No Collar!

“Have you done the dishes?” my mum asked.

“No, not yet.” I said distracted by the TV.

“Have you been outside today?” mum asked.

“No not yet,” I told her.

“Go outside for a bit, you need some exercise!” she said loudly. She walked to the TV, turned it off and then stared at me.

“Ok,” I said.

I got up and  went outside then sat on the soft dry grass staring up at the plain blue sky.  What should I do now? I thought to myself.  After a couple of minutes I decided to go for a walk. 30 minutes later, and it was time to return home. “Woof woof” wait I think I hear something. As I walked faster the louder it became “WOOF WOOF”. I was just a few steps away from the noise, I kept walking until I was face to face with “A DOG” I shouted. The dog was barking so much it sounded like it was in pain.  It had no collar, it was dirty and I could tell it was starving.

I knocked on the door the dog was in front of to see if the dog belonged to anyone. No luck they didn’t know what I was talking about. I went back to the dog, I felt sorry for him. If only this neighbourhood had more houses but no, there was only a park and a store. “THAT’S IT!” I shouted excitedly. I had a sudden light bulb moment. I looked at the dog  “I’ll be right back,” I said patting him lightly on the head.

I ran to the store and crossed my fingers, it was open. I slowly walked up to the door where there was a poster that read “50% off comics, chips, and dog/cat food!”. I was really pleased it had said that. I carefully put my hand on the handle, as I started to open to door the handle creaked. I walked into the shop and the door slammed shut. It was dark the lights were off. Suddenly a man came out turning the lights on. He gave me a cheesy grin no really his mouth was covered in cheese! He was holding a packet of cheesy chips, “Oh I wasn’t expecting visitors!” The man yelled surprised. I replied saying “Hello, do you know where the dog food is?” he pointed to the clearance pile at the back of the room.

I quickly ran to the clearance pile and then took some money out of my pocket it was the last of my allowance money. I counted..1..2..3..4..5.. 5 dollars! I dug my hand in the clearance pile to try and find some dog food. I found a can of dog food looked at the label and said “10 DOLLARS?!?” I put it down and looked around for some cheaper food. I found a container… PERFECT! It was only $5 I took it, paid for it and left.

I went straight to the dog and fed him. After that he felt alot better. I decided to take it home then put up fliers to see if anyone would come and collect him but no one came so I decided to adopt it, of course with the permission of mum.

I named him Milo and gave him a bath. Years later he was like my best friend, we did everything together. Every night I think about how lucky I am to have met this dog and how lucky I am to have gone on that walk 3 years ago.

The End
