Citizen Schools: Select Talent Acquisition Policies

Citizen Schools understands that its organizational success is linked to the diversity of its workforce and is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in order to select and maintain the highest-performing workforce possible in service to its mission. Citizen Schools commits to a policy that ensures equal access and opportunity without regard to race, color, ethnicity, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, marital status, military status, pregnancy, or parenthood.

Disability Accommodations

In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and local regulations, Citizen Schools prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in the application process. We make every effort to provide reasonable accommodations for candidates with disabilities throughout the application process. Disclosing a disability or requesting accommodation in the will not affect a candidate’s chances for employment.

Criminal Records/Background Checks

For the safety of our students and communities, and to comply with AmeriCorps regulations, Citizen Schools reserves the right to deny employment to individuals with certain felony convictions. Citizen Schools conducts background checks for all applicants for employment. In addition, candidates for the National Teaching Fellowship must successfully complete additional background checks to begin service.

If Citizen Schools conducts a background check that reveals information that precludes an applicant from employment, the applicant will be notified of the finding and will have the opportunity to review and challenge the accuracy of the record.

Citizen Schools is happy to provide feedback to candidates who are interested in receiving it. We seek to balance this opportunity with our need to process the high volume of applications we receive for our positions. We can provide feedback to candidates who progress to the interview stage of our application process, if requested.

Social Media

Citizen Schools recognizes value in the use of social media to promote our organization and available roles within it. Citizen Schools and Talent Acquisition staff members actively engage the digital community via social media channels. However, Citizen Schools will generally not consider information about applicants that come from outside of the application process unless it raises concerns about applicant’s ability to safely serve our students and communities.

Candidates for the National Teaching Fellowship

Candidates may apply to the National Teaching Fellowship once per recruitment season. Candidates for the 2014 - 2016 National Teaching Fellowship may not re-apply at a later deadline, but may apply during the next recruitment season, beginning Fall 2014.

        Candidates for other positions

For candidates who are not selected or withdraw an application, Citizen Schools will retain all application materials on file for one year after your most recent application. While you are welcome to submit an additional application for any new role at any time, Citizen Schools may also contact you directly within a year of your application regarding another role(s) that may be a suitable match for your talents & interests. Timing of Offers and Decisions

Citizen Schools will be as transparent as possible about the timeline for any selection process and will seek to let you know as soon as possible whether you have been offered or denied a role. When you are offered a role, it is our hope that you will be able to let us know as soon as possible whether or not you accept the offer, both to help our team plan for your arrival and to be courteous to other candidates who may be offered the role if you do not accept. If you anticipate needing more than one business week to respond to an offer, please let us know as soon as possible.

Citizen Schools will honor the confidentiality of all materials submitted by candidates during the selection process. Similarly, unless notified otherwise in writing please assume that the content of interviews and job simulation activities is proprietary and meant to be kept confidential.
