What can the prologue of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare tell us about the play?

Materials:

Do Now: (15 minutes)

Directions: 

Listen to the following video of the Prologue to Romeo and Juliet.

Pick up a copy of the Prologue to Romeo and Juliet worksheet from the front of the room. Complete Part I independently/collaboratively in order to see how well you understand the prologue and show that you can paraphrase a difficult text into your own words.

Start working on Part II when you are done.

Review the answers to Part II using equity sticks.

What is the setting of Romeo and Juliet?

What problem occurs between the two families?

Who are the star-crossed lovers? What do they do?

What happens to the two families?

How long is the play supposed to be?

Students who self-score below 4/6 on Part II responses or students who feel they struggled with Part I should work with Mr. Kingsland.

Students who self-score at least 5/6 on Part II may work independently/collaboratively.
