LArIAT Shift Instructions

At the end and the beginning of shift: Call the Main Control Room (MCR) (x3721)

BEFORE STARTING A RUN

It can happen at the start of the ACNET program that the last two parameters, MC7AT1 and MC7AT3, are not shown in the S60 window. If this is the case, double click at the beginning of one of the empty lines under MC-7 magnets section (there will likely be two empty lines between F:MC7AN and F:MC7SC1 - use these). A string will appear corresponding to a random parameter. Move the red cursor to the first character (if not already there), type in F:MC7AT1 (it will overwrite the previous string) and press enter. The string will turn blue and description and value of the parameter will appear on the right. Repeat on a new line for F:MC7AT3.

  1. click on ◆FTP◆;
  2. click on ◆Restore◆;

select Switchyard from the menu;

  1. select 4 MCenter Supercycle;
  2. Click anywhere inside the blue box BUT NOT over any number of variable. A new window will appear showing in real time the beam intensity (red) and the cumulative number of counts at SC1 (green) for each supercycle. In case of empty spill no green line will appear. For non-empty spill the green line will raise for the first 4 seconds (spill duration) and stay flat for the rest of the cycle.

  1. choose a new window for the next plot by clicking on *S#◆ (with # varying from A to E) at the top left of the window and selecting a window name different from the current one.
  2. click on ◆Restore◆;
  3. select Switchyard from the menu;
  4. select 6 MCenter Beam;
  5. Click anywhere inside the blue box BUT NOT over any number of variable. A new window will appear showing in real time the cumulative number of counts at SC1, SC2, SC3 and SC5. A new line is drawn for each counter at each cycle.

  1. Position the cursor in the upper left corner of the page, over the yellow character (corresponding to the ## character in the window title), type S39 and press enter. This will open the S39 Swics page.
  2. Click in the space between MC7WC1 and <I> (box #9) and  in the space between MC7WC2 and <I> (box #10). This will select the two wire chambers for the plot.
  3. Click on ◆Start Plot◆ and select from the pop-out menu Plot.
  4. Click Plot it on the new pop-out window appeared.
  5. A new window will be created showing horizontal and vertical distributions of particles crossing MC7WC1 (a wire chamber UPSTREAM the LArIAT target) and MC7WC2 (a wire chamber upstream the LArIAT target, close by both the target and MC7SC1). The histograms are refreshed after each spill and give an idea of the tuning of the beam hitting the LArIAT target.
