QUATUOR GERTLER

(PRO MUSICA)

RUE DES GLAIEULS, 34A

Bruxelles

1st December 1932

To the honourable artist, Philip de László

London

Deeply honoured Master,

Please allow me to attach the letter of recommendation of director Dr. Béla Lázár and to attract your attention to our cause.

Our violin quartet has given concerts in numerous cities all over Europe for the last two years (in Italy, Spain, Poland, Hungary, The Netherlands, Switzerland and Belgium). Its members Endre Gertler, Dr. Gyula Baumann, László Révész, Lajos Frank are all of Hungarian nationality and we would like to make our music known in England.

Due to the present difficult economic situations, our debut in London would be, from our side, almost impossible.

We could only make ourselves known in these countries through our social contacts and

that is why we dared to think knowing that your highly honoured Master has a music salon in London – to organise our debut in London there.

We would be endlessly obliged to you highly honoured Master, if you advocate our cause just as you have advocated so many Hungarian young artists with your noble kindness and would let us play in your salon  or if this is not possible, recommend our company to your friends.

Endre Gertler, the first violinist of our quartet lives in Belgium and gives concerts as a soloist with great success for many years.

Characteristics of his artistic repertoire is that Her Majesty Elisabeth, Queen of Belgium, who herself is an excellent violinist, has hired him as her private teacher after the death of Maestro Ysaye.

The members of the quartet all of them young artists have settled in Belgium two years ago.

Please let me allow your highly honoured Master to attach the extract of our latest critic.

Looking forward to your appreciated and honourable answer, | we are sending our greetings in the name of the quarter,

Dr. Gyula Baumann
