Lafayette Theater Information Sheet

General Information

Built in 1938, Lafayette Theater is both a unique and historic choice for your event. Once a black and white movie theater, our venue has transformed into a mix of old and new in recent years. The outside boasts the original marquee and facade, while the inside has been renovated to reflect the modern tastes of today.

Market and Location

Lafayette, IN is located on I65 two hours south of Chicago and one hour north of Indianapolis. Interstate 65 connects Chicago, IL > Lafayette, IN > Indianapolis, IN > Louisville, KY > Nashville, TN > Birmingham, AL > Montgomery, AL > Mobile, AL.  With a metropolitan area population of 211,000 people and enrolment at Purdue University weighing in at 40,000 students we have a very diverse audience in town to accommodate with live entertainment. Much of the economy in the city of Lafayette and the surrounding area is centered around the academic and industrial activities of Purdue University. The university and its associated businesses employ a large portion of the Lafayette workforce. However, private industry and commerce independent of the university also exist in the community. Some notable examples include: Alcoa, Caterpillar, Wabash National, Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Toyota, Evonik, Tate & Lyle, TRW, Landis+Gyr, Cargill, GE Aviation and many smaller manufacturing centers. Unlike many college markets Lafayette is also backed by a large blue collar workforce that is here year round. The Lafayette Theater is the only motivated all ages music venue in town that actively pursues nationally touring live entertainment.

Venue Capacity

The venue has an all ages capacity of 1,150. The venue permits all ages, however, can be changed per event. Lafayette Theater prides itself on the versatility of the main floor. The lessee may choose between a variety of seating options, standing room only (810 capacity), or a combination of the two options. The main floor contains a front lobby, men and women’s’ bathroom facilities, a 21 and up bar area/all ages concessions, and a ticket booth/will call booth located right outside the main doors. The venue owns twenty-three 60” round tables along with 213 individual chairs which may be used for the main floor free of charge during the rental. Additional chairs and tables can be provided for an additional cost from a local contractor. The second floor contains an additional lobby with bar and concession area, men and women’s’ bathroom facilities, as well as 340 built in theater chairs overlooking the main floor. A projector is located on the second floor and may be used with advance notice.
