ‘education management’ or ‘educational leadership’. Nowadays, EFEA promotes both national/regional associations and individual members.

The key character of the Forum has always been and should remain informal. The network wishes to be free from bureaucracy and the hierarchy of the official national educational systems. The EFEA therefore is organized on a very pragmatic, flexible and, above all, informal basis. This rather light structure enables it to be efficient within its limited resources.

MEMBERSHIP

The EFEA is an umbrella association for national/regional associations of researchers, teachers, leaders, managers, administrators, inspectors, advisers and governors who work within education. Different national/regional associations in the same country could belong simultaneously to EFEA. In addition, persons in countries, which have not yet established a national/regional organization, have direct access to individual membership in the European Forum.

All the members of EFEA are entitled to attend the conferences and events of the EFEA network. At present the cost of membership for members of national/regional associations varies depending on the size of the organization. Every organization pays a small set fee and then a fee for each member between 3 and 6 Euro per member. Individual members in nations with no association pay more, soon to be 15 Euro.

ACTIVITIES The EFEA facilitates: The European Intervisitation Programme (EIP): It is the ‘flagship’ or the major event of the EFEA. EIP is a four-days Conference, which includes school visits. Next EIP is going to be hold in Barcelona (24 to 27 March 2017). Trans-National Activities [Special Interest Groups]: These are of three types. Occasional workshops or conferences are held between two or three countries, these are identified as bi/tri-lateral activities. Other members of EFEA are normally welcome to attend such activities. Activities in support of the establishment of new National/Regional Associations: Members of the Executive and Steering committee of EFEA have helped individual members of EFEA establish National/Regional Associations. Networks: A major activity within the European Forum has been the informal contacts and networks established by individual members who make contacts with colleagues in order to exchange ideas and experience in areas of mutual interest. Memorandums of Understanding (MoU): The Executive Committee is developing a new line of networking for exchanging with other transnational associations in the field of Education on the basis of mutual understanding established in different Memorandums of Understanding (MoU). European Projects, Work Groups and Conferences.
